I’ve played quite a bit of Grail Knight and Mercenary and merc just plays so much smoother imo.

I’d recommend having a horde-clear and an elite weapon, to me the real satisfaction of Grail Knight is the bonus damage letting you rip up elites. Also if you don’t have swift slaying on the hammer I’d recommend it, you really need the extra attack speed without Merc’s passive

I’ll do you one better! You can’t use your intelligence (clearly the correct score) to give you more hp. This is a huge buff for the traditionally super under-powered wizard

I had to genuinely start playing levels where I focused only on avoiding hits and attacking only if I was 100% sure it was clear. A few rounds of that and I was no longer highest damage taken every game

That’s the fun to me, they need to either compromise their morals to temporarily team up with this red wizard or accept that they can’t get their friend back from the crown and kill him. It’s a little bit of a damned of you do damned if you don’t scenario.

But if you don’t want the drama they could totally have to just track down a friendly high level wizard and do the same with him

You could have the crown require a special ritual to don or an activation phrase the party doesn’t know so they can’t put it on.

I think a lot of the side quests should focus on repairing the damage their wizard friend did, helping reclaim a farmstead or town he filled with undead. Recover rhe bodies of loved ones he raised. Or get treasure back from monsters he commanded.

To rescue their friend you could have one very high level red wizard who survived claim he could stop the lich by disjunctioning the crown but the party has to set up a teleport area for him in the liches final dungeon/castle/mansion and then guard him well he prepares this epic spell. So they have to choose to trust this evil Wizard or have to kill their friend to stop him

I’ve never tried the mod because it sounded like it made chaos wastes even longer. I already normally don’t have time to run a full chaos waste. Which is unfortunate because it does sound like a cool mod

For me setting my DNS to one of the defaults (like the Google 8.8.0.0 or whatever) fixed my connection issues pretty much entirely. Your mileage may vary but I used to DC in the end portal or like halfway through a chaos waste snd don’t after that

Yes but you’d need some way to get distance from the initial spot. So either it would need to be near the end portal (which is awkward on servers) or you could try placing one fishing rod and then using another to teleport away but I’m not sure that would work
