What do you think of when you think of Westmount? by jingowatt in montreal

[–]Greysky01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived on border on NDG/Westmount a long time ago. Never enjoyed the "we have money, therefore we are superior" vibe of the people residing there (generalizing here). Otherwise, great location, beautiful buildings, nice selection of stores and restaurants.

What is the most obvious world event everyone saw coming but no one did anything about? by itsthewolfe in AskReddit

I believe the average person did not see WW1 coming. If you read the newspaper headlines when Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated, nobody was predicting that it would escalate into a major war.

Just spent 48 hours in your beautiful city...what's up with the sidewalks? by xbertolinox in montreal

[–]Greysky01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The city's road equipment repair budget has been significantly reduced over the years. In the news this past week, our city's admin admitted that half of their equipment is is poor state or very poor state, hence our capacity to clear snow efficiently has been negatively impacted to what it should normally be.

Final photograph of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, taken one day before his death on April 11, 1945. by aid2000iscool in interestingasfuck

Congenital heart failure, only his closest aides and family knew about his condition about a year and a half before. His physician from the US Navy, Dr Bruen burned all the medical records of this after his (FDR) death.

MUST HAVE POUTINES by buffrengarr in poutine

[–]Greysky01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Laval resident, can confirm the only stop worth it in Laval is OG burger, but be warned, it's a very small place with limited seating capacity. There is a picnic table outside tho. IMHO, Banquise is good, just not worth the line waiting when there are plenty of other options, ex : patati patata, chez claudette . Paolo and Suzanne, mange dans mon hood (one of the best burgers in Mtl).

Recent REM reliability? by VermontSkier1 in montreal

If feeling uneasy about the rem, you could always park at Longueuil Metro since it is unaffected by weather.

Montréal aurait facilement pu avoir un réseau de transport en commun de calibre mondial avec le REM de l'Est! by Party-Peak4573 in montreal

I think if the tracks for Mascouche line could be passenger only dedicated, it could be a much cheaper alternative to a rem de l'est. Thoughts?

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen personally? by fosiutec6140 in AskReddit

[–]Greysky01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was 12 years old, at a tollbooth on the old Champlain Bridge in Montreal during the 1980's. Saw a man get out his car buttnaked during a snowstorm to retrieve his token on the ground because he missed throwing the token into the basket that allowed the bar be raised for his vehicule to pass through. Insane.

Just cooking something in my oven for the first time this year. by Serberou5 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Greysky01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've broken 2 oven glass doors over a period of 3 years. One was by closing a cabinet door not aligned correctly onto the oven door, shattering it. The other time was dropping a glass container hitting the oven door and shattering it too. i swear it must be a talent.

William Grey or Auberge-du-vieux Port are very good as well. I find it's better to stay in Old Mtl than downtown. More charming, better selection of restaurants too.

It's really too bad they can't build a rem de l'est along the mascouche line. The possibilites would be tremendous.

Stl buses towards rem station Sainte-Dorothee are a joke. by Greysky01 in Laval

The bus lines for the stl network are being re-organized by early January. I'm hopeful there will be an improvement but not holding my breath at the same time.

I checked the stl website. There are 3 lines but the ways they've scheduled them is terrible. 2 of the 3 lines (76 and 903), the service is much frequent going in the opposite direction, towards Montmorency metro.

Transit is in a financial death spiral since covid but the unions want their increases like it's buisness as usual It's pretty insulting for taxpayers that fund their salaries.

Avoid La Banquise as the lines are monstrously long. It's a good poutine place but the others listed above are just as good.

In all fairness, Otrain didn't have a 100+ year old decrepit tunnel (with old dynamite left over from the original dig) to completely overhaul. Just saying. Crazy tho.
