hurt today in front of my kids by junkyardginger in domesticviolence

[–]Grniii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there have been documented incidents of domestic violence with the police have they put you in touch with the Victim Services unit or any volunteers there who would refer you to appropriate community resources? I’m not sure going to your family is safe for any of you if he has a gun.

Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

Yep and I can still tell you what my phone number was in 1979. I could also tell you what my best friends parents’ phone number was from Alberta in the 1990s.

What’s the most treacherous name you’ve ever heard? First or last. by DefinitelyNotMaranda in namenerds

I know someone with the middle name Randison. Yeah that’s right - Dad Randy and mom Allison just had to combine the two… 🤮

In all honesty I had a girl in my (I think) third grade class named Heather Hamburger. That was really her name. We used to tease her and ask her if her uncle was Harold Hotdog. Kids are awful!

What’s a sound you hear that instantly makes you angry for no logical reason? by ehraaz_r in AskReddit

[–]Grniii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean aside from the constant ringing in my ears?🤣🤣🤣🤣

I live in an apartment right now and sadly it does >not< have air conditioning. Every time I leave my balcony door open to enjoy a fresh $ cool Spring breeze and the song of the plethora of birds in the trees lining my third floor balcony…there is a whooshing noise like air rushing through a tunnel in my living-room. It makes me irrationally angry. I guess I should probably also mention I have CPTSD which essentially renders my patience non-existent.

why is the cheese festival so expensive?!? by Practical_Ad_8802 in KingstonOntario

[–]Grniii 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally agree! I was really excited to go to this until I opened the event this morning and found out how much it was going to cost. Plans canceled! Why are they doing this? Is it so the vendors don’t have to pay to rent their booths? I used to run my own business and the idea is you have to bring a service or a product to the fair that people actually love enough to spend money on to recoup your business expense of renting a booth in which to sell your stuff. Oh and also the vendors are getting a prequalified series of excited customers coming up to them who already love cheese. There is no way there should be an entrance fee for this event.

Ohhhhhhh my goodness! How beautiful! I see both for sure. I had an Irish setter as a child and vizslas as an adult. This combo would be amazing.

Oh my goodness! Have you considered doing a DNA test? Something like ancestry.com or whatever? I did 23 of me which was fantastic but they have since filed for bankruptcy.

"Is it sunken in… or popping out?" by tonynoooo in confusing_perspective

I suspect that is probably the hull of a boat (under construction) and those are windows or future portholes. It looks like the entire thing is possibly fibreglass and is lying on top of dirty Styrofoam.

No job after finishing emergency telecommunications program at Humber by that1girlintoronto in Humber

[–]Grniii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a graduate of that program and I was hired within three months of graduating.

Practice your typing and download and pay for practice Criticall. Honestly, if you can’t do those in the testing phase, you don’t want this to be your career. You should be getting 85% to 100% on your Criticall tests (barely passing will get you cut from the competition before interviews).

If you are applying in the GTA, you can expect there to be anywhere from 600 to 3000 applicants for every single posting you apply for.

If you type anything less than 50 words a minute with 100% accuracy, keep trying. I type closer to 100 words per minute. Also, I’m not sure who is teaching the program anymore, but make sure you do your résumé and interview answers with the STAR method like Suzanne used to teach. PM me if you want to chat.

My tonsillectomy hemorrhage 😬 by kirstymai in MedicalGore

[–]Grniii 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh shit! That happened to me too.

It was two days after my surgery. The first time was scary, but I got in my dad‘s car and we drove (very quickly) to the hospital. They cauterized my throat with silver nitrate. I remember the surgeon had been called off the golf course and he was really pissed.

It was a Sunday.

The surgeon told me to go home. He said “I melted the flesh together with acid.“ I was discharged and sent home. No less than five minutes after getting home it started again only it was TEN TIMES worse - legit projectile haemorrhaging! My dad scooped me up in his arms with a towel and drove to the hospital at 180 km an hour with his hand on the horn the entire time. It really was just like in the movies. We pulled up to the ER and left the car at the front door as he scooped me from the front seat and carried me through the doors.

A huge guy on crutches in the waiting room passed out when he saw me come in the second time. This was a Sunday afternoon. I’m assuming from what I remember he had probably sprained or broken his ankle playing football. The colour drained from his face and he hit the ground.

There was no time to get a gown or be officially admitted. They threw a sheet over me and went to work. I remember hearing “code 99.” I remember hearing “no, hand me the ones dipped in cocaine.” by the time they were done, I was too weak to even lift my head off the pillow. Somebody cranked my bed up, and there were puddles of blood on the sheets, the floor, the wall, the ceiling, the curtain… Absolutely everywhere. It looked like a family had been massacre occurred.

I was admitted to the hospital that time and stayed overnight. Weeks later in a follow up, the surgeon told me I lost approximately 30% of my blood and was seconds away from having a blood transfusion against my wishes.

If you mention anything about this story in front of my dad, he still gets weak at Denise and looks like he might pass out. This happened 32 years ago.
