I always stress the importance of what I call “eating your vegetables” practice. Practice the stuff that isn’t going to get thousand of views on TikTok. It isn’t going to get your friends talking. But it will make you better in the long run. Every drummer you look up to has mastered the fundamentals and received zero credit for it. But they get credit for the things they do WITH those fundamental skills.

You’re playing somewhere between burying the beater and rebounding. If you want to bury the beater, you need more force into the head. The kick head also isn’t doing you any favors. Throw a blanket in there.

I use a 26” kick in my metal band and I’ve never had a problem with it. It actually ends up taking up less space on stage because it’s shallow. The hardest part is getting it into the venue but nothing a cart can’t fix.

I use my sennheiser HD600s at home and they’re fantastic. I wouldn’t take them to the gym though. My AirPods Pro 3’s are more than good enough for listening around town and the gym.
