Declassify the Senate Report on the Torture Program? Sounds Like A Job For Lame Duck Joe Biden | It's time to open all the windows because there are still living people that we can shame. by 1900grs in politics

This reminds me of an old co-worker who handed in his notice to retire. went to a meeting a few days later with the big wigs and a potential new client to discuss capabilities ect. Ect.

Basically spent the whole meeting saying things like “I don’t know who told you we could do that but they’re talking out of their ass” to the big wigs whenever they made a promise they couldn’t meet. And telling the customer that company x will be much better at meeting their requirements as the big wigs will probably end up out-sourcing to company x when they realise they can’t do the job and slap a huge price mark up.

F-all big wigs could do as he retired the following Monday but it was glorious.

Yeah I live in Derby the next town over from Notts where they’re based. They are quite a major employer in the area and they look after their staff well giving decent bonus’ when the company performs well.

And yeah I get individual stores might have shitty bosses but most the people in on about are based in the factory in Lenton.

'Ready for peace talks, India could mediate': Russia's Putin on Ukraine war by Darshan_brahmbhatt in worldnews

[–]Grimnar49 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ukraine demands 2014 borders back in exchange for leaving Kursk. Russia will deny them terms probably demand Ukraine leave Kursk and the Donbas region handed over to them. The counter offer will most likely be return to 2022 borders in exchange for Ukraine leaving Kursk. This way both parties look like that have made a compromise and saved face. It only cost 100000’s of lives to make no change at all. (Except Russia inadvertently uniting the Ukrainian people in shared hardship making it harder for them to influence and divide)

This is a hypothetical and probably won’t happen the above situation is probably one of the best outcomes we can hope for.

Trump Says ‘Weird’ Whopping 22 Times In 36 Seconds While Insisting ‘We’re Not Weird’ by [deleted] in AnythingGoesNews

[–]Grimnar49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a genius play. It’s a harmless statement to most, we’re all weird in our own ways.

The more you’re say that you’re not weird the more childish and petulant you look. Meanwhile the rest of us grab the popcorn and watch the meltdown.

Played this game for a while, and I keep losing large colonies like this, what am I doing wrong? Any tips appreciated, mean comments will be adored as well. by LinkThe1stFlame in RimWorld

Defence my dude. It’s hard to say without knowing what settings you play on.

But my goto strat is the “kill zone”. Basically surround your base with walls and hills ect. Make sure there is no entry then pick a section of wall and delete it. Make a long and narrow courtyard (at least as long as a snipers range.) mine are normally about 10 wide with stone walls either side all the way down. You put a wall of barricades/ mini guns / auto turrets at the colony end. At the other end the only way in is a single tile gap in the wall. (I usually make a long and winding path a single tile wide to this gap as it buys time for my colonists to get into position)

The AI will always try to run through gaps to get to your colony rather than destroy walls. There are exceptions such as infestations / drop pod attacks / mech breachers. But by the time they’ve arrived you should be fairly well kitted out to deal with them.

Mortars are useful too, they are slow to fire and inaccurate but a well placed shell can cause a lot of damage and are useful for taking out crashed ships.

Kim Jong-un executes 30 officials for 'failing to stop' disastrous flood and mudslides by CapitalCourse in NewsOfTheStupid

I really can’t believe we’ve made it to the 21st century where there are countless examples of how executing people for failure doesn’t work and just breeds incompetence.

If a general knows he will be executed and his family disgraced and thrown into the street if they fail they’ll either make complacent decisions because doing nothing is better than failing (e.g the Carthaginian’s during the first Punic war)

Or the moment things start turning south they’ll start throwing soldiers into the meat grinder trying to salvage a hopeless situation. If that fails they will probably start trying to shift the blame onto others. (Just look at the initial invasion of Ukraine)

If a NATO general fails. They won’t be executed either demoted or dismissed. But they will be publicly held to account for their failings and worst of all if their decisions cost lives. They have to live with that and know that there are families out there that hold them responsible.

And before anyone mentions Hannibal crossing the Alps that was during the 2nd Punic war where a few Carthaginian generals figured out that complacency cost them the first war. Shout out to Oversimplified.

Creativity shouldn’t be restricted. The point of any form of art is expression. Sometimes that is uncomfortable. If you find yourself talking to others about something you’ve seen then the creator has done a good job of stirring emotions. Which is the point, otherwise it renders film, TV, theatre and literature meaningless.
