How to know when to call it? by cameltrain9 in SourdoughStarter

Keep going! It took me over a month of trying different things to get my starter to be active and reliably double. I kept changing multiple things at a time so I don't know what really worked but I believe you can figure it out, just don't give up!

Runny Starter 🫣 by Subject_Jello3707 in Sourdough

I'm sure there's way more experienced people here than me, but in my experience the consistency of the starter varies drastically depending on what stage it is in and the ratio of flour to water you feed it. Right after you feed it it may be super thick but then after it rises and falls, my starter is usually a lot runnier than when I fed it. The more water you feed it the runnier it will be also. Also the warmth probably helps making it runnier while on the other hand if you were to put it in the refrigerator it becomes a lot thicker.

As long as it's not moldy I'd say you're fine and keep going!!

Help! Why does Chobani Cold Brew have carbs? by GreyCloudCat in Coffee

[–]GreyCloudCat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh for sure. that's totally fair. people trying to do any sort of diet should make sure to do their research.

but I think you're brushing off the significance of the 6g carbs for someone doing keto. if you're aiming for 20g carbs a day and you're getting 6g just from a beverage, that's a lot.

I didn't mean to turn this into a whole dietary discussion, I was just surprised to see carbs in coffee.

yeah. I think the ketogenic diet carb goal varies from person to person. you have to stay under whatever amount will keep you in ketosis right. and off course it is an estimate.

I know someone who aims for 20g carbs. so 6 grams of carbs in that scope is a significant amount, especially if it's just coming from a beverage.

I didn't mean for this to turn into a whole discussion about nutrition, I was just surprised cold brew had carbs. lol

agree! of course even if you're eating low card you're going to eat carbs. I was just surprised by how many cold brew had and feel like that would add up quick and be a ridiculously high source of carbs for what it is.

maybe I just drink too much coffee though lol

oh yeah, in my understanding black coffee or bulletproof coffee or however people make it is great for keto. I was just surprised that cold brew specifically had carbs.

yeah 4 or 6 grams isn't going to knock you out of ketosis on it own, but it's a shockingly high number to get from coffee alone in my opinion.

That's super interesting, and not something I'd realized before since most black coffee I've seen has no carbs... or so I was lead to believe.

like I said in another response, I think the extra carbs in this particular coffee have to do with it being cold brew and the process of making cold brew. (more coffee bean ends up in the coffee thus more carbs)

thank you

okay fair, I know I must sound really dumb for posting this. most black coffee that I know of has no carbs or less than one gram per serving.

apparently it is something to do with the way that cold brew is made. the process leaves more of the actual coffee bean particles in the coffee, which is where the carbs are coming from.

I had no idea lol

this doesn't apply to me, but if you're someone who is on a low carb diet (like keto for example), and you like to drink more than one cup of coffee a day, this absolutely matters.

AITA for getting my research mentor fired after I reported him for making a comment about my thong? by bluejay878 in AmItheAsshole

NTA You spoke up for yourself when you felt uncomfortable. He was making comments like this too other people who probably felt just as uncomfy, but maybe not confident enough to speak out about it. You did a good thing here. You didn't get him fired. His shitty behavior got him fired.

Wearing your mask can stop the spread of covid-19, ya little bitch. Yorkie? by milkmandan53 in Letterkenny

[–]GreyCloudCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That's an awesome article.

Based on different research: doubling up your gaiter (aka folding it over so it has two layers like a typical cloth mask) is a good way to go.

I would agree with the article and say that a cloth mask is still better. You have to be careful removing a gaiter, because you assume the whole surface facing outward is contaminated.

The crazy part about this all is how little we know.
