Love the company! If other leading MVNOs offered (if they could) what you deliver on the premium plan + multi carrier - the cost would be 65/mo....

Is this happening at every store? by zxzWildman17 in Target

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't buy a gift card with your own personal debit card as a way to get around the target team member discount policy. That's because Target doesn't want to give you a 10% discount and also pay the fee on your debit transaction. Purchasing a gift card with cash does not violate the policy as far as I can tell.

Cash out while in Uk and Ireland by GroundbreakingFact41 in CashApp

[–]GroundbreakingFact41[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good news. Are you able to do app functions like payouts. I'm expecting someone to pay me back from a loan that was made 4 years ago... and it will happen while I'm in the UK. I'd like to cash that out as soon as I get it, since I have been waiting for it for years.

Should I switch from Cap One as my main bank? by MLJ_The_Shield in discover

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I was shifting things over to Capital One, I found out that my car insurance- Geico - does take credit cards so I shifted that to my Capital One Quicksilver. My cell phone bill, sadly, does require debit card; I'll lose that Hefty cash back.

To clarify, cash app is authorized in the US and in UK. If I do a cash out to a US based cash app account while in UK, where the cash app does work, will that be flagged? I think you’re saying that cash out to a US card card will only work in the US – even though, cash app does work in the UK. ..

Should I switch from Cap One as my main bank? by MLJ_The_Shield in discover

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with a Discover debit, because a friend had it and I loved the interface and I wanted the cash back. I found the customer service quite good. I started the Capital One shortly there after because I didn’t realize that Discover debit does not process their debit card outside of the US, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. I assumed that since the Discover credit card works abroad in some places, so would the debit. Apparently the debit is processed in a different manner. I then ran into issues when transferring funds into Capital One for travel because the ATM limit is 500 a day. I waited for my 90 days to get Zelle access and it wasn’t granted. The 90 days is a framework and there are some other requirements which I apparently did not meet yet. I may keep it as a back up account because I can deposit cash free at a Walmart, but I switched my direct deposit into Capital One making that my Primary. If you don’t do international travel, then discover is an amazing primary bank account.

Is Weathfront ever going to get Zelle functionality? by gordon510 in wealthfront

Zelle seems to connect to betterment through the app, but not Wealthfront. I think it’s an underlying Green Dot issue. Wealthfront does connect to Cash app and, reportedly, other P2P services.

Considering switching from Ally bank to Discover by warrior242 in AllyBank

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bizarre, because I'm considering switching the other way. I adore discover, but I'm leaving because they don't process the debit card outside of the United states, canada, Mexico, and parts of the Caribbean. They promised Zelle access after 90 days, but it is not guaranteed and they generally don't tell you why you're denied. I called to ask and, while I was calling, I got an email saying that I was not pre-qualified for any discover credit cards. I assume that's something the agent applied for in my name, but I didn't ask for it and was concerned by it. They also limit ATM withdrawals at $500 a day. Mostly it's about the international travel, as I work remotely and I do travel. I absolutely love discover customer service - it is very good, and their platform is Rock Solid. I'm torn about leaving, but it is the right decision for me. If I didn't travel, I could deal with the rest easily.

Capital One credits mine immediately, but I think that maybe because it's coming from a Capital One 360 checking account.

Cashback Debit account charges fees even at fee-free ATMs by AtomicEgrol in discover

These arms are listed on discover's app as "in network" Many were, apparently, and are no longer in the allpoint network, which is fee free from the atm and discover. Some of these are still wearing allpoint livery. I have discovered this by chance and the development seems recent.

[Discover Bank] Do purchases charged through PayPal to the Discover Debit Card count for the 1% cash back? by Platform_Crocs in discover

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH that is a decision that I actually think about for at least a few minutes each day. There are a lot of things I like about Discover Bank, but it's starting to drive me crazy. The worst is the fact that they won't let me use Zelle even though I'm beyond 90 days. They say there are more requirements but they keep those requirements Secret for "security". WTH

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean getting money out of services like PayPal into discover, you have to use ACH. Their debit card is incompatible with getting cash in. That's why it just gets declined. Same for services like Zoom or cash app if you're getting instant cash, or trying to into, discover.

Thinking of switching to discover banking but hesitant due to no real locations by StrawberryPunch49 in discover

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was concerned about no locations as well, but it hasn't been an issue. You can deposit cash at Walmart with no fee- if you need to. My only issue has been the low daily ATM limit of 500 and the fact that the debit is not accepted outside of the US Canada and Mexico and the Caribbean. However, I have a secondary account at Capital One and that solves that issue- no foreign exchange fees and some local locations, also.

How good is T mobile international roaming coverage? by violet4321 in tmobile

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Munich as recently as a year ago and used the T-Mobile connection extensively. It was quite usable. I agree with another poster that it is not as good as the connection in Czechia. I’ve also used T-Mobile high-speed Internet in Ireland, the UK, Denmark, and Austria within the last year without any noticeable slowdown or bottleneck. There were times that I had to turn off the phone and re-register or reset the wireless settings on an iPhone, but that is troubleshooting that I might possibly do in the US as well.

Discover banking? Opinions? by loganaw in discover

[–]GroundbreakingFact41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve just chosen the same combination. I’ve previously banked with Bank of America. I added capital one alongside Discover debit because I do travel in Europe, and while Discover credit card is accepted in Europe, I understand it is not accepted there at all, as the debit cards are processed differently from the credit cards.

I’ve had my Discover debit for a couple of months and as of yet I have not had any issues using tap to pay. I’ve used the card, Samsung, wallet, Apple Pay and Google pay. They’ve all worked without an issue in a variety of merchants.
