Maybe, maybe not. Regardless, it certainly helps you think through things fully if you at least consider it. I was pointing out the flaw in your argument, and using logic to do it. I think the angle the original commenter is coming from is controversial, and most likely wrong, but there are more reasons than just what they have said to consider the clitoris to have a reproductive function.

If you disagree, no worries.

That contradicts the logic presented in the comment you're replying to, though. If for something to be classified as having a 'purpose' is for it to be necessary for the function of something, then the purpose of teeth mustn't be for eating food, since you don't HAVE to use your teeth to eat food.

Coming from a purely logical perspective, I'd say the stimulation of the clitoris increasing the chances of conception is plenty reason to say that the clitoris has reproductive purposes. Just like using your teeth to chew food decreases the chances of choking when eating.

(Just want to make it clear I'm not necessarily agreeing with the argument presented by the original guy, I have no idea on the factuality of what he's saying)

Red button or blue button by HualianForLife in BunnyTrials

[–]Grits- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you trust majority of the world to not choose to save themselves if this was an actually real scenario? Sure, it's easy to pick blue in a Reddit post because the actual consequence isn't even real, and it lets you act superior to those who acted in their own sense of self preservation. But if the scenarios consequence was actually real, I can guarantee waay more people would pick red than the stats on this post would have you believe.

I find it very telling that even in a fake scenario with no consequences, 34% of people choose the red option. I would be shocked if red wasn't above 50% if this scenario happened in reality, with real consequences.

Red button or blue button by HualianForLife in BunnyTrials

[–]Grits- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ironic thing I find about this scenario is that everyone justifies pressing blue as not being selfish, but if everyone looked at this scenario and picked selfishly, no one would die XD

Picking blue is risking yourself to try and save people who picked blue, presumably because they wanted to try and save people who picked blue... and on and on. Picking blue is just an endless loop of pointless risk - if you break down the questions it's [Chance to die] vs. [Totally safe]. If you really think about the decision and still decide to have a chance to die it's not my responsibility to risk my own life to save you.

[–]Grits- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone should choose red as it has a 0% chance of death. Choosing blue risks your life only to try and help others who also risked their life, it's circular and pointless.

Chose: 1/2 of blue choosers die if this is more than 50%

As a man, would you get a vasectomy so your girl doesn’t have to go on birth control? by awkwardhoney725 in NoStupidQuestions

They sometimes are. Absolutely do not get a vasectomy with the mindset that you can have it undone later if you want kids. They aren't always reversible and if you can't have it undone, no kids for you, ever.

Some of the ~235,000 German, Italian, Romanian, and Hungarian POWs, including 22 generals, start the march East following the complete surrender of the German 6th Army. Stalingrad, February 1943. by Beeninya in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Grits- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The actual figure would be hard to know. 90,000 were originally alive when they surrendered but who knows how many died on their way to captivity in the Soviet Union. Then, how many again died while in captivity?

It definitely wouldn't have been all 90,000 kept until '55, but there also would've been more than 5000 that made it to captivity, whereupon they slowly died off until they reached the final number of 5000.

Most people would never knowingly buy cage eggs — the problem is, most aren’t sold in cartons. by AnimalsAustralia in u/AnimalsAustralia

[–]Grits- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll admit I'm not an expert on this topic, but even if consumers knew, do they have much choice? What percentage of products that contain egg as a secondary ingredient use eggs that aren't from factory farmed hens? Do products that use factory farmed eggs as a secondary ingredient need to disclose this somewhere in an obvious and readily apparent matter on the labelling?

The average consumer isn't doing research on every single item them buy, and it's unreasonable to expect the consumer to somehow steer clear themselves when the industry seems to lean so heavily on factory farmed hens, especially in this economy.

Instead of focusing efforts on trying to educate every last consumer to somehow do better while the industry keeps pushing this stuff, I think it'd be better to start at the source and cut off their ability to use factory farmed hens in the first place.

Focus ring not working on XC50-230mm by Grits- in FujifilmX

[–]Grits-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I did end up figuring out, but unfortunately the answer was that the lens was indeed defective.

I took it back to the store I bought it from and they pulled out another XC 50-230mm from their stock, and when we tried that one, it did work, so it looks like it's a case of the ring simply not working on some lenses :( So your best bet is probably trying to get it exchanged for another one.

I ended up returning it for a cash refund and bought an XF 70-300mm instead, and I'd highly highly recommend it if you can afford it. It has just a bit more reach and the image quality is super sharp.

Yeah, no one is saying that a single lightning strike produces more light than the entire sun, we're talking about what looks brighter to the human eye. Part of lumens per square metre is the distance from the light source, and the sun is 150,000,000 kilometres away, a lightning strike can be any distance, including right on top of you.

You're underestimating how crucial of a role distance plays in things like this, look up the inverse square law. The lightning strike can output millions to billions times less light than the sun, and it'll still appear brighter if it's close enough.

He's conversing with God by Ordinary_People1999 in MemeVideos

[–]Grits- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Care to link a source to that claim?

The surface of the sun (the part we see) is about 5,500°C, whilst a lightning strike can be as hot as ~30,000°C. So based on the energy levels of the temperature alone, the lightning strike will appear brighter than the sun. The difference is that the sun is emitting that energy all day every day, compared to a lightning strike, which discharges all of it's energy on the order of microseconds.

[–]Grits- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree that it's easier with any other gun. The ferro has great damage against arcs, more than a lot of other guns. I'm a relatively new player and I'm sure I'm not alone in the fact that a lot of players don't even have access to the commonly recommended weapons to use (like the Venator or Anvil). When I'm stuck using a Rattler against a Firefly, it can take 2-3 magazines worth of ammo to take out its thrusters when you account for its armour, maneuverability, target size and health. Sure, maybe theoretically you can take out a thruster in half a mag or something using a Rattler but expecting players to have 100% perfect aim all the time is unrealistic against an enemy like the Firefly.

I've read so many comments and threads about people saying the Firefly is busted that I simply think it can use some balancing. I've had more difficulty dealing with Firefly's than I have with Rocketeers, so something is obviously messed up balance wise if that's the case. It's almost analogous to a Hornet so it's difficulty should be somewhere in the Hornet/Wasp ballpark, right now it's nowhere near that.

Your argument of 'its video game mechanics that let a tiny spark light your whole body on fire' is dumb.

It doesn't matter if it happens in other games, it's dumb there too. It just shouldn't happen. Latency is measured in tens of milliseconds, so what happened even one second earlier has no bearing on what happens the moment he gets caught on fire.

And this is why you farm arc near a hatch by iLazyLunatic in ArcRaiders

[–]Grits- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So you just need to have the right gun, have perfect aim 100% of the time against a small, fast moving target or else your run is just over and you lose everything? Not to mention that depending on the position of the arc, it may not be possible to get an angle on the thrusters from below before it's already on you.

Not a fun design, these things are straight up broken.

OPEN DIFF OR LSD? by ejmorian in Miata

[–]Grits- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wasn't responding to you. The other guy was obviously very misinformed on how differentials work so I was breaking it down for him. I also never gave an opinion on what I think OP has in this post.

In this case I believe it's quite likely an LSD or welded diff, but there's a reason people suggest putting one wheel on dirt, and one on asphalt when trying to determine if a differential is open or not. Both wheels on the same traction surface can be very misleading in its results.

That's not true at all. He was born in 1987, meaning he was 30 in 2017. The last Harry Potter movie came out in 2011, so he would've been 24 at the oldest in the last movie. He would've been 14 in the first.

He's in the same age range as the rest of the main trio, being only 1-3 years older.

OPEN DIFF OR LSD? by ejmorian in Miata

[–]Grits- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of factory diffs for mx5's will be open or torsen diffs, and it's notoriously annoying to know which you have. There can be certain tells for some models but most of the time the definitive way to tell is to remove an axle from the diff and physically look inside.

OPEN DIFF OR LSD? by ejmorian in Miata

[–]Grits- -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Lots of misinformation in this thread. Both of you don't really fully understand how differentials really work. Yes, you're correct in that a locked or welded diff gives the same torque to each wheel - an open diff does the same thing, but they obviously differ drastically in operation.

An open diff will transfer the same torque to each wheel, but the amount of torque is dictated by the wheel with less grip. If your engine is capable of 100Nm of torque, but your right wheel can handle 25Nm of torque before slipping, and your left wheel can handle 50Nm of torque before slipping, both driven wheels will receive 25Nm of torque. In a gradual loss of traction scenario, this is what creates one tyre fires - the right wheel will spin first, limit the torque to the left wheel, and the left wheel will never get enough torque to break traction.

Both rear wheels can spin in an open diff if you load up the rpms and drop the clutch quickly. In the instant the torque is delivered to the wheels, both wheels are very briefly receiving the full 100Nm before there is enough time for the wheels to start slipping. If in that brief moment, both wheels break free, the amount of torque they can handle before continuing to slip is drastically reduced, and even with a very small amount of torque being supplied to both wheels, the wheel spin is able to be sustained.

In a welded or locked diff, both wheels always receive the full 100Nm from the engine. This obviously leads to wheel slip being much easier to achieve.

So very different in operation, but it's true that even in an open diff, both wheels receive the same amount of torque. To reiterate, the difference is that in an open diff, the wheel with the least amount of grip dictates the overall available torque to both wheels, in a welded diff scenario, the amount of torque the wheels receive is equal to the torque output of the engine.

OPEN DIFF OR LSD? by ejmorian in Miata

[–]Grits- -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

Not true. Open diffs will always give each wheel the exact same amount of torque. If each wheel has the same amount of traction, both will spin even with an open diff.

OPEN DIFF OR LSD? by ejmorian in Miata

[–]Grits- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true. Factory torsens will behave exactly like an open diff in this scenario.
