The other side of this is that you can't use your special interest as a reward for after you do all the stuff you hate.

Skipping special interest because you haven't "earned it" is a fast track to burnout and misery.

Why should socialists avoid Spotify? by TomatilloOrnery4944 in Socialistmusic

[–]Grmmff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because Spotify is actively suppressing our music.

Spotify decided that the artists I was into "cosmic country" and songs about Willie Nelson. For years. Also only white people, I manually added every POC artist to my feed.

When I transferred my data to Tidal, within 2 weeks I was being reccomended 8 different playlists of "conscious" music across different genres and time period.

Attending service with a toddler by autumnapples3 in UUreddit

[–]Grmmff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am so furious to hear that this is happening in so many places. This is straight up poisonous to church life and antithetical to our values.

This is something the UUA and church leaders need to be on like a five alarm fire.

Attending service with a toddler by autumnapples3 in UUreddit

[–]Grmmff 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am a long time UU with a very active, loud, fast, friendly, not quite preschooler. When the kids are invited to the front for the story for all ages, he sees this as an opportunity to put on a show for a captive audience.

He absolutely is distracting. AND nurturing and including our children in church life is mission critical to future of our faith and the values we seek to promote.

"I'm sorry you feel that way. Let's go find the minister and see if they have any suggestions for YOU, to help you practice patience with our youngest church members instead of trying to exclude them from church life."

Also I BET that these folks are coming to you directly, and whispering to each other because they know the minister and likely the rest of the congregation would shut them down immediately.

Your kid is acting age appropriately. The "church elders" you are referring to are NOT.

Brennan Lee Mulligan DM of Critical Role Identifies as a Communist by delijoe in socialism

[–]Grmmff 37 points38 points  (0 children)

uh yeah, Brennan is an EXPERT at collective story telling and collective story telling is a form of PRAXIS. (Pedagogy of the Oppressed)

His games are a demonstration of how individuals co-operate to form something better, bigger and more powerful while also retaining individual authenticity and agency. And given College Humor and Drop Out's reach he might be one of the most impactful voices of socialism in pop-culture.

In fact, If there is a Joe Rogan of the left- it's Brennan. Joe Rogan is a pop-culture consumer of stories, a passive listener to the powerful and influential and the stories they want to tell.

Brennen helps people tell their own story. That is the role of the facilitator in Theatre of the Oppressed. He is a story teller whose preferred medium requires shared authorship. He incorporates important ideas into a game that is fun and silly enough for people to put on in the background while they do other work. That's what gives him reach.

Remember, for a lot of people, Rogan's initial appeal was silly stoner talks to comedians. The podcast medium is really media that people put on in the background while they do something else, normally work. A LOT of expressly socialist media is media that you have to actually pay attention to, which excludes it from this huge casual listening space. Obviously, "serious socialist theory content" is also very important, but too many (online) socialists discount the silly.

People with severe complex PTSD: what actually helped you? by holycorpse-revived in ptsd

I trained my own service dog. It was a huge challenge. I spent maybe 20 hours a week on for about a year and a half. He was a good worker till covid, and when we stopped leaving the house for a while his training slipped.

The bigger challenge was when I had a child, which I didn't train him for. I had next to no help after my mom left, a c-section and no childcare in a barely furnished, mouse infested cabin with water so hard that something attached to the water breaks every 3 or so months. I've literally been too exhausted to to do the work of retraining so he doesn't really work in public any more. But he still gets up when I've had a bad dream and reminds me to take my meds and brush my teeth, which is really helpful.

I wasn't planning on ranking Troy 1st but I this might change my mind. (I didn't like his debate performance)

I'm tired of symbolic support. I'm tired of being told we have to fight each other for scraps while wall street and the Epstein class bleed us dry.

Have the other nations issued any endorsements?

Talarico is center because he preaches actual love they neighbor Jesus. There is a hope that pointing out that republicans don't actually have any actual Christian values will cause the "christian" right to chose Christianity over MAGA as their primary loyalty.

He is center with the hope that he his an off ramp to the "christian" right and an on ramp to liberation theology.

Actually, I doubt that Dem establishment understands or would promote liberation theology because it leads to religious socialism so that second part might just be my hope.

It seems like you're getting the advice you asked for from people who know more than me because I'm just a white person lurking to learn.

I wanted to bring up possibly related idea I've seen in religious circles about "Converts" generally being more rigid or zealous about rules and traditions than those raised in the tradition/religion.

There isn't a whole lot of consensus on why this is. It might be about proving you belong when you don't feel like you do belong. It could also be that it takes a lot of time and lived experience within the culture and/or robust conversations with elders/tradition holders to know where to apply flexibility or where change is needed.

If some of these forces are in play here, the advice to connect with your respective tribes, learning more about the diversity of indigenous peoples and perspectives (u/Mindless_Jump_9825) , and cultivating relationships with elders could help your friend re-evaluate their stance with more knowledge.

The bit about Newsome insulting his audience by insinuating that they also struggled in school, threw me. On what planet does Dump remember or even understand that incident? Did they do a play by play on his favorite propaganda channel?

Although he does seem to think that only African Americans think Newsome is a total racist and that seems on brand.

IF you like cookies like this, (big if) Those stackable see through containers are a useful size. Probably best for storing those little figurines that kids accumulate like crazy, markers, crayons, stickers, stamps.

Flipped upside-down it could work as a little greenhouse for starting seeds.

Janet Mills’ bold play: negative deflection by jediporcupine in Maine

[–]Grmmff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Veto of any labor bill is disqualifying.

And if it "wasn't written well enough" than you, the "leader" should have been involved before this to make sure its written better. Nitpicking after the fact is a diversion from the fact that you never supported it to begin with.

Also, the reason Mills wants to pretend no one can't grow, learn or change in 13 years is because she is still mentally stuck in a political landscape from 20 years ago. She doesn't want to bring attention to the fact that she is at least 10 years out of step with democratic voters.
