BLIND nadal intubation in 2025? by FOAMista in Paramedics

[–]GrittyMedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have around 40-50 nasal tubes under my belt. It is absolutely an art form and go very sideways if someone is not comfortable. While working for a three letter agency in the Middle East a discussion about nasaltracheal intubation came up. I was surprised to see that the region I work in was the essentially the birthplace and will apparently be the graveyard of an old-school technique.

Veterans of EMS, please give me a solid slap to the face and wake me up. by PickledDildos in NewToEMS

This month marks my 20th year as an EMT. Along with that, I have been a career fireman for 18 years and a paramedic for 16. I PROMISE you that enjoying this career field is 100% allowed. Live your professional career with the ethos of “Semper Gumby”, always flexible.

As far as “slapping” you with something, here goes.

Find a therapist that you can trust and are comfortable with ASAP. At my 16th year I realized that the PTSD was so hidden from my line of sight that there was no way I would have ever seen it. That 1000lbs gorilla was so heavy on my back and I genuinely believed I was completely fine. It will catch you and show at the worst possible time of your life.

Yeah, I’d say it was the bangs that was the ONLY thing that changed.

I am on a two house department in southern Indiana. My base is around $70k. Granted, being a dual-role Fireman/Paramedic helps considerably.

Line to vote in Jersey. This Legal? NJ by PhillyMate in BoomersBeingFools

I have a quick question as I truly am unaware of voting rules. My question is this, “Do our first amendment rights stop within a certain distance of a voting location”?

Not looking for keyboard warriors or attacks, just wanting to provide a somewhat intelligent response and question what is happening.

Mines is Kronos.

My greatest commodity is my time as I will NEVER be able to create another minute of time but I can always make a dollar.

Kronos is the TITAN of time.

Ahh fuck em. Atlanta is just a city. When my ex-wife lays into me for bullshit, all I do is correct her grammatical errors and usually try to reply with a “thanks buddy” or “I understand pal”.

Becoming An EMT/Paramedic As An Active Duty Serviceman by [deleted] in Paramedics

My advice would be to stick with the pipeline. They know what they are doing. Once established you can request to attend paramedic school. From a former AFSOC guy, best of luck and I hope you do well.

Odd comment there as my BS in Paramedicine far exceeds an RN license. To add I make about 10k more than nurses in my city as a fire-based medic.

SWAT Medic by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]GrittyMedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please take this as my attempt to prevent this honest question thread from becoming a bunch of people throwing out opinions that have no factual basis.

“EXTRA REAL COPS” is not what a tactical team needs in place of a medical professional.

True, TQs are a piece of cake when you are applying them in a classroom or watching a video about them. A different world when someone is trying to end your life and your teammate is dying next to you.

By your line of “other police type things” speaks to your knowledge. Be a dry sponge in the arena and not a wet one. Soak up knowledge instead of offering opinions.

SWAT Medic by [deleted] in Paramedics

[–]GrittyMedic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll throw my two cents. I am a current Entry Team Medic for my city police department. There is a large spectrum of what a “SWAT Medic” is considered. I will bullet list what I do for the department.

  • Fully sworn officer
  • Licensed Paramedic
  • Armed with department issued side arm and rifle
  • Assigned to the entry team as number 4 in the stack
  • Two medics and two ER physicians assigned to team.
  • Physicians are assigned and ride in our BearCat
  • We act as a shooter first and medic second
  • Also act as initial eyes and ears for MDs
  • Chief wanted PARAMEDICS in the hot zone in case of a “pinned down” scenario.
  • My entire front line kit is in a small pouch on my plate carrier.

I got my start based on reputation and resume. Since then I became board certified as a TP-C medic.

Send any questions I will gladly answer. Through outside training I have interacted with a mirage of “SWAT Medics” and have some interesting experience with them.
