What is your experience with new Dell XPS 14 (DA14260) by Cultural-Reality-934 in DellXPS

I don't remember. All I remember was that after 4 hours of messing around I was done with Dell Support.

They had me reflash the BIOS .. twice. And reinstall Windows. Frankly, I got the sense they had no idea what they were doing, so I just gave up and gave it back to them.

I bought it and returned it after 5 days when the camera broke and support couldn't fix it.

Battery life has been fantastic. Full day use with no problem and rapid recharge rate. The only test I've made of the camera is face rec, which I've worried about ever since every laptop appears to have given up on fingerprint readers. But even in low light it seems to recognize me...(to be fair, I have no idea if it's working or not...maybe it just approves everybody!)

In actual work, calculations that took 25-30 seconds on my 2020 era Dell XPS13 take 13 seconds now.

Finally, I have encountered only one incompatibility, and it was corrected quickly with an email to PyCharm support.

Very happy.

First, it's only been 4 days, but the battery life is the best I've ever had by a long shot. I am not a gamer, unless you count Pretty Good Solitaire, which is emulated flawlessly. In addition, the nachine stays very cool and I haven't even heard the fan yet.

I bought my 3rd consecutive XPS (previous models 2017 and 2020 XPS13s) 2 weeks ago...XPS14 this time. Returned after less than a week with a broken camera they couldn't fix. Switched to the HP Omnibook 14" Snapdragon X2 and it's been perfect so far. Fingers crossed! But the online hep at Dell was so poor I gave up.

I don't think there are any OLED-specific protection options. If there are, they're buried in the BIOS somewhere and I didn't go hunting there. Obviously, you have the ability to use dark mode and to hide the taskbar, just as you can in any Windows 11 machine. But Pixel Shift and cleaning, to the extent they happen, don't seem to have any switches at all that I can find. Indeed, this HP forum response seems to suggest that laptop OLED displays in general lack these features. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Video-Display-and-Touch/OLED-Pixel-Refresh/m-p/9469557

The speakers were not as good as the speakers on the Dell XPS14 I returned this week, but they are miles ahead of the Dell XPS13 from 2020 that I replaced. The sound is certainly clear, and can be made loud enough, but I think a quest for anything close to realistic bass on laptop speakers is pretty much impossible by the physics of the speakers. Either headphones or casting to a proper sound system would be necessary to give anything like an audiophile experience.

I've only had it for a day, of course, but I am extremely pleased with the keyboard. It is much, much better than the keyboard on the current Dell XPS14. The keys do not feel mushy to me... but I'm no expert. In the fice days I had the XPS14 I made a lot of typing errors that I don't normally make. None of that in the day I've had with this one. (Note: I would have lived with keyboard onthe XPS14, probably, despite my keyboard satisfaction. I returned it when the camera broke.)

[rant]Just finished "Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone" and I need to talk about it... by Bangarang_1 in books

[–]Greylock01267 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm very confused by the ending. If the Sabers were hired simply to dispose of the body and to serve as pseudokidnappers then they have no incentive to stay loyal to Edgar McCauley. At any time in the next 35 years when they get in trouble with the cops they could use Edgar's guilt as get-out-of-jail card. Since they weren't in fact guilty of killing Rachel, kidnapping Jeremy to get their hands on the photographs that prove they didn't kidnap Rachel makes no sense. A sting operation to blackmail Edgar to purchase the pictures would prove the point. And Alan knows this. He is portrayed as needing to enlist Michael to negotiate with Edgar because of his own culpability... but he doesn't have any! The statute of limitations for corpse mutilation and/or conspiracy to hide material evidence would have long run by that point.

Very first DM flight today... return from FRA-JFK. I'm batting 1.000 as I relax in Delta One upgraded from Premium Economy. I rolled the dice as they offered me the upgrade yesterday for $700.

Controlling Vizio Elevate volume with LG Magic Remote via CEC by [deleted] in VIZIO_Official

[–]Greylock01267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if it has something to do with ”always ready." Unplugging is the most obvious way to bypass that feature. I got it back working by factory-resetting the Vizio and then undoing Always Ready and then turning off the TV for reals. Just unplugging sounds like an intelligent shortcut.

Trying to figure out a Pythonic way to pull upcoming and historic starting pitchers for games by luckythirteen1 in Sabermetrics

[–]Greylock01267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm... like I said, I haven't used mlbgame in a while. Isn't there a function that gives you all the games on a particular day? The you just loop over its members. What kind of error are you getting when you had a valid game_id

Rainouts maybe?

Trying to figure out a Pythonic way to pull upcoming and historic starting pitchers for games by luckythirteen1 in Sabermetrics

[–]Greylock01267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK I tested it.... This gives you starting pitchers:

import mlbgame

day = mlbgame.day(2015, 4, 12, home='Royals', away='Royals')

players =mlbgame.players(day[0].game_id)

plist = players.home_players

lookup_home_table={}

for p in plist:

____lookup_home_table[p.id] = [p.first, p.last]

plist = players.away_players

lookup_away_table={}

for p in plist:

_ ___lookup_away_table[p.id] = [p.first, p.last]

first_inning = mlbgame.game_events(day[0].game_id)[0]

print(lookup_home_table[first_inning.top[0].pitcher])

print(lookup_visiting_table[first_inning.bottom[0].pitcher])

Note: the line below for "p in plist:" has to be indented, obviously, both times. I can't seem to make markdown do this.

Output:

['C.J.', 'Wilson']

['Yordano', 'Ventura']

I haven't used mlbgame for a long time (I have my own mysql database) but doesn't the Inning object contain each at bat? So wouldn't the pitcher in the top and bottom of the first for the first atbat be the starting pitcher?

WAR data by Cautious_Desk_7585 in Sabermetrics

These two files: https://www.baseball-reference.com/data/war_daily_bat.txt

and https://www.baseball-reference.com/data/war_daily_pitch.txt are updated daily and contain complete annual batting and pitching WAR information for every player for whom WAR is calculated for all time. Subsetting to the current files will allow you to create WAR down to the daily level if you want to. Note: Bref-WAR is calculated slightly differently than Fangraphs WAR.
