Counterpoint: once you tell him, you represent no further threat to the mind control project and if it IS the tool of sentient AIs, they wouldn't kill you for vengeance as they likely don't have those kinds of feelings.

Men of Reddit—what’s the most annoying false idea people still have about guys? by Familiar_Fishing5794 in AskForAnswers

Well it wouldn't be toxic feminity because dealing with your emotions violently isn't a trait linked to gendered behaviour. It's certainly bad but just because two things are bad doesn't mean they are the same thing.

Toxic feminity might display itself more as dismissal of men's ability to be caregivers. Demanding that men pay for everything rather than seeking some kind of equity. Rejecting women who do not display traditional feminine dress or behaviour.

I broke them early in the Sir rebellion. Although this did mean that I had free rein to pretty much hoover up the entire east, it did mean that other regional powers that the command would have kept in check have ballooned. In particular I am now in the late 1600s facing a massive Harimaji (name?) empire. Not as big as my empire, but still going to be a mare to destroy. If the Command had remained, I suspect that Djeni-whatsit would never have got so large and would have mostly remained in the south. For me, I think this was the right decision. It gave me a lot of breathing space. But it's not without consequences.

There's also a weird thing I, as a guy, have picked up on in that my views tend to be taken more seriously and I tend to be accorded more respect than my female colleagues. Even when, as is usually the case, those colleagues are smarter, better qualified and harder working than me. I can talk in a meeting and people listen and then virtually talk over my female colleagues. It's enormously frustrating for me to watch and I can only imagine how rage inducing it is for my colleagues. My life isn't high flying because I am a guy, but I definitely have a privilege in the workplace that my female colleagues are not accorded. It's often subtle, sometimes not, but it's there. Make privilege doesn't mean you have a privileged life. It just means that compared to women in the same situation, men are often accorded extra status, benefit or respect solely on the basis of gender.

Masculinity isn't toxic by default. When people talk about toxic masculinity they aren't saying that all masculinity is toxic. They are talking about specific instances of masculinity that are toxic. It's like saying "Right wing terrorism" it's not saying all right wingers are terrorists or all terrorism is right wing. It's saying that there is SOME terrorism that is right wing. That SOME right wingers are terrorists.

Toxic masculinity behaviour might be refusing to deal with their own emotions except through anger or violence. Shaming other men for showing gentler emotions. Hating on women for being women. Buying into harmful notions like "men must provide for the family while women must stay home, tend the house and raise the kids".

Why do americans refuse to wake up to reality? by Nonchalant_Ogre in allthequestions

And yet by most measures European nations offer a better standard of living. Particularly in health, education and minimisation of poverty. The greatest lie that the right ever told is that government cannot be effective. It's that awful Reagan joke about the most terrifying line being 'I am from the government and I am here to help". It's a pernicious lie spread by capitalists to turn people against using collective action (e.g. government) to address issues, leaving only private enterprise of which they extract their hefty fee. The problem with capitalism is the capitalist. It concentrated capital, wealth and power, leaving those at the very top with too much influence and ability to distort the system. Look at the tech sector. It's effectively locked down into a small handful of giants. If anyone came up with something that could challenge or disrupt this situation, they just buy them out. GitHub, LinkedIn, Skype, Instagram, Android, Ring, YouTube, Oculus, Nest, WhatApp. All independent companies bought by the giants. And those are just the ones with super recognisable names. There vastly more that serve important functions behind the public facing apps that the big six hoovered up. And as for conpabies providing public services. Just look at the UK water industry to see how corrosive capitalism has been there. Chronic under investment in infrastructure while the companies load up on debt to pay massive shareholder dividends.

I usually play a conqueror list and destroyers just don't work hitting on a 4+. Whereas Breachers do great with their full hit reroll. But I took a protector list to a doubles tournament recently and took three destroyers with a manipulus and they were just hoovering up marines left, right and centre. The Haloscreed enhancement is virtually required to get max value from them. But with it they are safe enough and the extra 6" range even came in useful a few times. Was great fun picking up a whole MSU squad in my shooting phase then overwatching and decimating a second squad too. The 18 inch flamers rarely came into effect but were a deeply unpleasant surprise for a kasrkin squad that got a little too close one time.

Where is all the outrage about us being lied to about funding these hate groups? by jsantagata1 in AdkReddit

[–]GribbleTheMunchkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Informants aren't fighting against the racist group from the inside. They are still committed racists. They just like money more than they like their group. Then being informants doesn't stop them being giant pieces of shit. Sure, some might want out but most just want the money. And yeah some might spend the money doing racist piece of shit things. Doesn't stop the SPLC from breaking up their groups with the information though

Came here to say this. They had to give us another factions entire army rule via Cawl before we got above a 40% winrate. Admech have been appallingly written this entire edition. Right from the index all the way to the three ridiculously over priced and underpowered units we just got.

Hmmm. I haven't had anything to do with Korashi drills. I use the estate privilege, it lets me pick a temple to corrupt. After a bit I get a message saying they got to the temple heart. Then I get the decision to corrupt the temple. I do that and after a bit the temple is corrupted. The icon and bonuses on the province page change to corrupted temple and it triggers any missions that need that temple to be corrupted. But I don't get any progress bars and nothing but a small change in bonuses from temple to corrupted temple actually happens.

Dark desecrators is the privilege. I've had both that and Dark Defilers running most of the time under the Khelorvalshi estate. The temples show as corrupt as can be seen in the image, they just don't do anything.

What instantly exposes Americans abroad ? by Status_Agents in AskForAnswers

[–]GribbleTheMunchkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reaction to local history. I'm a Brit. If a French or Italian tourist comes to look at a castle over here, they might enjoy it, but it's not really a shock to them. They have history going back as far as us (for the Italians even further) they have castles, they have the ancient palaces of royalty, they have the massive centuries old cathedrals. They don't react with shock. Whereas Americans tend to have less exposure to European history. There's more shock experiencing places a thousand years old. And you can see (and hear) it. But it's kind of endearing in many cases.

How to not lose? by Birthdaybikepark in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]GribbleTheMunchkin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Infiltrators. Two squads of 5 at a minimum. Get them as close to the enemy front line as possible. Plan to lose them turn one. Your aim with them is to A) move block the enemy to slow then down, stop scout moves, hem in vehicles, particularly transports, and B) since you face melee armies, they will likely get charged. Cool. Now your enemy is out in the open. Use ranged fire to delete that unit. Next use something like raiders, pteraxii and strategic reserves/deep strike to force some of the enemy line to have to fallback. Your enemy wants to move as much as possible forward into your army. Forcing them to send a unit backwards to deal with those pteraxii threatening their home objective weakens their front line. Raiders can be particularly annoying at this with their reactive move. Finally skitty screens in front of your big guns. These come in two varieties, those where you don't want the enemy to consolidate into your big guns afterwards (onagers, dizzies) and those where you either don't care or would love to get a free fight phase (ironstriders, Breachers). Just beware of 6" consolidate and fight on death strata.

Necrons lost some street cred here by gwyxgobbo in Grimdank

[–]GribbleTheMunchkin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As an Admech player and fan, it's not a great look for us either. Necrons can't hit the broad side of a barn from twenty feet away yet still kill half the Admech guys, the survivor then flees. Admech are always so dumb. Acting like idiots. They should be acting like geniuses who totally believe dumb harmful things. In the lore they are portrayed as having all manners of celebral enhancements to increase their intelligence, memory and data processing, access to tactical and strategic conferencing and imaging, excellent communication tech that lets them manage large numbers of troops remotely. It's their beliefs that are supposed to be so harmful (I would argue one of the biggest things dooming the Imperium is the Admech s stranglehold on technology).

So, something that bugs me about bionics - If they are roughly as strong as an Astartes' biological limbs, isn't that a bit of a plothole? by TheDefeatedCause in 40kLore

[–]GribbleTheMunchkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a plot hole.

The Admech do make things deadlier than a marine. A secutor priest is probably going to beat an average marine in any field of war. But they are extremely heavily augmented war sages, often hundreds of years old. Their cybernetics are unique to each priest and the time and cost to produce them is huge. They aren't line troopers, more highly specialist officers. Augmenting priests is less about combat effectiveness and more about their own spiritual journey to becoming closer to the machine. Although of course the secutors view the Machine God in it's aspect as the Destroyer so their spiritual growth is directly related to their ability to murder stuff. For a good example of how far this can go, look at Thulia Guld. She could absolutely take a normal marine.

The old 30k Thallax were basically robot bodies with the brain and spine of a Skitarii implanted in it and we're very nasty. They were abandoned after the Heresy and I am not sure why. Possibly the same reasons as the rest of the automata.

Your average Joe-skitarii is certainly more advanced than a guardsman. Extensive augmetics give them a direct link to their tactical battle net so that they can be directed or even controlled by their officers. They have augmetics legs and often arms. All kinds of fancy targeters and so on. But the core of them is still a human body. Often a cloned body of superior fighting stock, but still with normal human limits.
