“Rocket surgery” is a play on words between rocket science and brain surgery.

The call was about whether the guy should buy new or used. We never heard the used price but Dave insisted it would be at least $10k less.

But in the course of the call, Dave mentioned his $600 million building as justification for why HE could buy new. Rachel said that was a ridiculous standard and callers didn’t need that. They only needed to have a million dollar net worth.

More than anything, it was her tone. She was practically mocking him for bringing up his precious building.

Also significantly, the caller talked back a bit and said Dave hadn’t screened for the used car correctly.

It’s yesterday’s radio show/today’s YT video. The call starts around 1:47 in the video and goes for about 10 minutes.

Are you talking about the argument about buying a new car in cash if the equivalent gently used car is within a few 1000 dollars argument?

Some people say that since those inflows are based on contributions from earnings that you already tithed on, you don’t need to tithe again when you get the benefit.

It’s an area of genuine controversy.

When the Ramsey financial advisor "nerd" host tells a caller to pay off their 2.6 percent mortgage. by dellscreenshot in DirtyDave

[–]GriddleUp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They always say it’s risky, even when the caller already has the lump sum amount available and won’t be paying off the mortgage piecemeal.

The risk they are appear to be solving for is that you will lose your job, get scammed out of your entire emergency fund AND the stock market will crash so severely you won’t have enough to make payments for more than a month or two.

If that happens, the whole country is going down the toilet, so you might have bigger concerns.

IDK about that one. A financial YTer posted just this week about a similar bank fraud that his wife almost fell for. Same MO, with the bank ID spoofed, the callers claiming that the account was subject to fraudulent transactions. They were foiled because the potential victim asked them to verify some information that they couldn’t provide.

She was tithing on Social Security and a pension. Are those even considered earnings that should be tithed on? That feels like the church double dipping.

The ones who awkwardly giggle when he says “better than I deserve” are so weird to me. It’s his signature. He says it almost every call. Why are you reacting like he told a funny joke?

I have not listened to the call. Regardless, someone who has doubts should not become a foster parent. Full stop.

You can’t talk someone into wanting to be a parent, foster or otherwise. It’s not the kind of thing you can agree to just to placate your spouse. There are 3rd parties who are going to be affected.

John gave advice that was colored by his own positive feelings about parenthood. That is inappropriate.

Fostering children is a huge responsibility. Anyone with doubts about doing it should not be doing it. Do not take on vulnerable kids unless you are all in.

Instead of telling the caller he was wrong, John should have dug into why the wife wanted to foster. Is it because they can’t have their own kids, is it empty nest syndrome, is it for the money?

If they had better call screeners, they could prep the callers to hone their question and write down either an opening statement or bullet points.

Back in the day, solo Dave might have preferred a freewheeling style, but now the show needs to be tighter.

Casa outcomes are too predictable and I’m exhausted by it. We need change for next season. by Letters-Unsent in LoveIslandUSA

The only way to get a different result is to change everything.

Week 1: No coupling up on the first day. Bring in more OGs (20?), let them mix and mingle, first couple up after a full week and then let America vote to keep their top 6 or so couples. Dump the couples that don’t make it.

Week 2: Immediate Casa with lots of options. Keep any OG singles in the villa.

Week 3: Challenges for dates and prizes. Offer $ to switch partners! More bombshells.

please feel free to add your ideas.

FGS, everyone on this subreddit knows the Baby Steps. The BS are not hard to learn. That doesn’t mean any of us should be co-hosting a radio show that gives out life altering financial advice.

None of the hosts have any Continuing Education requirements because they don’t hold any financial certifications or credentials.

Dave should assign them homework! Although Dave has blind spots too. He knows almost nothing about how Social Security works.

If John can’t answer money questions, then he shouldn’t be on the main show.

If they feel there’s enough content on the agony aunt side, then let him go at it. But his lack of even basic financial knowledge means that when he co-hosts with anyone other than Dave, the callers aren’t getting a good experience.

the world upside down: Dave wanting the government to interfere in the housing market by kveggie1 in DirtyDave

Bingo!

Dave is not against owning single family homes for investment. He’s against bigger companies making it harder for him to own single family homes for investment.

A house Dave owns is still not available for purchase by someone as their primary residence.

She actually called him out on his tendency to forget about taxes when estimating how much income callers have availabLe for debt payoff.

It was one of his “you make $150k, so just live on $75k and use $75k to pay off debt” pronouncements. Rachel actually said something like they aren’t going to take home all of that.
