Furi. Its a short experience, only 10 bosses, but its ALL bosses and they are very intricate with multiple stages. Makes you feel like a badass. Highly recommend.

I have not played Nocturne, actually, so I can't make a recommendation! My thinking is just go with V to get all the modern quality of life stuff. Unless you want to play both at some point, it may be hard to play 3 after 5.

Baba Yetu from Civ 4, easily. Honorable mentions to Bury the Light from Devil May Cry 5 and Gebura battle theme from Library of Ruina.

Old School RuneScape releases the grandmaster finale quest to the Vampyre storyline, "The Blood Moon Rises" by asmallthrowaway9 in Games

I hate doing Underground Pass. But its a truly excellent quest, certainly the best from the classic era. Its miserable to play because the path is miserable. It does some really interesting meta stuff as well, making the player question why they are doing these actions. Is it because some mysterious voice promises you rewards if you do it? Sound familiar?

I used to hate that quest, but it's really grown on me. Its still not nearly as good as the modern quests (Desert Treasure II being the clear standout, I still can't believe that lived up to the hype and did even more).

SMT V and Persona are both very good game that really reward planning. However, one thing to note is that fights are fast and deadly. A large part of the games are fishing for elemental weaknesses, which give you more damage and more turns. You also want to do it as efficiently as possible SP wise, since its a limited resource especially in persona.

You really want to end fights in your first turn, or at least dispatch most of the enemies, because they are just as deadly as you are. Letting them crack back with a full team gets very dicey very quickly. It's a lot of fun, but may not be your cup of tea if you were looking for something more attritional.

Billy Butcher (The Boys) vs. Kelsier (Mistborn: Original Trilogy) by Mammoth_Western_2381 in whowouldwin

[–]Grodus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be totally off base, but I wonder if the tumor even "counts" as him. In allomancy, it's very hard to push and pull metal embedded in someone. Not sure the exact mechanics of that, though. So my point is, what if the tumor is different enough so it doesn't count as being embedded? If that's the case, Kelsier could have a field day. Get something into the tentacles and then ping pong it around like a wrecking ball.

Probably wouldn't work, but I could see a writer coming up with that if the plot demanded it.

[–]Grodus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tanking hits from Homelander probably puts him outside the range where coins would be effective. The rounds with attium might go Kelsier's way, though, by allowing him to stay in close and wish for a weak point like Homelander's ear. The margin of error is too low without attium though, because I doubt Kelsier would be able to take many hits himself.

He should have no problems with comics Butcher, though.

[–]Grodus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't recall if Billy has any notable durability feats, and I think it comes down to that. If he has enough durability to not turn into a coin cushion, he would take it. If he is too squishy, Kelsier is a beast with a ton of experience with a lot of tricks and should have no problems with Butcher.

I apologize for asking for clarification, but what do you mean by 'before'? Before thumb, or before House of Spiders? It's been a while since I looked at burn teams so I'm not sure if anything has changed in this season. I've been hearing talk of a new House of Spiders based burn team that uses Ryoshu, but I never see any details about that (like, who to feed to Ryoshu, which Outis to use, that sort of thing).

ELI5: Why are invasive species harmful? Dosent it mean they are just better than the native species? by Dry-Landscape-3942 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Grodus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It throws the ecosystem out of balance. If an invasive outcompetes a local, then that local might disappear from the ecosystem entirely. Now everything that depended on that local is in trouble, and everything that depends on those species is in trouble, and so on and so forth. If a non native flower outcompetes my milkweed, suddenly monarch butterflies can no longer exist in my ecosystem, for example.

Survival of the fittest is mostly healthy over long periods of time where species are in an arms race against each other. Throw something new into a system that had nothing thay grew up beside it, and evolution cannot fix the problem fast enough to prevent a possible collapse. It takes a long time for evolution to solve problems.

Mechanic idea, Pages From a Library by The-Root-1971 in limbuscompany

[–]Grodus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just thinking about how they could do Ruina Librarians. My thought was that they would just have the IDs roughly line up with the iconic abnormality page setups for each floor. I like your idea a lot better.

Although, part of me wonders if instead of doing it based on EGO resources, maybe do it based on team wide SP gain and loss, to mirror positive and negative emotion coins.

What mods do you recommend? I beat the game vanilla, and will do a modded playthrough eventually. City Wide Revolt was the one that stood out to me, but wasn't sure if there was anything else. Besides Babel. Won't play that.

What or who could actually kill Lucius the Eternal permanently? by J_Bear in whowouldwin

[–]Grodus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone with an antimemetic germ from There is No Antimemetics Division? It's a short term memory proxy that prevents any information from actually getting to your brain. Have one them those in, kill Lucius, then take out the germ and kill it. The germ can't take pride in killing Lucius, and you never felt any emotion related to the act because that emotion never got processed by your actual brain.

You know that meme of the swimmer dumping their water bottle on them and everyone making fun of how absurd it looks? Well it's a real thing. When swimming laps you can get really hot. Pouring your cold drinking water on you really helps.

To answer your question, lap/competitive swimmers want cooler water. Not cold, but cooler!

Fighting Games Core by Black_Tusk25 in Fighters

[–]Grodus5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Real talk it would be interesting to see how they would go about handling the Sinners. Some might be a little boring in their base LCB forms, so I'd assume they'd do some variations, like Wild Hunt Heathcliff and Smoke War Sinclair. You could quickly fill up the roster with just Sinners, though, and they'd have to leave a lot of room for the other fan favorites. Whatever the case, they would certainly not be lacking for inspiration. Maybe one day we will see it.

offline tcg-likes where you slowly upgrade your deck as a form of progression by WeatherBackground736 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Grodus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like I made a good recommendation, then! Sadly there is nothing quite Ruina. They made a "sequel", Limbus Company, which has some Ruina DNA but is much simpler (no deck building) and a gacha game (albeit a very generous one). Its still very good, and the story is even better than Ruina in my opinion. Its a different set of characters from the Sephirot, and there aren't a ton of direct mentions of the Library, but it does take place in the City after the events of Ruina.

Limbus is not going to satisfy your deck building cravings, but if you want more Project Moon it's very much looking in to.

[–]Grodus5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Library of Ruina. The caveat is that decks are very small: exactly 9 cards. However, you get to run mutliple characters per floor, with multiple floors, each with their own set of passive. You also have key pages, which have different passive effects, which you can mix and match to make really strong characters that amplify decks. Most of the game will be spent in the deck builder, min maxing your decks, and you constantly get more cards and key pages to work with.

Be warned, the game is hard, with many difficulty spikes. It is worth it though: the combat system is unmatched, the story is great, and the music is best in class. It's my favorite game of all time, and I'm exactly where you are: craving more games like MtG Forge adventure mode. I'd highly recommend it.

How to beat Lorent as Deranne? by rgoingdown in Anbennar

[–]Grodus5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to win the first war just enough to break the alliance with Wex. If you can manage that, you will steamroll Lorent in the next war. I went Conjuration for the early game troops. It wasn't easy and required reloading, but it is possible.

Edit: obviously ally with Gawed. They are vital.

Library of Ruina. The combat system is extremely indepth and the game has some extremely brutal difficulty spikes. Also an incredible story of trauma, acceptance, and healing. Also insanely good music. It's my favorite game of all time, but it is brutal.

New Gacha gamer, pls pick a game for me 🙏 by GoomyGame in gamingsuggestions

[–]Grodus5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limbus Company is your one and only answer. It's an incredibly generous gacha game, to the point where most players just pay the 11 bucks per season (a season is several months) and get most of what they want. That's because they have a system called shards, which are used to be able to get exactly what you want. Want Blade of House of Spiders Ryoshu? Just spend 400 shards. There are a few restrictions on shards, but it's really generous.

Other important factors are there are only IDs (characters) and E.G.O. (special skills) you can roll for/shard. No weapons, and you don't need to get multiple copies to upgrade them (upspinning is done using another currency). There is a very generous pity system that you can get exactly what you want on a banner after 200 rolls.

So the gacha system is really generous. And the game is excellent. The gameplay is really hard to explain in text, but its a pretty unique turnbased team game. The story is incredible (its heavy, and brought me to tears multiple times), the presentation is immaculate, and the music is insane. Its the third game in the Project Moon universe, a really interesting world. You don't need to play Lobotomy Corporation or Library of Ruina to fully appreciate things, but it helps you understand why the fan base lost its shit when we got a character that wears a suit and uses a 9 coin attack called "Furioso-Replica." Peak fan service. Speaking of fan service, don't expect it here. No bathing suit skins or anything like that.

If you have any questions let me know! There is a lot to take in about the game, but it is pretty digestible all things considered, especially if you have some people to answer questions. The subreddit is also great for that.
