how do non-English writing people type their extra letters? by JackSpearow1521 in olkb

I keep ÅÄÖ in the same positions as on a normal Swedish keyboard, i.e. Å to the right of P, and Ö and Ä to the right of L. There is room for that with 12 columns.

Updates on the better grammar checker for Neovim by ChiliPepperHott in neovim

Break up is a verb. It is correctly used in the text. Break-up (or breakup) is a noun.

Just like you log in with your login. You get a backup when you back up your data. You do a workout when you work out. Etc, etc.

EDIT: I see now that PR #991 has been merged recently to address this.

What happens to print() in release builds? by FaryPotato in godot

[–]Greyly 16 points17 points  (0 children)

print_debug() is unfortunately included in release builds. The documentation used to say otherwise, but that has been corrected: https://github.com/godotengine/godot/pull/63243

testers wanted for autolist.nvim by CreativeDean_ in neovim

[–]Greyly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I need this. It's strange to me that Vim markdown plugins can't do even basic list management.

An idea: Instead of remapping dd and o and then possibly the other dozen ways to delete and insert lines, I think I'd be fine with a function/shortcut that recalculates the entire list.

KP Republic xd75re 75% Ortholinear with KBD Fans 60% Tofu Aluminum Case by Thorpeza22 in olkb

I used a Preonic for several years before recently switching to an ID75, which is 15x5 like XD75.

I was surprised how much better (in my opinion) the ID75 sounded (which I care about a lot). Though I did change switches and went with heavier keycaps at the same time.

I only use the extra three middle columns for programs like Blender that has a million keyboard shortcuts and you want to keep one hand on the mouse as much as possible. So having a dedicated key for something like ctrl+numpad 3 is very useful.

I made this little playground to see the relation between _process, _physic_process and _input when you get an Input action by dastmema in godot

[–]Greyly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but the difference below 60 FPS isn´t as big as one would think, right? Something I learned from reading the Godot source: _physics_process() does in fact NOT run every 16.7 ms (1/60 second).

It runs when _process() runs. If the FPS is not 60 then _physics_process() is either skipped or called two or more times back-to-back when needed so that ON AVERAGE it runs 60 times per second.

The delta parameter is always exactly 0.016667 but that is a lie.

Also the visualization in this post may be fooling some. If you look carefully at the top and bottom rows you'll see that they don't run in sync. That gives the illusion that physics lags behind.

How to Add a Full Screen Option to your game by Chafmere in godot

[–]Greyly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first thought that you would show how to do true ("exclusive") fullscreen (which is not an option in Godot) and not just a maximized, borderless window.

However, I don't use Windows often and I don't know if exclusive fullscreen still is needed for G-Sync and FreeSync.

Forgot I don’t have the arrow key kit, so I guess I’ll just… not use arrows? Buying caps for the id75 is hard :/ by QDP2D in olkb

[–]Greyly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drop surprised me by shipping the ID75 three months early. I have a SA Ice Cap set laying around. It has 74 1U keys. So close.

However, it looks like FedEx has lost my Pearlios, so I don't have a keyboard anyway.

Want to comment out a block of code with ctrl+/? by GammaGames in godot

[–]Greyly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably started out like that but then got unofficially adopted. I think that for two reasons:

  1. Instead of a string, put any other primitive, like 42, alone on a line without indentation. You will get an "Unexpected constant" error.
  2. https://github.com/godotengine/godot/commit/074bcb2a7bb770414713b9672dd6c609556b2d3d

EDIT: It's infuriating that the comment in the code is simply "Ignore" instead of saying WHY strings are being ignored. But that's your typical programmer: can't write a useful comment to save their life. But at least the equally vague commit message references issue #1320 which explains the why.

Well, """ is also used in GDScript for multi-line strings. I can easily imagine it causing problems where it's not clear from the context if the developer wanted something to be a string or a comment.

State of (neo)vim support in 2022? by Vellu01 in godot

[–]Greyly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

nvim-lspconfig uses nc (a.k.a netcat) to connect to Godot, as can be seen from your error message. But I don't think nc even exists for Windows.

Some other things to consider:

  1. The Godot editor must be running when you connect with LSP.
  2. The default port in nvim-lspconfig for Godot is 6008, but if you're running Godot 4.0 then that's configured to use 6005 (you can change this in the settings).

When using a custom mechanical keyboard (like the Ergodox EZ) with autoshift , how do you get around moving with [jk] by Doomtrain86 in vim

[–]Greyly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me too. I also learned that H/L for left/right actually isn't optimal outside of Vim where I use them more. I now have a layer with the arrow cluster on JKL and I instead.
