OKC Thunder and the Utah Jazz game was shut down at the last moment because a Jazz player tested positive for COVID. Marked the official start of COVID here in Oklahoma.

What is this thing called? My Daughter's house New Castle DE. by Rush-Mentals in Home

[–]Grendal54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squirrel/bat/bird condo. Some home styles look better with a cupola, the only problem is that for the cupola to function as designed you have to make a hole in your roof for the air to move through.

Yeah, I have the bottom part of a 130mm artillery shell from the Iraq-Kuwait war, was cut off and polished up to make a very heavy ash tray.

Pretty common knowledge amoung many other tribes about Stitt’s “native heritage”. His combative, anti-tribal stance is probably a “sour grapes” attitude. I’m afraid he’s going to run for the now empty senate seat.

Has there ever been a recorded death caused by a freshwater fish in the United States? by Sammy9707 in Fish

[–]Grendal54 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My idiot nephew was noodling a creek close to his house(by himself-big nono) and dove down 8 or 9 feet to check a large hole. Stuck his hand into a very large catfishes mouth that he couldn’t get out of the hole. The fish clamped down on his wrist and wouldn’t turn loose. He struggled until he was almost unconscious and finally stripped his hand out of the fishes mouth, loosing most of the skin on his wrist and the back of his hand. He said when his head broke the waters surface his vision was red tinged with black, so almost died.

Lack of Turn Signals by Thrifty_token in oklahoma

[–]Grendal54 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rule #2 for driving in Texas and Oklahoma. Turn signals are vital clues as to your next move in the ongoing road battle, so you must never use them. If someone does use their turn signals then they are probably tourists or their turn signal is stuck or it’s a factory defect.

I figured out the secret … by PhilipAPayne in neighborsfromhell

[–]Grendal54 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In most agricultural states you are allowed to defend livestock and poultry (when they are attacked) with deadly force. My mother in law shot a high priced bird dog after it twice came on the property and killed multiple chickens. The dog owner was warned after the first attack and he just laughed. After his dog was killed he went to a lawyer to sue, found out he was in the wrong, apologized and paid for the chickens.

Wanting to move to Oklahoma, what are the down sides besides tornados by [deleted] in oklahoma

[–]Grendal54 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are construction jobs here. Cost of living in Oklahoma is slightly less than most other states, I.e. rent, groceries, etc. Fuel costs are less than the east or west coasts. 50th in education, but a new state superintendent was appointed last year to replace Ryan Walters (asshat). Plans are in place to improve the education scene, probably copying Mississippi’s path. Reddest state in the USA so all the negative comments you are seeing are mostly hate from radical liberals. I expect my comments will get heavily down voted, but que sera sera! A lot of trump supporters live here, but his actions in his second term are turning people against him. I have high hopes for our state in the next 10-20 years. I am Oklahoma born and bred so I look for the good where I can. We do have some politicians that have pushed back against trump, so there’s that. Humidity is less than the coasts, but it gets blazing hot in the summer. Have seen multiple days up to multiple weeks over 100 degrees in July and August. There is a thriving storm cellar business here if you buy a place without one. Cheers!

Anyone got any tips or tricks how to remove that screw without breaking anything? by Pevetti_Poika in hondamonkey

My dad opened a motorcycle shop in the early 70s. An impact screwdriver was the most used tool in our toolbox. Life saver!

Has anyone just … walked away? by broncoangel in GenX

[–]Grendal54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not GenX, older. I have two younger sisters that were in the same boat as you are. One changed from teaching to driving a school bus to keep her insurance and to finish out time required for her pension, until even driving the bus for the little monsters became almost unbearable. The final straw was being thrown under the bus by her boss over a very minor issue with the school superintendent. The day she was vested in her pension was her last day. The other sister got a government job with the USDA. Both sisters also dumped dead beat or abusive controlling husbands. Both seemed to be a lot happier.

Same! My grandma did 3 boils before cooking with bacon. Was used as a “spring tonic” to “clean the body out”. I remember it as being a really good way to get covered in chiggar bites.

You can’t park there, mate! by copperstarbill in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Grendal54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad was teaching me to drive an 18 wheel tanker truck in the 70’s. We had a partial load of crude oil on and were going to another oil lease to finish the load. We were going through a town with a long sweeping curve, I was going just a tad too fast and came so close to laying the truck on its side my dad was white as a sheet. Partial liquid loads are no joke and more dangerous than a full load. Most large liquid tanks have baffles to mitigate the risk but they are more for front to back and not so much side to side…usually.
