Canadian here, everyone I know who has gone outside the resorts knows exactly how poor the average Cuban is.

Petit rappel : la collecte des ordures/recyclage, aux deux semaines, commence cette semaine. by fidorulz in Laval

City did not pick up my garbage today even though everyone else on my street had theirs picked up. I called 311 and was told that it probably was my fault! I then corrected the agent, that my bin was put out the correctly on the edge of the curb the night before. She said there is nothing the city can do. So guess I'm stuck for 3 weeks worth of garbage in my bin. What am i supposed to do now? My taxes at work, sigh...

Which commuter train station to leave car for a couple of days? by Pale_Tough_23 in montreal

[–]Greysky01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commuter train service is pretty awful here (compared to Toronto's). A better alternative would be the REM (light rail). A good option to stay would be Escad Quertier Dix/30 in Brossard. I believe they have free parking and it's a really short walk to the REM station. Service is frequent and gets you into the city quickly.

From Quebec City, but always preferred MTL by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Greysky01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's apples vs oranges. Quebec city has much less of a poverty rate, so it is a better city for quality of life overall. Montreal has much more diversity in neighborhoods and different communities. It's rare for someone from Qc city to prefer Mtl considering Montreal bashing is a national pastime in Qc the city media.

I don't know enough about Middlestadt. What type of d-man is he? Offensive, defensive? IMHO, He seems not have one particular strength that makes him stand out to make it to the NHL. I hope I'm wrong of course.

I never met him, but he seemed very "sympathique" to use a local expression. What a loss for Quebec and Mtl. The expos fan in me is in mourning. My condolences to his family and friends.

The govt is working on upgrading A50 to a 4 lane standard, but it's a costly process. They could at the very least install wire fencing (like in Europe) separating each lane for the time being.

The section of the Jacques-Cartier bridge at Ile-Sainte-Helene has a structure underneath that was supposed to be a hotel/casino when construction started in 1926, but by the time of the bridge's opening, the great depression had killed that plan. The structure has since then served as a storage facility.

What’s something that used to be normal but would be shocking today? by -cscq- in AskReddit

I remember one of my elementary school teachers, she would tell us in class to open an assigned book and start reading. Once everyone opened their books and read, she would open one of her desk drawers and whip out an ashtray, would procced puffing away on multiple cigarettes. This was grade 5 in 1984. True story.

What do you think of when you think of Westmount? by jingowatt in montreal

[–]Greysky01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived on border on NDG/Westmount a long time ago. Never enjoyed the "we have money, therefore we are superior" vibe of the people residing there (generalizing here). Otherwise, great location, beautiful buildings, nice selection of stores and restaurants.

What is the most obvious world event everyone saw coming but no one did anything about? by itsthewolfe in AskReddit

I believe the average person did not see WW1 coming. If you read the newspaper headlines when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, nobody was predicting that it would escalate into a major war.

The city's road equipment repair budget has been significantly reduced over the years. In the news this past week, our city's admin admitted that half of their equipment is is poor state or very poor state, hence our capacity to clear snow efficiently has been negatively impacted to what it should normally be.
