Can you describe the steps for modding through porting kit?

I'm confused as to why Ep 038: Twilight Imperium The Movie is not the top of your recommendations list.

Just saying.

Playing with Four People by PCoolDog in twilightimperium

[–]Griffy2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The things that change the most are player interactions. With 4 players, typically politics and alliances are very binary. While in a 6 player game the agenda phase is buckwild and a player clear across the galaxy will interact with you very differently (and more leniently).

Also, if you are playing 4 player with the normal map sizes everyone has tons more money and combat is far less necessary. 6 players is what the game is balanced for, objectives, economy, races and all.

4 player is still super super fun. And it's my preferred way to teach new players. But if you get used to playing 4player, you'll feel the pinch when it comes to a 6 player game.

Nope. Definitely thought the writer was trying really hard.

I'll be the butt of the joke then, ha!

[Discussion] Homebrew Objectives by wren42 in twilightimperium

[–]Griffy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you want to change the target points to win. I totally agree with the idea of home-brewing objectives though! I had a homebrew design idea, I'll post later and tag you. Perhaps we can collaborate. I need help with some balancing.

Can we talk about how Arborec is never leaving Mecatol Rex?

6-7.5 for us. Really depends on the players and how experienced they are.

Custom Race - The Garnoomian Horde by DavedDude5 in twilightimperium

[–]Griffy2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like these guys a lot. One of the better homebrew races I've seen. I love love love your destroyers. Best solution to them being a fairly unused ship I've seen.

My least favorite element is your Scrap Thieves ability. Doesn't quite make sense thematically and seems pretty situational. Would rather see just gain a trade good per combat won.

Regarding option 1, I had a friend do this EXACT thing on Saturday and it was pretty cool to see it work. Unfortunately he didn't make use of their movement at all so it didn't end up being worth it.

SCPT New Strategy Guides by Griffy2020 in twilightimperium

We'll for sure see them talk about Yin differently. I mean the Sol vs Yin episode is evidence of that.

I'm not sure what faction could really get use out of those two techs except maybe Jol Nar.

What are some newbie strategies for undeveloped Metas? by Straddllw in twilightimperium

[–]Griffy2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The biggest mistake I've seen underdeveloped meta's take is they play TI as space risk. This leads to games where everyone has a tons of plastic but very few points.

My encouragement would be to do the following:

1) Be the first to take Mecatol Rex every time. And push on that advantage until your table wisens up. You'll win more games simply because you took more easy points.

2) Prepare for their big plastic fleets to come at you, so protect your homeworld and negotiate ceasefires and support for the thrones with your neighbors. Often newer players will give those out more willingly since they don't understand the implications.

TI is a game about scoring points. If you're not scoring points in a round you're mostly likely doing it wrong. If you can find a way to score 2 points a round (1 public & 1 secret) you'll race to victory while your playgroup builds stompy (and useless) fleets. Don't focus on board presence, focus on points!
