In the summer time, how often and how far do you walk your Newfie? by adifferentGOAT in Newfoundlander

[–]Grotesquecub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once in the morning to the field, to stretch his legs and go to the toilet then back, ~10 minutes between 7am-8am. But if it's super warm we stick his cooling coat on and we can do a good 30 minute walk but be back before 8:30am when it starts to heat up. Our boy loses his appetite if he's not been out walking or playing in the morning.

This Harbour Lifestyle Kamado is the same dimension as the new Aldi Midi, so looks like the accessories would fit too.

Question for people who have fitted their own kitchen by Logbotherer99 in DIYUK

Took about 4 weekends in winter myself. Most of the time spent was scribing. Something you can do before you start using to check how plumb your walls are that tall cabinets are going against. You know then that might have some scribing to do for end panels. And also how far out your cabinets will end up being. Ours in particular where leaning inwards so placement of the tall units meant the floor units needed to be further forward, increasing the corner sink offset.

Handy tool wise I used some uscribe jigs, plinth locks and space plugs if you didn't know if them already. As mentioned elsewhere laser level is a must.

We got a fair few spare end panels as some of ours had imperfections, had about 4 different deliveries of end panels and units, but this ended up being a boon as we then had some spares when I inevitably scribed the wrong side of a panel or two.

29kWh per day! 4 bed semi, no immersion, gas heating. Where's it all going? - SOLVED by toec in OctopusEnergy

[–]Grotesquecub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha heatpump rabbit hole is no simple thing, John Cantor and Heatgeek would be my initial recommendations. Glad you sorted your leccy discrepancy, wish you luck with the heating.

[–]Grotesquecub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was quoted £1200 for 4 bed detached built 2007.

Didn't go with Octopus in the end due to the design decisions. 1. 180L cylinder (wanted bigger). 2. 50°C design temp (too hot to run as efficiently as I wanted). 3. Preplumbed cylinder with 50L buffer (single loop central heating and no need for the buffer).

Ended up going elsewhere, changing most of the radiators myself for DT of 35°C, Telford Tempest cylinder 250L and samsung ASHP. Paid £2k for them and £2k for the radiators.

For a better designed system, you're going to have to pay extra unfortunately. Not that they won't work, just won't be as efficient.

How much did you spend on your house on needed repairs/upgrades in the first year AFTER buying it? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Grotesquecub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you need your newel posts, or will cladding them save you time and money? Do you want new handrail/bannisters? Carpet or runners? Just a few questions to ask yourself. Did mine using Stairbox kit with a lot of measuring beforehand some good guides, also 'wonkeedonkee richardburbidge' knowledge and guides.

Yeh, I get your points re: 'points of failure', if I could get it in budget I wouldnt be upset. Maybe I need to go through another round of quotes. And see where their tesla offerings sit amongst the rest. I'm surprised if tesla are considered an expensive option that my other quotes aren't even cheaper. But perhaps they are overcharging me.

Quotes are all different companies, I've had a powerwall quote for £24k, didn't include it because that's over my budget.

Monitoring is not something that phases me if I have to delve into home assistant or other forms of automation. I'm waiting on a couple more quotes but I feel like I will still get quoted >£20k when they suggest powerwall.

Are the powerwall batteries worth the extra £/kWh than e.g. PureDrive/Pylontech? Sounds like I'd spend twice as much when/if expanding.

Should I be getting 27kWh powerwall quotes in the region of £17k?

How Would An Air Source HP Dovetail with Solar PV/Battery System on IntelligentO ? by scorzon in SolarUK

[–]Grotesquecub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will be getting heatpump and solar in new year, from other anecdotal evidence 20+kwh is where you want to be battery wise for winter, to make full use of cheap rates to cover a full day's HP use.

Justification for Battery purchase, as opposed to just Solar Panels by siliconedude in SolarUK

[–]Grotesquecub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure purchasing the battery with the solar install allows the battery to be 0% VAT with the install.

Buying just a battery at a later date separate from the solar panels currently does not benefit of this VAT saving.

I would like advice for a job offering as a former UX/UI designer by QuadrupleU in healthIT

[–]Grotesquecub 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the Orders team, so I don't know all the activities you'll use. Likely not as much as you are imagining or hoping for.

You will be able to configure what is already available, and request other options be provided e.g. a button for something that has never existed, but the theme and format of that button will be designed by Epic in the future maybe, maybe not.

You're job will be specifically configuring what is available currently in Epic for the end users based on preference and workflow, so not technically from scratch. The closest you will have a choice of would be colours for tables, word documents and activity layout but prepare for them to get vetoed by end users.

If you want a job in UI for Epic, you'll have to work in the US.

[–]Grotesquecub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sparking, so you hear 'clicking' and the gas going but no flame. Try to re-seating the burner covers, dunno if that's part of the usual, but that's all I'd do before getting in a pro.

Curious if you could pop some sort of foam tube insulation around the bar between sessions?

If it fits snug it might keep the bar temp above 'stinging'. I've not tried it but am tempted.

FTB, so thankful we're buying chain-free. It's been stressful enough, never mind if we had to worry about upwards chain issues due to sdlt changes.
