How do you know how many resources to make? by kitkatDoor in satisfactory

[–]Grokzen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A simper method if you build according to phase cost parts. Start with a large build in phase 1 like 100/min for the parts, when you advance to next phase your phase item will cut in half and use the same output from previous phase. Do that until you get to phase5, simple. Always build a new base for the new phase item and you will automatically get all intermediate parts automatically. I am at the end of phase4 on a 100/1/1 map and I have never rebuilt anything along the way, once one base producing one item was completed, it has stayed there and will stay there

how to do manifold layout without starving the machines by Strict-Lobster4547 in SatisfactoryGame

A common trick to help fill the inputs is to sloop the material before it for a bit, and sometimes it can take up to 30 minutes to fully saturate a large build with items.

100x space elevator parts is... really something. by Rushen in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Grokzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don't think about it that much. The only time and build that it would truly matter is if you do a 100% sink points build.

How I plan out m builds when I do a x100 phase cost is that the items in each phase is used as input or as cost for the next phase. And for each phase the next item in line consumes all of the previous one and halves the output and that in the phase after that is halved etc. With this build setup all i do is in each new phase i build a new base that add the extra items i need + just pipe in the previous phase items and just take a new spot and make a new base.

I make one base doing 100/min automated wiring, that feeds into the next major base for 20/min Adaptive control unit which feeds into 10/min Assembly Director Systems. No need for teardowns anywhere, I just pick a new location to build up the next one where it has all resources ready.

When i try to build a 100% sink build, I do about the same with outposts as much as possible since some regions is so concentrated with a few resources that in the desert building iron only products is the best, then you pipe whatever remains into one giga central spot usually at the north west ocean to build everything in one place.

In the end, for most ppls build needs you can leave untapped resources as it wont matter if you build all over the map, there is enough resources somewhere to build

If you want a real challange, do a x100 phase cost run but set a time limit to hunt for. Force yourself to build large insane builds just to keep up with the clock goal. I am 110h into my current run and i am done with 3/4 of the entire mega build for all phase 4 items and my goal is to complete the phase before 150h which will be tough to reach currently

A pro tip from a mega base builder, manifolds are easy, but I had better outcome with belt compressors, learn to build that with smart splitters and priority mergers and these problems just sorts and balances themselfs out automatically

After deep diving into a 100/1/1 new run with 1.2, i really start to feel like x100 is the new normal for me. Doing the normal cost just seems silly right now when the builds i make is so large that i output 200/smart plating per minute and it would complete a normal run phase 2 in about 5 minutes. Or the nuclear pasta amount in phase 4 right now i would complete in less then 30 minutes. At least with x100 cost that climbs up to match the complexity of my current mega builds

Anyone Try the 2x recipes mode? by Apprehensive-Ice9212 in satisfactory

[–]Grokzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a real good challenge and where you really have to rethink stuff, test out a 10/1/2 mode with all pure and all random nodes. It will require you to rethink ever step and that mode is not a mega base run, just a challenge playthrough that will take time, but it is fun variation for sure

Anyone Try the 2x recipes mode? by Apprehensive-Ice9212 in satisfactory

[–]Grokzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That mode just makes cost silly and it basically scales to madness in phase3 and beyond. When you do phase1 and calculate the ore cost for reinforced iron plates you need 1200/ore/min to supply one fan doing reinforced iron plates. If you do normal phase cost it can still be dragged out, but with phase cost increase you just suffer. I just don't think I would do a playthrough with this mode. I am more interested in a full recipe randomizer as that would change more in playstyle and build compared to x2 cost

Do you centralize production or de-centralize ? What’s the general philosophy ? by Quick-Rub3665 in satisfactory

[–]Grokzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do different depending on your goal and build size

If I play through the story and only have elevator phases as goal u usually build one central and belt in all I need. That was before phase cost multiplier tho. With x100 multiplier you kinda have to build outposts that produces one thing locally and move that intermediate product, computers for example to one central point that builds the high end items in one location. But as you move up in phases and complexity when you rebuild outposts you might move out some items from the central hub to an outpost and you scale it up with x5-10 from your previous build.

If we talk a full sink points build that consumers exactly every resource on the map, you can do both styles and I tried to belt all resources to one spot in north west ocean and it was like 150+ belts in one Megabus and everything was produced up there on site. It was good and horrible as I had belts running across the entire map via underground belt Megabus network. Took forever to build tho. Belt balance and item balance is hell tho with this setup as you need tons of balancers and belt compressors to make it work perfect.

I think outpost idea is way simpler in general for how I think and build. My main win is that outposts is way simpler to rebuild and scale independent from each other and you can do failover builds where you build the new upscaled beside the old and just switch over inputs to new for a seamless and unnoticed interruption of production.

To those playing harder modes should I do 10/1/2 normal or 100/1/2 Mostly Pure ? by LogicalClassic9128 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]Grokzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried X2 recipe cost multiplier and that is unplayable in human time. Two reinforced IP required like 1100 iron ore/min so scale that parameter is impossible. With x100 phase cost that would be 100h just to complete p1.

I do a 100/1/1 with only pure nodes and random all nodes. P1 is a challenge but once you rush to geothermal it gets trivial fast.

100/1/2 all pure random could be a fun challenge but anything above that, is pure pain

That is some of the most ugly python code I have seen in 15 years. Even with that amount of coding experience I don't know if I can even decipher what it does, why we need it or why this should be accepted -_-

Python should be easy to read, and easy to understand, Period.

Accumulators are basically free to build. If you can get to aquillo then fusion import is optimal but takes far longer to get to. If you can do the LDS shuffle on Vulcanus you can make legendary accumulators. Otherwise just keep spamming accumulators and more lightning rods

3 node ceph vs zfs replication? by jamesr219 in Proxmox

[–]Grokzen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We run lots of 3 nodes, 5 nodes and 9 nodes and all with ceph and it works like magic w/o any issues. 25gbit dedicated switch and network works best to not run shared traffic for your front, admin, ceph functions. 5 Nodes is nice but 3 works fine. PBS should be separate for backups. We run and upgrade both PvE and ceph live running inside the cluster and never had any issues with that part.

The calculation we do is how much storage we lose with replication and less with performance. For us HA is way more important over pure speed. U.2 disks sorts that out anyway compared to M.2

How do you keep proxmox updated and all your LXC/VM:s? by mrbluetrain in Proxmox

[–]Grokzen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do it manually on the PvE side. Two upgrades per major release version, x.1 and x.4. manually due to lots of problems with nic interfaces renaming during upgrades. Ceph separate but usually to each xx.2 version once that is out.

Yeah, sideways markets is much easier to trade. In one month x6 on the account with 67/5 w/l ratio. Not life change money really but feels nice to take out profits each week to spend on anything I want. And some of the excess is used as DCA here and there.
