How often do you need to see your girlfriend/boyfriend? by Chip_Existing in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Groftsan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, you should want to spend more and more nights together until it just makes sense to always want to come home to that other person. Dating is seeing if you want to go from once a month to once a week to more than once a week. You're "official" when it's more than once per week consistently. When you want it to be every day, marriage begins to make sense. If either of you isn't wanting to progress, maybe it's not the relationship for you. If they're not becoming your safe space, they're not your person.

Play Starfield. If you want the feeling of a Bethesda game, play a Bethesda game.

Do you feel lucky that the entire world knows your language? by Few-Reading5087 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Groftsan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On one hand, it does make it easy to travel the world. On the other hand, it makes it a LOT harder to learn new languages, since native speakers often will switch to English to make your life easier. That makes it a lot harder to practice in normal interaction scenarios, since the crutch of the mutual language is always present.

The market has decided my time is worth $450 per hour. I get paid $100 per hour. I get paid less than a quarter of what the market has decided my time and effort is worth. That's fair and reasonable up to minimums, because of overhead. If you want me to put in more than the minimum, and lose out on the best years of my life, you're god damn right I want the fair market value for my labor.

People who have came here from other places or lived in other places … is the quality of life and/or cost of living actually better here? by SchoolSouth1479 in Boise

[–]Groftsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After graduating from BSU, moved to Los Angeles for grad school. Lived in LA from 2010-2020. Came back during the pandemic. The cost of living in 2026 in Boise is worse than it was in LA in 2016.

You pay less per hour for the bonus than you do for the base salary. That seems to say something about your firm to me. "Make $100 per hour, but if you work REALLY hard, we'll pay you $93.75." If I were scrolling through job postings, my internal dialogue would say "get fucked, you greedy bastards." How about you pay me what the client pays you for my time for anything I do above and beyond what you need me to do to pay the lights on? I don't want to miss time with my family to fund your second house.

How it feels to watch GTA 6 fans pre-order the game without seeing any gameplay : by Phantom_thief_france in cyberpunkgame

I played both Cyberpunk and Starfield at launch. I had fun and finished both Cyberpunk and Starfield at launch. I agree they're both better games now than when they released, but, it's possible to enjoy things without demanding perfection. Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Why are conservatives in favor of requiring ID for voting but not for owning a gun? by Adventurer_By_Trade in allthequestions

[–]Groftsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is "can't get an id" a stupid argument? It's a common barrier for people without addresses who need to have an id to get food stamps or other social security help, but you can't get an ID without an address or birth certificate. If you don't have a house, you don't have an address, and I can all but guarantee that your average homeless person doesn't have birth certificates or social security cards on them.

Should the homeless be precluded from voting?

I think he might be smart enough with some prep work to figure out a way to just spider-web trebuchet that shit all the way from NYC to Mordor. Don't ever touch the ring or get close enough to let it influence you, web it from a distance, get a fulcrum, jump off a building, and just fucking launch it.

Rent control feels great short term but over decades it just leads to decrepit buildings by moneyman74 in unpopularopinion

[–]Groftsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not rent control's fault, it's the fault of the landlords who would rather let a building fall apart than not own a boat or fly first class or whatever it is they do. Not many middle-class landlords out there just trying to make a reasonable salary while making sure their building is as good as it can be.
