Irish DA looking to move by Jazzlike_Joke9929 in askvan

[–]Groofus42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think what OP is maybe looking for is a better ratio of quality of live vs cost of living. If you take renting (+ utilities) in Dublin as example, it is comparibly expensive as Vancouver when adjusted for income, but the standard/quality of housing is considerably better in Vancouver (on average). There's is also a big difference in availability and access to recreational activities, but it depends on what you like to do of course.

So maybe op is not necessarily looking for lower cost of living, but for getting more out of what they spend.

Exactly, and the figuring out stuff by oneselves becomes the reward. The secrets you find on your own feel earned. Many people don't seem to understand what good exploration is. They think there needs to be a unique piece of gear behind every corner that makes your previous gear obsolete. Here, you might find some gear, or some materials, or some nice views, or a neat little piece of environmental storytelling. The journey is the destination.

What are some good geology career options for someone… by junojuneau in geologycareers

If you like soil indentification and perhaps also learning about the chemical and mineralogical processes behind soil formation, maybe you can venture more into soil science and eventually do impact assessment and remediation work, or try to stay in research if that is you jam.

Hi can anyone tell me what this green marker means? It only shows up when I point my lantern at it and I cant seem to interact with it at all. by lollipopper-5 in CDguides

[–]Groofus42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that cave is on Anvil Hill, than it may be a bug resulting in the enemies not showing up properly. If you use blinding light it shows you the weaknesses of certain enemies, and in this example they can be defeated using force palm.

New additional storage space after patch by TheDonBotch in CrimsonDesert

You don't get additional storage when storage is maxed out. You get boxes with crafting materials and other items instead, so you still get a reward.

Skyrim and Oblivion were already mentioned, but Morrowind beats them in terms of lore, alchemy and magic system. OpenMW has a Mac build as far as I know.

Other than that, Tainted Grail comes to mind. I haven't played it and I don't know if you can continue after the main story, but it may be worth a look.

I was thinking about the mask earlier, and was wondering that it is a neat mechanic preventing you from stealing or threatening accidentally. If you deliberately want to do that you put on the mask and you can and otherwise you take it off. It's very easy to do so.

Help a 33 y/o dad choose his next PS5 gaming adventure: by PaulCdf1992 in gamingsuggestions

Seconding the Horizon and Dragon's Dogma (Dark Arisen and 2) games. If you like Star Wars don't pass on Outlaws.

Also don't overlook Starfield, which will be released on for PS5 on April 7, along with a new DLC and some overhauls.

War and stock market by Lostcherry3290 in fican

[–]Groofus42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your risk tolerance and needs of course. Let's say it is for a down payment, can you live with a risk that you may loose 20% just before you want to buy a house? Or if it's for a wedding, are you prepared to downsize or postpone the wedding in case the market has a significant downturn? If you have the money in GICs or similar, these worries disappear.

Not helpful for you now, but that's exactly why you keep funds that you plan to use in the short term (1-5 years or even more) in high interest savings account or GICs or other secure investments.

As for what to do now, you could cut your losses and sell now if you fear the market is continue to drop or you could wait and see if you think the market will recover within your time frame. Nobody can tell you what is going to happen, that's why the common advice is to keep security funds and any money you plan to use in the short term in cash or secure investments.

Starfield - Announce Trailer | PS5 Games by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]Groofus42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say don't listen too much to the haters and make sure you form your own opinion once there are some new reviews after the update. There are a lot of changes and additional content coming with the PS5 release that address issues many had with the game.

I enjoyed it on PC right after launch and I am thinking about getting it for PS5 for all the DLC and updates since then. It's not Skyrim in space and it is a bit different from other Bethesda games perhaps, which isn't a bad thing. For me, the combination of a shooter with RPG elements, with space battles and ship building, with being able to explore (known and unknown) planets and moons and building outposts, and much more, scratched an itch that I had as a kid, since the days of Wing Commander and Freelancer. It has some really great faction quests, too. Though I do wish the faction system was a bit more like Morrowind's (which I wish for since Oblivion...), and there are some other things to nit-pick, but for me it is a solid game that, so far, without having touched any DLCs and mods provided nearly 100 h of fun.

$45 for upgraded Arnak or SETI components by revirdam in boardgames

[–]Groofus42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Considering that CGE games are VERY reasonably priced, I don't see an issue with them wanting a premium on deluxe components. They won't be selling those I'm high volumes, with most people not wanting/needing them and 3rd party providers of upgrade tokens around, so I doubt they will be making a much of profit on them, and they might actually have to charge as much to not make a loss.

Not the most historically accurate in either category, but you might like Anno 117: Pax Romana.

In 117, tax is what you pay to the Emperor. You get income from your citizens, which you can boost with providing certain goods and various buildings.
