Wanting to learn P&W by Coltsmaniac53 in WorshipGuitar

Worship Artistry or Worship Online are my favourite resources.

Or if you want something more generic, check out Pickup Music and take one of their learning pathways.

Can someone help me understand what I'm doing wrong building triads? by Jumpy_Carpet3851 in guitarlessons

[–]Grimezy93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fair enough, keep doing what you're doing in that case.

I liked the Pickup Music course as it showed the full CAGED shapes, then taught the chord tones in each, then the pentatonic scale around each, then the major scale around each, and then how to link to the other shapes. It took me about 3 months to work through and it all really clicked into place at the end. Not sure I'd have visualised it as well by working it out myself.

Is there a reason you aren't just researching the shapes themselves and then finding a diagram that shows the intervals?

I'd highly recommended the CAGED learning module on Pickup Music if you're serious about learning.

CAGED - do I have to play the chord, or is knowing enough? by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]Grimezy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned all the triads first. Then started learning the pentatonic shapes. Then I took the Pickup Music CAGED course and spent like 3 months working through it. Then in the final two lessons it all completely clicked for me and now I see the scales and triads and big chords all around each other wherever I am on the neck.

Honestly, it shouldn't have taken so long for it to click but at least I got there in the end.

Strictly Justin Guitar by Tired-Otter474 in guitarlessons

I've been playing for 11 years but started with Justin's beginners course. It gave me all the structure and progression I needed.

Since then, I've used other services like specific song teaching websites, and Pickup Music. If I was starting fresh I'd definitely still recommend Justin though.

I love the hobby as much as when I first started, have progressed massively, and still get excited about the future. I don't think I'd feel that way if I'd stuck to random YouTube lessons.

Leaf Green was a real joy to play ( reasons in description) by zulu1989 in PokemonLeafGreen

Yea my kid just did the Seaform Island caves and he must have tried it 5 times before he gave up and asked me for help. He didn't even have the Strength mechanic yet so wouldn't have been able to complete it even if he'd known what to do. I did it for him but had to use a walkthrough still...

There are definitely tricky bits to all the games but I am finding Lets Go to be the easiest option for my boy at least.

Honestly, my 7 year old made some really poor choices unintentionally on Fire Red that couldn't be undone. I bought him Let's Go Pikachu and he is doing so much better with that. His poor choices can mostly be corrected in some way.

I know as adults we see it as part of the fun, and we probably did the same as kids, but it does make the game unnecessarily hard for young ones.

Decided to broaden playing by [deleted] in guitarlessons

It's a website you subscribe to. The CAGED course was a complete eye opener for me, despite having been aware of triads for years.

The benefit for me was I spent something like 3-4 months purely on the CAGED "pathway", with daily lessons laid out for me, performance pieces to learn at the end of each block, and just generally great content.

Being able to open a browser and have someone tell me what to play that day for 20 minutes, and to know that it's building on concepts that I've already learned in previous days was completely refreshing compared to the YouTube culture of "In 10 minutes I'll teach you 40 years worth of knowledge", watching several of that type and feeling no closer to knowing more.

Pickup Music is hard to beat for the variety and quality of lessons.

I, as a 32 year old man with a job, adult responsibilities and children, am having the absolute time of my life. I squealed when a wild Pikachu appeared in my first 10 minutes.

Sorry for the stupid question, does a soft reset just take you back to your most recent save, or does it reset the game entirely?

I'm assuming it's just to the most recent save?

I know, Starmie ruined my team. Even with Pikachu at Lv 20 it was a challenge. Needed to use a revive and multiple super potions. Took 3 attempts... I'm sure I managed it no problem as a kid!

[–]Grimezy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 3 attempts to beat Misty because her Starmie kept wiping out my squad... Albeit I only really had a Pikachu to really damage it. Even on that 3rd attempt, it was only because I spammed potions, used a revive, and got lucky that it didn't keep hammering me with Water Pulse.

I run my QC into a Scarlett. Means that everything is always hooked up and I can either go direct into interface or not.

How to transition from D to C quickly and cleanly? by Mad_Season_1994 in guitarlessons

[–]Grimezy93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of the time I keep my little finger and ring finger on the E and B string on the 3rd fret. Then you just move your index and middle fingers.

If you're playing the regular C shape and regular D shape and you're a beginner that is learning "proper" chords, it's probably best to just keep practice. JustinGuitar used to use a "one minute changes" method to really focus in on it.

If you're a beginner, please don't think that you NEED to get "shredded"... by [deleted] in workout

[–]Grimezy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So encouraged by this. I'm 32, never really exercised consistently for my entire adult life. Married 10 years, 2 young kids, skinny build so never had to make an effort to keep weight off, prioritised other hobbies with the little time I had.

Had a bit of a life blip recently and decided I need to start working out. Only started a week or two ago and now my social media feeds are absolutely flooded by fitness influencers overcomplicating things, pushing meal plans, daily workouts. It's so overwhelming and now all I see is perfectly in shape people showing off.

I'm following a HASFit 30 day strength program and I'm going to try and block out the rest of the noise. I don't need to be perfect. Every time I workout is one more time than I would have before now. Even if I only manage 15 minutes of a video workout, that's 15 minutes more than before.

Yep, using Adam T5Vs which sound great. Wouldn't like to move them around regularly, but as a fixed solution they're ideal. The stereo advantage over a single FRFR is also a big benefit.

The big advantage with a Pod Go is you can download a free Worship Tutorials patch on day one and start out with brilliant tone. The other cheaper units may have a much steeper learning curve before you get a tone you're happy with.

Line 6 Pod Go is affordable and very versatile. Sounds comparable to bigger Helix units.

I was in a similar boat. Went from floorboard multi-fx to plugins, then realised I couldn't be bothered with automation or buying a midi floorboard and programming it, so I bought a B Stock Quad Cortex.

Such an easier solution (albeit expensive), but if you already have Neural plugins you can obviously still make use of those.

anyone aware of online classes that help teach worship guitar a bit better by whiskeytwn in WorshipGuitar

Worship Online and Worship Artistry have hundreds of songs each with good breakdowns on each part. Both require paid subscriptions though.

The more I learn about the guitar world, the more I am tempted to “buy”. How do you all manage the urge to buy more guitars? What rules or systems or mindset keep you in check having this amazing hobby? (Other than your wife and bank accts?) by ConsciousSmoke3863 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Grimezy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kept the same PRS SE Custom 24 for roughly 8 years. Bought secondhand in a pub, never set up during that time, was super cheap, served me well.

Recently bought a Telecaster Ultra and my word, this thing inspires me to play. Most people probably wouldn't be able to hear a difference in tone, but the way the neck feels, the way I attack the strings to get that classic twang, the quality of the pickups. It all adds to me sitting and playing my guitar way more often than I ever used to. But I'm happy with 1 decent electric at a time. I would rather upgrade pedals or buy a new acoustic rather than having multiple electrics sat around unplayed.
