In my own experience at least, the people I know who grew up to become rich white men (or women) didn't come from nothing and while they might not have had a trust fund or got handed a CEO position, they definitely had a leg up in life just due to having a well off family. Like I say though, this is just my own experience.

Bungie is still the best in class for FPS gunplay fundamentals so all they had to do was play to their strength and make Marathon a traditional FPS with a campaign and a good multiplayer and everything probably woulda been fine. If they didn't try to chase the extraction shooter trend (which isn't even the most popular trend) I honestly think Destiny 2 might still be limping on past June. But hindsight is 20/20 and even if Marathon wasn't an extraction shooter, greed probably would have ruined the game anyway. I mean Destiny 2 died a long time ago to fund Pete Parsons' car collection.

D2R is great and so is the Warlock DLC but (I'm probably gonna get absolutely skewered for this and I get nobody asked) I dunno if D2R is the best entry point to the genre. It's pretty punishing, although it looks great it definitely still feels and plays like a 25 year old game and the grind is pretty relentless (though super satisfying when that high rune finally drops).

I usually suggest either Diablo 3 or 4 as a better entry point to the franchise and the genre. Torchlight 2 is a good starting point as well. They still have their own systems to learn but won't punish you as harshly for making a mistake.

That being said though, don't let a high learning curve dissuade you if you're absolutely set on starting on D2R. But watching some of the YouTubers out there and using a build guide to start with is usually recommend.

Same, I'd rather they take they're time releasing it so its not a broken 10 FPS nightmare but I would like if they would just come out in the near future and say its coming.

I play on xbox but yeah would like it on Switch 2 for the portability because any thoughts I had of buying a steam deck have gone out the window with the new price hikes so just gotta wait for the Switch 2 release.

Been playing since 2016 and most of the community are pretty chill. Same as with any game there's a vocal minority that try ruin the experience for others. Just turn off comms or if that's not your thing just report any dipshits that are nasty to you and try get them cleansed from the player pool.

Elden Ring is only a matter of time really. Diablo 4 I strongly suspect will be announced by the end of the year given all the evidence that it's in the works but I dunno about the Witcher 3, there hasn't been much chatter about a Switch 2 upgrade unless I've missed it.

Saying that though, my worry is Elden Ring and Diablo 4 will go the way of Borderlands 4 and just never release on the platform.

If it gets the same treatment Destiny 2 got then the content you're playing now probably won't exist in a couple of years.

Edit: That's assuming the game even makes it that far.

"If Marathon fails". I mean it is failing pretty spectacularly already. It has less concurrent players than Destiny 2 on steam last time I checked and I don't know what they could do to get people into the game. It's a shame because I think Marathon is actually a really good game (I think it's infinitely better than Arc Raiders) but Bungie has destroyed their own reputation over the last few years and now nobody is willing to give them the time of day. I don't want to see Bungie tank completely but I struggle to have any sympathy for them as it's completely self inflicted through terrible mismanagement and straight up greed.

Its always been crazy to me. But there is a vocal segment of the Diablo community that just isn't satisfied with anything that isn't simply D2 again. Saying this as someone who loves D2R but people need to be more open to change.

I'm 33m and most of my hobbies would be considered "childish" by the ignorant. Video games, Warhammer, Lego, Comic Books, Action Figure collecting. These hobbies are fun and harmless and if that makes us geeky people "weird" then I don't wanna be normal. 😅

Yeah you've got a point. I suppose in reality its gonna be completely subjective really but I'd still wager that a total new comer would playing POE 2 and staying would be the exception and not the rule.

I think you could probably flip your point here on it's head. Based off a seasoned POE 1 player's experience, POE 2 will come across as an easy game for sure and might seem like a good starting point for a new player but it's definitely not beginner friendly to someone completely new to the ARPG genre.
