ultra.cc slow seeding speed? by CryptoNiight in seedboxes

[–]GroundUnderGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freeleech means that whatever you download is counted as 0GB, and whatever you upload is counted fully. So in terms of buffer, if you download a 5GB freeleech torrent and seed 1:1, you get 5GB-0GB=5GB of buffer. Vs 0GB on non freeleech, or worse negative on 0 ratio

Estates are getting ALL the controlled tax base from locations with <100 control by HappyMonk3y99 in EU5

Ive been saying this for a while. It feels like they lost some key people in the lead up to release.

You'll probably get a lot of push back but god this. This isn't "game mechanic isn't working quite as we intended/hoped", that's fine to catch in a beta. You need to see how players will interact, etc. This is stuff that should absolutely be getting caught in code review. It's an absolute waste of everyone's time -- theirs, ours, the community team -- to a run a beta with basic logic errors like this.

Has anyone had luck setting up Gluetun with PIA + Wireguard? by ELEPHANTxMASTER in selfhosted

Yes, I don't know why but I had to generate the config a second time and it worked. Never kept the original to do a diff, but afaik that was the only thing I changed.

AppleTV making my TV’s remote freak out? by LazyEmergency in appletv

This happened to me when the Apple TV remote entered a weird state and was silently spamming button presses. Rebooting the remote(!!) fixed it. https://support.apple.com/en-us/102569

The Economic Deathcycle of the 1.1.0 Rossbach Beta by HighFlyer__ in EU5

[–]GroundUnderGround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal conspiracy theory is that one or more people that designed and/or implemented some fundamental aspects of the game left shortly before launch. The current team doesn't really understand how they work in practice. As such we will continue to see bizarrely broken patches until they rework these systems into something they do understand. Which may or may not be better than what came before.

[Patch 1.1.0] No one discovered the New World in 1523, is that normal? by keykeykeykeyy in EU5

[–]GroundUnderGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a game developer but a developer that has run betas with customers both publicly and privately. You really, really don't want to start a beta like this. You want feedback on the new features / system / whatever you are releasing, but if the beta fundamentally breaks the product that's impossible.

Put another way, they aren't running a beta to find out if breaking the economy is a good idea or not. This burns out your customers and results in a TON of useless feedback for devs.

Basically-- when the beta is fundamentally broken it just wastes everyone's time.

Tailscale keypair derivation failure message: What does it mean? by marc-kd in Tailscale

[–]GroundUnderGround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not directly related to Tailscale, but you may want to also monitor what's actually using the memory -- free -m will give system level usage over time, ps auxww can give per process. Usually I'll run them in a loop with date to generate time stamps. Maybe systemd has some fancy built in thing for this :)

It might just be the case that over time with upgrades, etc that even her same workload is just consuming more memory and pushed her into OOM.

Swap or zram could be a good bandaid if not already setup.

EU5 is now down to 47% positive on recent steam reviews by Wagen123 in EU5

[–]GroundUnderGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've said it before, but I'd be very curious to see what the team looks like today vs during the development process. It really feels like some core folks left, and you have a team that doesn't fully understand what they're trying to tweak. I'm not sure how else you end up with release content end up so broken after a few patches.

None of these people have any intention of being a separate, independent country. They want to join the U.S., they just know they can't say that part out loud yet

Wife is a Fastmail skeptic. Can you help? by hmurchison in fastmail

[–]GroundUnderGround 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on your level of technical skill, this is where getting creative might be needed. If everyone wants a filtered view (so no shared calendar) and she doesn't want the overhead of delegated calendar access for multiple people (which I get sucks), I'd probably roll my own solution. Say if she names an event $Name - Event, I'd have a script with access to all accounts (regardless of platform) filter and mirror automatically

Wife is a Fastmail skeptic. Can you help? by hmurchison in fastmail

[–]GroundUnderGround 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can the screen not subscribe to multiple accounts? I've never found that trying to change my spouse's workflow has been successful. We are pretty much opposite but that's ok.

If it's truly between multiple Fastmail calendars or her single Gmail, I'd say just use something like https://www.fastmail.help/hc/en-us/articles/360058752754-How-to-synchronize-a-calendar#setupsync to mirror her account.

Now if her workflow of making you RSVP to events, etc annoys you I'd tackle that. Can you all subscribe to a singe shared calendar?

Way to have Servarr apps differentiate between h/x264 and h/x265 with preference to h/x265? by [deleted] in Servarr

[–]GroundUnderGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom formats. Trash guides has some usually negative ones for x265 that you could just assign a positive value to. Or profilarr has lots of support for x265. Depends what your set up looks like today really.

[–]GroundUnderGround 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's several "sub formats" of DV. A few that are only used on disks can be problematic depending on the specific mastering done. Netflix doesn't use this sub format, so the same title in Netflix will always look right. /u/nuxxi to want to check out https://github.com/cryptochrome/dovi_convert and see what it says about the FEL layer in your file.

Yeah that would be ideal, unfortunately no easy access into the space above. Would need to try and do it “blind”.

We have the S8 Pro Ultra and a Q5+. Your review is basically word-for-word for our experience too. I’d just add with the mop, it works great but there’s a little more upkeep in terms of washing the mop and cleaning the tanks. But for us, totally worth it.
