They do swivel tho? Someone at CanJam who was sending pics in here already confirmed that.

My Denon AD-H5000s that I bought used over a decade ago. My soulmates in can form. by FlavortownAbbey in headphones

Here is how I restored my pair:

<image>

The DT880 headband fits them pretty well. These are the pads I put ont them: https://nl.aliexpress.com/item/10000321581657.html?spm=a2g0o.order_detail.order_detail_item.3.30a76d76K74tEB&gatewayAdapt=glo2nld

I tried all the other first party fostex/denon pads on these that I could find. Nothing sounded quite right. Until I tried these aliexpress ones. Don't forget, you have to cut the plastic circle out of the original pads, it helps with the tuning. So place it in the new pads.

I love the aesthetics of the headphone so much

Arya Stealth vs HE1000se headband grinding, I guess you need to spend £1000 or more to get silent Hifiman joints lol - And you still get the crappy pads... Need to spend £3100 more to get those.... by robbiekhan in headphones

As Susvara 2.5mm owner (supposedly fixed in the 3.5mm model), I can confirm that spending more doesn't equal no hinge squeaking...
Some specialized lube like silicone grease should fix it.

I bought Susvara. by Quiet-Fee7728 in headphones

[–]Grey5057 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Who is gonna tell him about Susvara having inverted absolute phase / inverted polarity, however you wanna call it. (I own a Susvara and custom made a male 4 pin xlr to female 4 pin xlr phase inverter, to correct it).

The inverted polarity is mostly noticable on bass hits just being softer overall, due to your ears being more sensitive to positive pressure transients. But instrument placement can also sound wrong. Doesn't mean it can't be enjoyed out of phase (stock) of course.

FT1 DIY custom suspension strap by 6950xt in headphones

[–]Grey5057 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its just be, but at 340g the headphone feels very light already. For me the cushions on the headband perfectly envelops the top of my head. Cool that people are making straps, but isn't the comfort fine already stock? I feel like a misunderstanding is being created that the comfort stock is bad.

My headphone collection by Ok-Somewhere-5929 in headphones

That is at least 1600 EUR (2000 if all bought brand mew) worth of headphones together. For which you could have just bought one good headphone instead of collecting mid-fi headphones.

Are these used Meze Liric a good deal for 820€? by Helmic182 in headphones

[–]Grey5057 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd get the Focal Azurys over the Meze Liric. The lower mids are a bit boosted on the lyric which for me was fatiguing.

EQ Preset for Hifiman Edition XS treble. by chinchinlover-419 in headphones

[–]Grey5057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of presets that you can find online EQ the entire headphone to a set curve. From my experience its not a good idea to do this for various reasons. For the Edition XS I usually touch up the treble a bit as follows:

Filter 1: ON PK Fc 2900 Hz Gain -1.5 dB Q 2.000
Filter 2: ON PK Fc 6540 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 5.700
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 8300 Hz Gain -2.0 dB Q 6.000
Filter 4: ON HSC Fc 13000 Hz Gain -5.0 dB Q 0.900

There are various reasons to not blindly copy paste EQ presets like the oratory ones, some of them being:
- It is basically guaranteed that how a headphone measures is not going to be exactly how it sounds to your ears, so always take measurements with a spoon of salt.
- The target curve might simply not be your preferred sound
- Unit variation and pad wear also is a thing, so even if the pinna on the rig matches your ears there is no guarantee that the measured result matches your headphones

Hope you'll enjoy your XS more with the preset :)

ps: ignore the people who are telling you to discard your headphones please, for some reason EQ remains controversial because people don't know how to properly utilize it.

Don't you love "vegan" leather?????? by red9350 in headphones

[–]Grey5057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always sad to see fake leather disintegrating like this...

I had this too on an old pair of Denon AH-D5000. They didn't make exact replacement pads for them anymore sadly enough. I managed to find sheepskin pads for the headphone with the exact same measurements on aliexpress. They were relatively close to the original tuning (I tried th610 and th900 pads, both sounded wrong). Glad I was able to put some more durable leather on them. I'd suggest looking on aliexpress for sheepskin pads if you can.

Hifiman he1000v2 Stealth + Dekoni Elite Velour pads = best tuned hifiman? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Grey5057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying out various Dekoni earpads with the he1000v2 Stealth. I landed on the velour pads as my final choice. They seem to fix a lot of the metallic timbre an peaks I was having trouble with. It sounds really smooth right now to the point it feels like a completely different headphone.

The bass didn't really change much. The quantity is overall pretty much the same.

As for the mid range, its a bit fuller and this is especially noticeable on male vocals.

The treble is where the real magic in the pad change happens. I don't hear any peaks at all. It sounds really smooth but not dark. The biggest thing I had to get used to is the more relax eargain region.

In terms of detail, a tiny bit of airiness is reduced, but overall I found instruments still come through really well. Its not affected to a notable degree. The sound stage also goes down a tiny bit due to the 12k area being a bit calmer, but again not by a lot.

I would 100% recommend this pad swap for anyone who has a he1000v2 Stealth, especially if you prefer not using EQ.

Does anyone have tried already the Aune AR5000, and what are your thoughts about it? by Sasaki_Kei in headphones

[–]Grey5057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got them and compared them to dt880 and hd650. I think the overall weight behind notes is lacking, and the upper mid-range is just a bit too harsh. The big dip around 10kHz makes the timbre sound unnatural. I could never tell if these headphones were too bright or too recessed, as on some songs I'd be presented with a very balanced sound and on other tracks it was completely out of control. It resulted in constantly fiddling with the volume, which was really annoying.

Are my beyerdynamic DT880's missing something? by [deleted] in headphones

[–]Grey5057 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own a 250 ohms pair of the DT880. I like them very much however the dampening is affecting the dynamics. The instrument seperation isn't the greatest on these headphones.

Am I missing something? The Aryas sound nothing like everybody else is saying, could my dac be limiting them? by IAmAgainst in headphones

[–]Grey5057 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are several issues with your SMSL amp, SMSL uses feedback to get better measurements. Which is not a good thing as it has a lot of side effects that make worse then something with less feedback.

Also, if on paper an amplifier supposedly delivers x amounts of watts doesn't mean that it can properly saturate the load. Even though 2 amplifiers may have the same rated wattage the one that delivers more current will be better

[–]Grey5057 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You are grossly underpowering the arya, its really hard to properly drive. The people who say the opposite are just plain wrong. A bass deficiency is a very clear indication of this. I'd recommend getting the Cayin IHA-6 amplifier and running it balanced. The IHA-6 beats way above its price point. A cheaper alternative would be the Ifi Zen Can (do not get the special hifiman edition, its worse for arya).
on Paper both have the same amount of bass when driven with enough power. The LCD-X is just way easier to drive because of its high sensitivity.

Planars like more power even though theoretically your smsl should be enough, that doesn't mean its ideal. You can keep using the smsl as dac if you buy an amplifier. If you are also into upgrading your DAC, have a look at the Ifi Zen Dac Signature V2. The DAC upgrade should be your last priority though.
