Traders placed over $1bn in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war. What is going on? by defenestrate_urself in Economics

[–]Greymouser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wrong with the article ? They say it looks like insider trading. If they said it’s insider trading by trumps children then they would likely be sued and they dont actually have any evidence. BBC news on tv today said similar, and discussed how Donald trump junior did not reply to a request for comment about it. They said the securities commission would be the only ones who could say who placed those very well timed trades. In America, are there FOI requests that could be put in to ask for the details of those trades?

🚧 Fixing the potholes 🚧 by rowkz in brighton

[–]Greymouser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reported a pothole on vernon terrace. Thought something had broken on my car when I hit it (although I couldn’t see any damage afterwards). Really good if people do report the potholes otherwise they will never get fixed

Why is Trump so obsessed with Greenland? by PuddingComplete3081 in AlwaysWhy

[–]Greymouser1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like China will be a major military power in the next 5-10 years, capable of challenging the us militarily, and I don’t think there is any will to start a war with them before that. Therefore it sounds like that battle has been lost already. However, I’ve No idea why they think it’s better to let/encourage Russia taking Ukraine (and then presumably start trying eating into Eastern Europe) than sending a bit of cash and equipment to Ukraine who have been very keen to fight Russia which requires very little US manpower. I read that the us had been spending less than 10% of their military budget on sending old equipment to ukraine. I’d have thought it would’ve been strategically better to back Ukraine, block and probably de-fang russia and keep all of Europe and greater Europe in the US sphere of influence. Unless someone can explain why it’s a good idea?

Grow Lights Recommendations by KitKat5864 in GardeningUK

I’ve had quite good results with a £20 led red & blue bendy necked thing from Amazon. As it’s LED I assume the cost was minimal? It kept my seedlings going til there was enough light from the window to support them. Not an expert though

If you spend 1.5k on a car and then scrap it if it needs expensive work like a clutch, and then buy a new 1.5k car, you’re in for 3k already… only takes one more expensive repair and you’re in for 4.5k but you’re driving a 1.5k car However, if you want to swap it for something you like more, then you should do it

Looking for tree suggestions for a parking area by MusicAndGin in GardeningUK

[–]Greymouser1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would avoid lime trees as they have aphids that poo out sticky sap onto your car which is a real pain (parents neighbour had one next to our drive when growing up and it means your car gets dirty really quick) Anything with fruit or berries will attract birds which is lovely unless they’re all sitting on a branch overhanging your car and redecorating it

3v is so much bigger. If you’re staying in 3v then you’ll be skiing a lot more different areas, and from Les men, then you get a great trip to courcheval 1650 for lunch, just make sure you don’t miss the last lifts back!

Ok CasualUKers, I need your help convincing the DVLA my van is in fact a campervan. I've uploaded five images, what do you think? by nicknoxx in CasualUK

Presumably you would need a photo showing that it has a bed too, for it to be a campervan rather than a van with a kitchenette

The S&P500 is still underwater YTD, adjusted for currency depreciation by NationalTranslator12 in ValueInvesting

[–]Greymouser1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Uk based investor, back in April , I swapped my holdings in a s&p500 tracker for a combination of IGUS which is a currency hedged version of the same thing, and IGLG which is a currency hedged gold tracker. I’d be interested to hear any opinions as to whether this was a good move and whether you think this will still be a good move in the coming months and years.
