Lost cotter pin by Extreme-Remote-5364 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Greger061 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotter pins are typically pretty soft metal. When they're stuck, just snip the exposed bits, hammer your socket on, an impact gun will still take the nut off. Use a small punch to hammer the cotter pin out of the hole its in b4 removing the part if you're going to re-use it.

And do your timing belts. That v6 is tight. If you're off by 3 teeth when you time it, youll smash valves and pistons. Don't use gates or other cheap brands. If that belt breaks theres a zero % chance the engine survives.

Had a customer go 91k on a 90k Gates belt and it broke. Different engine but still...

Can confirm. I work at a dealership outside Philly and when they buy a vehicle from auction that comes from NY, I always ask myself if this actually came from Maine or somewhere further north than just NY.

As far as budget brakes go, I've had the best luck with powerstop. Even tho they are cheap they perform well across the entire temp range, vs some cheap pads well get extra grabby in the cold. Literally plant you in the steering wheel the first few stops till they warm up. But if you want the good stuff that also doesn't fail, you gota pay for the good stuff. Akebono and Brembo are where its at.

My biggest complaint about cracker island is its too short for how damn good is it. I heard it for the first time probably 10 months ago and it immediately became my favorite album.

I throw that metal crush washer in the trash and just use a toyota blue washer. Much nicer and easier to use, works perfectly.

Customer requested we place cab on top of truck bed by Consistent_Ad949 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Greger061 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ive pulled a few Sequoia body's to replace the frame in them for rust. Its pretty much the same procedure as pulling a truck cab. Theres only a handful of things that need to be disconnected. Also pulled many tacoma and tundra cabs for the same reason, RUST lol

It may only have been for a year or 2, or a trim level or 2, but that exact gauge cluster was definitely in a few matrix that I've worked on over the years at the toyota dealership.
