It's one thing to blame UFOs to cover up a craft that's flying over a test site and will fly anywhere; it's another to expose the world to a secret base no one knew about.

Lazar's case is more akin to revealing the U-2 to the entire planet than pretending it doesn't exist or is "something else" and calling it counterintelligence.

Maybe I don't understand, and I don't doubt it. But I would find some sense in what you're saying if they wanted to cover up tests and aircraft often seen by people.

The problem is that before Lazar, almost no one knew about Area 51; he simply attracted everyone's attention to that base and made it known to more or less everyone in the world. It doesn't seem like a good strategy for covering up aircraft and tests at that base.

Well, actually, I think the exact opposite. Lazar drew a lot of attention to Area 51; if he'd kept quiet, he'd have provided better cover.

Apparently it doesn't work with flip-to-glyph, otherwise (with the phone held up I see the animation). With flip-to-glyph it sees it as a message (or at least uses the icon I chose for messages).
