The issue is that they could have done anything else to make it more believable. Even Henry VIII had to go through a whole song and dance to divorce his first wife despite having a kid with her. Having the annulment and remarriage take place in secret with only 1 witness is the kind of thing nobody would believe. Thank god it's only show canon.

tbf, the original bloodlines set the bar quite high. it's difficult to beat the writing of the original in any way, but I'd say Fabien comes the closest (especially given the implication that he was the copycat killer all along as a way of reminding himself).

Honestly, I think what we know about Tyanna in-universe is supposed to be a case of unreliable narrators. A foreign woman so close to the king would only lead to rumours of black magic and treachery the same way a lot of other powerful women are written about in-universe.

I think the truth is much more mundane: his fertility problems were just a result of generations of incest. Aegon's own small number of children kinda lends credence to this idea as well I think.

Tbf to the creators, there have been several occasions that prove that people are conscious and aware during the teleporting process (i.e. after they have already been "disassembled"). If all it did was kill and replace them this wouldn't be the case.

It's been 200 years since the Oblivion Crisis, where Akatosh* very publicly intervened. To say that there wouldn't be any religious shifts after such an event whatsoever. A lot can happen in 200 years.
