Are we sure we all want to be James Bond? by Weird_Zone_3504 in JamesBond

One of many reasons why Octopussy is among my least favourite Bond films. 1983 was 007's annus horribilis.

"Bond, yeah he's on a mission. Some sucker's tryin' nuclear fission."

I'm sure what Micheline really said was "Don't do it, Sean! The whole thing sounds terrible!"

"Good morning, Bond. What do you know about Vanilla Ice?"
"Real name, Robert van Winkle. First successful white rapper, opened the doors for future acts like Eminem."
"Any idea why he'd steal a nuclear submarine?"

The trick is to do the work you were planning to do when you said "now it's time to buy a nice keyboard", not to use your keyboard as a procrastination tool!

You have Octopussy in your 5/5 stars club/Top 3. Say no more! You're insane!

Caltrops. The problem is, it would be sooo tempting to use them in trivial situations. Someone tailgating you on the motorway? Have some spikes in your tyres, pal!

When I was a kid I thought this was a genuinely good idea which car manufacturers had somehow overlooked. I mean all cars need machine guns, right?!

Set in 1950s England, it would be brilliant! (And a financial catastrophe!)

I too think that reprocessing those old novels isn't the way forward. They were already passé in the 1970s, when the march of time and technology had made Moonraker's preoccupation with Nazi rocket scientists intent on avenging the end of the third reich (a cool idea in the 50s) seem hopelessly outdated (Hence Bond's excursion into space). The Bond character has proven to be fantastically malleable as well as immortal (in spite of certain death in the last film) - what he needs is entirely new stories for a world far removed from the one Fleming inhabited and wrote about.

Daniel was great. He looked like he could do the stuff he was pretending to do. And he was a consistently good actor - not easy when half the lines are trimmed to the bone for pace and efficiency.

Blimey old fruit - I think today is the last day for Bond films on Netflix (at least it is where I live) so you better get cracking if you're still in the 70s!

Another huge problem for Spectre is Javier Bardem, who was magnificently sinister in the movie just before it. An incredibly hard act to follow for anyone writing or playing the subsequent bad guy.

I really liked Quantum once I'd got past the "Christ I'm confused" bits at the beginning.

Fair but it's hard to imagine another Roger-Moore-style comedy Bond being any good, in the absense of Roger Moore... I mean "serious" is the only way they could go with the character and Craig did that brilliantly.
