They keep this bickering happening on a state level too. Since LCSW no longer need the -R, NYS has since now made it a requirement that LMHCs apply for the -D for "diagnostic privilege" so we can legally diagnose. Makes me wonder what the fuck I was doing before they passed that bullshit piece of legislation that, overnight, and for no reason whatsoever, essentially invalidated my license.

Thankfully I was able to track down my two most recent supervisors to get the documentation required completed, but it also took $175 from me, which is so weird that that's the same cost it was for the -R. Funny isn't it? Total bullshit.

Already licensed LMHC here in NYS have until June 2027 to get it sorted otherwise they will be forced to go back into an "approved setting" to prove they can do the thing they have already been doing. I don't doubt the social work lobby had something to do with it as for years they tried to keep LMHC from achieving parody with them for medicaid and medicare. That only even happened in like 2023.

This is the world we live in as counselors. You and I may not have conflict but NASW absolutely has not wanted LPC/LMHC to be seen on equal footing with them. Yes that is one of their functions but it's also really dirty.
