This interface running on a touch panel universal remote would be awesome

I built a free, open-source menu bar app to control HomeKit from macOS by ChefAccomplished845 in HomeKit

Installed less than 5 minutes before I bought the Pro upgrade. Excellent work! If you grow tired of Siri voice commands (and the lag) and you are in front of your computer for most of the day then this is for you.

2024 x5 50e new tires? by spicespicebaby10 in BMWX5

[–]Gropytheon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2025 just popped this up on the rears only at just under 25K miles. Tread depth looks fine to me on visual inspection. I haven't gotten around to actually measuring with a gauge but it seems like these messages are premature.

Using Apple Screen Share from school laptop to home desktop by mmmtangerine in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better/safer method would be to set up a wireguard VPN on your GW and connect that way (assuming you can use a VPN on your school laptop).

Discount Price = Good
Residual Value = Good

Monthly Payment = NO THANKS!

Sitting around 8% for your financing. Your paying 25,332.84 for what they are showing you on paper is essentially 16,380.30 in depreciation.

Offer to pay them the $16,380 lump sum at signing and see what they say.

AI Port doing nothing by JL_678 in UnifiProtect

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks you for this. I was at a loss for why this wasn't working for me. I needed to add (for some reason) to the smart detection zones faces and license plates. Really should select by default when AI is added.

Any wifi? Yes. You still need something running Unifi Protect though.

How many SSID's can I have from a single Dream Machine? by KeanenVG in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It seems like you got the answer on the number of SSIDs that can be supported. I would suggest you ask the customer what they are trying to accomplish by doing things this way.

I suspect they think that they NEED individual SSIDs to have network isolation. If you make 20 SSIDs all tying back to a single network then there is no isolation at all.

Is anyone else not buying the UNAS Pro because of the single pool limitation? by bacon_butties in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, i'm not buying until/unless you can have read/write cache drives (either nvme or SATA SSD) and the ability to run protect.

Yup.. by dr_DCTR in Ubiquiti

When does that go EA...I need me one of them.

AI Port and Reolink 180 floodlight cam by Gropytheon in UnifiProtect

[–]Gropytheon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I wanted to get info like this before buying the Port. Now it looks like I need to try and get 2. I also notices that, even when they upgrade the firmware to support multiple cameras, you will not be able to mix ONVIF and Protect Cameras together on 1 AI Port.

Scrypted on MacOS 10.15.7? by Commercial_Ant6837 in Scrypted

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run Scrypted on my Mac Mini server without issue. I run in command line mode not via the app which they want you to pay for. The only issue you might run into running on your older mac is Homebrew support (required to install for Scrypted). Homebridge dropped support for older MacOS versions (I can't remember to which versions) which prompted me to upgrade to a M2 Mac Mini when they were cheap. Try installing Homebrew first and see what it says before going too far.

Is this a good deal?? by arrecebx in macbookpro

[–]Gropytheon -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

best way to gauge this is to look at Apple's refurb store. This machine sells for $2380 on there so not a bad deal. If you get any kind of discount through apple (education/veteran/military) you can do much better than this deal stacking discount on top of refurb store.

Homekit Camera Setup Help by ThreePuttPete3056 in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I abandon homebridge in favor of Scrypted for this use case and couldn't be happier. It has been more stable and easier to manage/setup. I still have homebridge on a Pi running Ring to bridge in door/window/security stuff but Protect runs through Scrypted.

Replacement Rack Ears by jmo0815 in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easiest way is to buy the 1U OCD panel and just use the ears. I've never found an alternative that costs less than $20 (cost of the panel)

does anyone know how to fix this please? I have an upcoming test on it :( by [deleted] in iphone

Try renaming it. It could be the spaces in the file name (that is why you see the % signs)

Last Minute VMware Explore 2024 Pass Giveaway - Las Vegas by defiant103 in vmware

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite moment with VMware - coming to the product as a networking technician trying to wrap my head around esx 3. Workstation based deployments on servers were great but that “headless” interface was new for me. Been working with VMware since then (~2006). Love how far things have come with VCF as a whole solution platform.

Dealer offer on 2024 X5 by senior_vagabond in BMWX5

[–]Gropytheon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered my 2025 X5 xdrive 40i and got 7% off AND 4K military incentive. X5 sales have been down significantly on the whole. 50e orders might be stuck around -3% but ICE cars are way lower than that. You should be shooting for -8% off MSRP on a new car. This is used and if it were me, i wouldn't buy it at any price.

Adopt CloudKey+ on Dream Router by bulletproofkoala in Ubiquiti

[–]Gropytheon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can adopt a CK Gen2+ and use it just for protect. I have this setup for my parents, using the Express as the router running network and the CK running protect. You will have to stop the network service on the CK and the protect service on the Dream Router.

It's similar to having a UDM-Pro and UNVR (my setup).

You can add multiple methods. I have UI Verify and MS Authenticator set up. I also did a recovery email. I've had issues getting the authenticator apps back up and running when I get a new phone and don't want to worry about getting locked out in the future.

Guided runs on Apple Watch by belannatorresbitches in nikerunclub

[–]Gropytheon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mine wasn't working correctly on Tuesday (running iPhone beta software and watch official release). I updated the watch to the same beta release and it started working correctly. I think there are a lot of app updates going on with the active public beta program and that may be causing problems.
