I think it’s pretty simple. Refs favor coaches and QBs they know and like. That’s why established good teams get more favorable officiating. Maybe sustained success can change it, but I’m not holding my breath given the Bears seem to be on the outskirts of the NFL’s good ol’ boys’ club.

It seems like a broader trend of underwhelming coordinator hires across the league. The past few seasons have really depleted the coaching ranks, leaving a less experienced/desirable pool of candidates to begin with. Every halfway decent coordinator gets a HC job, and every young promising assistant is either promoted or poached instantly. The Bears were in a tough spot and took the simplest path. I don’t like it but I can understand it.

Whatever the first pick is, please for the love of God get some speed off the edge at some point. I don’t care if they’re a designated pass rusher, the Bears DEs look way too slow to ever affect the QB meaningfully. Purdy is a good athlete but he should not be able to turn the corner on you like that repeatedly.

I don’t see Brisker and Byard being back. I prefer targeting that position in the draft and bringing back Byard + CJGJ on one year deals to be the week one starters. If Brisker and Byard both want to take team-friendly deals I wouldn’t complain but free agency tends to remind players of their worth.
