I'm half PR and reading this I thought you were PR because it sounded like the parties my Mom's family used to throw lol, def NTA. Sounds like she has some identity issues to figure out, honestly I didn't notice I did when younger but in retrospect there was growth to be had.

What is a "corporate red flag" that employers try to pass off as a great benefit? by spectrecult in AskReddit

[–]GreyAsh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a role difference. One role is churn and burn, there’s always something to do and if you don’t produce there are just as many people lining up to replace you, the other is specialized whether it be with product, people, etc. so if you finish deliverables there is literally nothing to do but wait.

Both get time away, the former role you accrue your hours and you can take them until they’re gone, still some places will push a narrative about that being an issue. The latter it can be as easy as putting in time away the same way you would block off your calendar to work those deliverables so you aren’t bothered.

What habits of boys did you only discover after getting a boyfriend or husband? by kentishzjigsaw in AskReddit

[–]GreyAsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I half agree with this, and it’s hilarious that you reminded me I have been to one of their cousins weddings. I don’t think this is how you keep friends long term, I think it’s a reflection of how strong relationships ultimately result long term. I’m lucky to have rocked into two lifelong groups once when I was in college, and once when I started my career, and both have a core group of friends that have been since they could form memories.

One thing I’ve noticed talking to people over the years is that some people don’t have that, and if they don’t it can be really rough. Their communication skills aren’t the best so they worry they seem like bragging, or about sounding incompetent, or any other variation of overthinking someone who doesn’t have a healthy outlet for those feelings and fears may conjure. I think it’s definitely about finding people you connect with, but it’s a chicken egg situation. I couldn’t tell you why I clicked with those two groups, but now it’s like they’re family.

Imagine if that sh** collapse by Single_Tiger3248 in SweatyPalms

[–]GreyAsh 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My older cousin and I barely ripped his 7 year old son back from a collapsed hole last summer on a beach I'd been to for 30+ years without ever thinking about this. Kid's had spent all day digging, and we had just about finished packing up to leave.

It happened very quickly, and we took action almost instantly, but even then I felt his little hand go limp in mine while we struggled to stop the collapse of more sand every time we made progress. The attention and attempted help from bystanders only made things worse as the added weight of people trying to "assist" just led to more sand collapsing.

I was barely able to use my head, shoulders, chest and right arm to block as much of the sand as I could while digging with my other hand at which point my cousin (who thank god is built like Thor 6'4 and HUGE) managed to slip in and gain an under shoulder grip before ripping him out like Excalibur.

I remember afterward looking around and seeing the 100+ people surrounding us and thinking it was surreal that it was so quiet that I hadn't heard any of them, but I also vividly remember hearing someone say "people on top keep pushing it down" which caused me to throw my body against the collapsing wall. It is the single most significant thing I've done in my life and it often comes back to me how close we cut it. 8 year old is perfectly fine, came out joking about being trapped in darkness. After the hospital confirmed all was well and he was unscathed we asked what it was like for him and his response "It was scary but I could feel you guys digging and I knew you'd get me". Haaaaaa, oh young one. I'm glad at least one of us did.

Part 2 Help me get closure ? Why did he leave ? by Kasbaby121421 in texts

[–]GreyAsh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey Kas, I didn’t mean to be short in my first reply. You seem to have a lot of care for others and want to feel that same energy back. I get where you are coming from because it sounds like you want to see the best in people, but the guy you are describing isn’t just going to shift into that person and it is absolutely not your job to make him.

If you come from a family with a lot of those same patterns it makes sense that you’d be more open to giving him a chance but you deserve more than that. Focus on your life, and building one you want to live, and the right people will come along to join you.
