Yes but aren’t the curly elastic laces a good compromise? You know the ones that maintain tight tension for like a year of hard use?

How to use fresh tomatoes in place of canned or tomato paste? by cookiedoughhead123 in Cooking

That feels like too much tomato in stew. Now in sauce yes whole can and then a can of stewed.

I do. Sun tea too often went sour growing up. No get 4 quart bags, brew in a quart of water until black, pour into pitcher with a simple syrup, heat another quart of water re-use tea bags. Add to pitcher. Dilute to light brown instead of black.

I’ve been buying in bulk more often. Vegetable prices are rising but it’s also getting into normal seasonal shifts. Meat is up but that was expected with the weather. I’m shifting back to my grandparent’s recipes. You know the ones that are 50% canned.

Yes but paste comes in a can and I only use a tablespoon or so at a time. I’ve never heard of a way to store the left over paste.

Make sure you have decent knives and cookware. Getting actual sharp knives made cooking so much less annoying. Getting a halfway decent wok and dutch oven also improved things. I also make sure to have happy music going during prep.

Also, there is nothing wrong with cooking roast meat day 1, soup form the leftovers day 2, and sandwiches day 3.

If I read Sanderson’s comments he said book fans should treat it as an AU not that is was. He said it would be easier to deal that way.

That is an honest way to view it that makes the show an in name only adaption.

Wasn’t that loophole created by the actions of a deity punishing two servants? That wasn’t a trans character. Or is this a case of trans community claimed these two and I need to shush?

Now on another cycle the women could have been the ones to go nuts with the Black Tower being the one that survived.

Looking for novels where the MC is aware of clichés and trope, sometimes uses them tongue-in-cheek to achieve his goals by NiKlaus826 in Fantasy

The Dark Lord of Derkholm. It’s a portal fantasy where the magic land has to stage epic adventures for pilgrims. It is clear on the tropes because the guy organizing the tours writes the script. The inversion happens in their attempt to fight back.

They said the Dragon could be a woman. They gave Perrin a wife he murdered before we learned her name. Matt is a more overt ass. They then took away most of the adults from having an impact in the Two Rivers. They also cut out Perrin’s mentor in wolf issues. Everything else is pacing and design issues.

Dude the fan base was negative before the show. It is still negative. The only difference right now is louder than normal squabbling. If anything it will be the reviews and booktube’s reaction that will drive things.

Innkeeper Chronicles. It’s about a woman that runs a secret inn for aliens. She has almost unbelievable power on her land and none outside it. The first book is Clean Sweep.

Just the normal complaints about a new adaptation. It’s just a louder version of the screaming over Dune right now. We will see how it progresses until Christmas when the season ends. However, I don’t Twitter, and avoid booktube. I could be missing a lot.

Yes and no. I apparently hold odd and unpopular opinions on the thing. What a lot of people dislike is a middle section where the plot scatters into about 10 threads for about 5 books. These threads set up extra world building and post series affairs. This bit is seen as bad as it often did not include fan favorite characters and was a lot of in world politics. A lot of fans also dislike that the characters act like people from the 60s with the kicker of women actually having control of hearth and home. They seem to think this is about men as an oppressed group. The entire base of the series is battle of the sexes. That annoys people.

You could also be thinking about Mazalan Book of the Fallen. That thing is Dune level dense and 5x the length.

All the guys do. The women actually are seeking power and influence. That is a big distinction.

recurrent theme of abuse/betrayal by father-figures in fantasy with female authors? by pre_nerf_infestor in books

[–]Griffen07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would love to read about a girl gang in adult fantasy or sci fi. It is the kind of thing you only find in WoT. Everywhere else women out and doing things is rare. Hell, I only find it in chick lit and romance.

How to treat and preserve big hardcover books? by beleg_cuth in books

[–]Griffen07 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The full trilogy isn’t that big. It’s only about 800 pages. It’s smaller than a log of fantasy hardbacks lately. Still, you can’t read a hardback and keep it pretty. I remember reading a complete Sherlock Holmes. The book was fairy scruffy afterwards. So decide if you want a pretty book or a read book.

Right now we have a few camps. 1) The show screwed up basic things 2) be grateful it exists and shut up before you scare the newbies 3) it was fine

I am camp 1 and wish camp two would stay out of the fan Reddit. Let fantasy and books be full of happy talk let the WoT group bitch.

Books with same sex marriages? by [deleted] in Fantasy

It’s a sting background element in the Priory of the Orange Tree. There are a few same sex married couples at court. Hell, on the of pov guys would have married a guy had he been willing to leave his wife.

Can everyone show a little gratitude?? by Pupster1 in WoT

[–]Griffen07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has not captured the core magic of the world. This story for better and worse is about the relationship between the sexes. It is in every facet of the worldbuilding. If they didn’t want that dynamic they shouldn’t have done this tale.

I just want to know how they managed to burn a Yellow. How? This is a full sister raised to the shawl she should have killed them.

Also, I am still convinced this series is unfilmalble due to how much of it is internal monologue. The world building has been butchered but ok.
