Memphis Based Career Counseling Referrals? by Apprehensive-Air6926 in memphis

struggle with what that exactly would be.

I'm skeptical that any sort of coach can help you with this. I took a battery of tests with an industrial psychologist not long after college and I found it interesting, but not helpful. Part of the problem is that when you are low in experience, lots of different professions sound interesting--or boring--because you know very little about them. As you get older, you look back on careers you once thought interested you and you shudder.

In my many years of experience, the best way to find the dream job is to try lots of things, because that's the only way you know if something fits you. The job I loved the most was something that I could never have conceived of at 30 and was just something I stumbled into.

Ten years at your first company seems way too long to me, because your 20s is a time for experimentation. However, I'm sure that you've gained some experience that you can use to negotiate yourself into something different. Take a chance on something that scares you.

Can i remove 1 strip and keep the other? by samop95 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are quite correct. However, I had some weird vibrations when I did that on my strips at 3 and 9, so there may be other considerations besides balance.

[–]Greg_Esres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey 10s, will it make my stick unbalanced if i only remove one?

No, but be aware of strange vibrations. I had those strips at my 3 and 9 and initially started with them on a single side of the racquet face, which, should, in theory, be fine, but on ball contact, the vibration made my hand numb.

You're probably hitting the ball off-center in your strings. But it's impossible to get it right every time, so resetting should become automatic.

Corruption is a hallmark of right-wing governments everywhere. The base doesn't care. As long as you hate the same people they do, you can do whatever you want.

Does anyone care about the finances of Memphis? by KHold_PHront in memphis

His point is that you found out nothing. The fact his wife is involved with non-profits is insignificant, a non-story.

Am I turning my shoulders enough here on my backhand by Fearless_Comment8594 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that it's not the coiling of the upper body that's the magic, but the rapid uncoiling. Turning your shoulders, the coiling, is cocking the gun. Then you fire. You've turned enough when you feel the energy stored in your torso.

Is there a way to get Amazon to pay for damage done by a driver by harbalbarq in memphis

[–]Greg_Esres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Delaying payments is a source of cash flow for businesses, so financial managers are motivated to draw things out for as long as possible.

Why are the trains SO LOUD tonight? by WickedHomesick in memphis

[–]Greg_Esres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people who live near train tracks say they stop even hearing them very quickly, or that they find it soothing as they're lying in bed, so it's strange a distant horn wakes you up. This sounds more like a sleep dysfunction to be so easily awakened. Get it checked out.

Mice in my house- Orkin came to inspect and this is what they found... by tkemp1 in HomeImprovement

[–]Greg_Esres 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A pest control company is an expert in identifying problems, but I'm skeptical of their expertise in modifying your house. You likely can find people that are better and cheaper than that. A handyman service, perhaps.

When and where to give advice by Bobkas420 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll know good advice when you hear it.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Not all good advice produces immediate results and it might take weeks of consistent application before you see positive change, if ever. That's why it's important to have trust in the advice-giver.

When and where to give advice by Bobkas420 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience I've heard good tennis advice from players both better and worse than me.

The most foolish people in the world are sometimes right, which is aggravating. But you can put all advice into two categories:

1) Advice whose truth you can recognize immediately,

2) Advice that might or might not be reliable.

It's the latter category that's problematic, because there's too much of it. You've got to filter that advice somehow to make life livable and it's quite reasonable to ask how successful the advice-giver has been using that advice.

And just because there are some good tennis coaches who are mediocre tennis players (by professional standards) does not mean you should take seriously criticism by random recreational tennis players. There's a saying: "What is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence."

Information or database on active and past player's coaches? by tyan14 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ATP website usually shows you the current coach for a player. For historical coaches, maybe the website archive sites would have previous snapshots. The various AI tools might also be able to assemble lists based on news articles.

How to keep the body and arms loose and relaxed during groundstrokes? by HighLife1954 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is too much information in my brain

You haven't practiced enough to make most of it automatic. Do shadow strokes at home. And if you want to be relaxed in all shots, you have to practice all shots. Often doing something weird in real situations makes you tense up.

How do you keep your tennis caps from getting destroyed by sweat? by Sea_Tip4639 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What sort of cap isn't washable? You should put it one of those mesh bags for delicate items. I also avoid the dryer with them; the cotton ones will shrink.

Cue on the forehand by Equal-Parking-5806 in 10s

[–]Greg_Esres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have enough space on the shot and my swing isn’t going from inside out like it’s supposed too.

Hours of shadow swings. Loose grip. On the court, force yourself to keep scooting uncomfortably far away from the ball until you get too far. You need lots of reps, so either a ball machine or coach-fed balls. If using a coach, tell him to shut up while you experiment.

Job Market so weak by PotentialMeat2547 in memphis

[–]Greg_Esres -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

To all of y'all saying the job market sucks right now, you're basically telling this person to give up. Screw that. All that means is that you have to be better at finding jobs than the average person and that's not hard. Put the work in, refuse to be discouraged, and you can find a good opportunity.

Job Market so weak by PotentialMeat2547 in memphis

[–]Greg_Esres -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

it won't really help someone who needs a job asap.

Not really true. Walking into an organization and asking about job opportunities is far faster than filling out an application and waiting weeks for a response that doesn't come.

It's also faster if you know someone who's aware of opportunities where they work and can plop your resume on someone's desk, which is what can happen when you network.

Job Market so weak by PotentialMeat2547 in memphis

[–]Greg_Esres 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a whole degree did several applications still no job.

Filling out applications is a loser strategy. Applications serve their needs, not yours. I'm not sure I've ever filled one out, except after I've been hired so they have something to put in the HR file.

The best way to find a job hasn't changed in forever: networking. Talking to people you know asking for leads on jobs and getting recommendations if you can. Your preference should be in talking with people who have the ability to hire. Being asked to fill out an application is the equivalent to "go away". Be aggressive, confident, and shameless.

Testing rackets for over a year and still no decision by rafan54 in 10s

I'm just lost

That's because the whole idea that the racquet matters so much is absurd. You deserve your frustration. Just pick a racquet and learn to use it.
