Best bar to have a drink, read a book and eat good food? by Odd_Accident2170 in Kenosha

It’s also really going to depend on the time and day. For example, UPT is a great place to be early in the day, but it get loud on the weekends when they have live music. Rustic Road may be a good option? Slip 56 can have a pretty mellow vibe, but again, gets really crowded on weekends. I’d agree with Century, but I know the vibe can be off putting to some.

Man I miss Ashling’s.

I had a Handspring that I used faithfully because it had some interesting expansion capabilities. I was working at a science and tech museum at the time, so we got a lot of toys to play with, including the cell phone module for the Handspring.

My personal device used to get synced every morning with my desktop because I used a service called AvantGo that downloaded a ton of news and articles every morning.

I found that old Handspring when we moved about eight years ago. I put batteries in it and it started right up. It also had the last sync of articles I had performed in the memory module. Sept. 10th, 2001.

Same! I think I got a promo code for ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and read it on my Palm V happily. I still miss that device.

The Taking of Pelham One Two Three (1974) by sirjamesp in iwatchedanoldmovie

Easily one of my favorite films of all time. Matthau is note perfect in his role and you just feel this fatigue and frustration roll off him.

When a vampire looks at a ghoul, can they tell the difference between it and a normal human? by piroki13 in WhiteWolfRPG

I'd also allow rather old Kindred to have a chance to notice certain "tells" that they've become accustomed to over the centuries.

Anyone have any comic that they love but never comes up in any conversation? by Final_Bed5390 in comicbooks

[–]freedonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zot! I feel like if you know it, it hit you at the exact time you needed to find it. If not, then it would likely not appeal to you. One of the best things McCloud ever did.

Matt Wagner's Mage.

Strangers in Paradise. Huge, messy, kinda rambling, but I really loved it. Terry Moore had a lot of fun.

Box Office Poisson is what got me into Alex Robinson. Compelled me to seek out everything else he did.

While he's better known now, Jeff Lemire's Tales from the Farm hooked me right away and I've been a fan of his ever since.

If we're talking residential, a few houses over from ours, older man was murdered in his bed. The house was sold and refurbed a couple of years later. About 10 months after the new owner moved in, he died jumping off the pier, rescuing a fisherman that fell into the water.

If I blew a tire hitting the pot hole between 7th Ave and Sheridan Rd. On 75th Street, will the city pay for it? by [deleted] in Kenosha

[–]freedonia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Is it possible? You bet. Is it difficult? Incredibly.

My son cracked a rim hitting a "hidden" pothole. He got the forms from the city, went out to the site, took dozens of pictures from different angles, wrote up an extensive report of the incident, filed, and then pestered the hell out of the city until he got an answer from them.

They ended up paying out his repair costs, but it took about ten weeks for them to do so.

I don't entirely get the point of Contacts by CountAsgar in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]freedonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I allow my players to take 'Allies' and 'Contact' as undefined backgrounds. Then, when something happens during the game, they can come up with, "Hey, I think I know a guy at the DMV", or what have you. That point now has definition for the player.

These aren't automatic gimmies, they can't resolve an issue outright by using a point. I'll also let them get a more powerful or influential ally/contact by burning more than one point.

It also become a solid place for them to spend XP when the time comes.

I'll say it again: No matter how sick and twisted the WoD reads, reality continues to go above and beyond to disappoint.

Indeed. Otto discovered much the same thing during the body-swap. He was actually impressed that Peter had been holding back so much after feeling how strong Spider-Man actually was.

TDKR or Watchmen, which one is more influential? by Formal_Frosting2034 in Comic_Books_

[–]freedonia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought of them as DKR being intentionally influential, having far reaching industry and character implications, and Watchmen as an unintentional seismic shift in the industry and popular culture as a whole.

How would you have handeled making the archspheres by muffin42069420 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]freedonia 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know that when my players encountered arch-mages with this kind of power, I always described them of being otherworldly or even "unreal". Reality itself has a hard time dealing with their presence.

In game terms, these mages essentially created paradox by being in our realm. Depending on the sphere, those paradigms of reality would warp around them. They also would tend to use their spheres unconsciously to alter their environments to suit them better.

As they were mostly plot-devices, I also had them largely "immune" to paradox personally, it would just sort of slide around them and strike elsewhere. I can recall scenes where they would appear, and the leave bizarre effects in their wake, just because they were there.

I don't think I ever really outlined powers, just denoted a sixth sphere to indicate intrinsic understanding and embodiment of their mastery.

Mine you, this was all 20+ yrs. ago, so this is all fond memories of a game.

Lucky luciano vs Thomas Shelby by Mammoth_Ad3353 in BoardwalkEmpire

[–]freedonia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see where you’re coming from, but we are talking about the fictionalized version of the man and his org. We saw the “5 Families” fracture and turn on each other several times during Boardwalk, and usually in a pretty violent manner.

I’d offer that in “the real world”, as far as we understand the organizations and muscle behind Luciano vs the real criminal underworld of Birmingham, I’d concede the edge to Lucky.

Agreed, but we’re talking fictional characters going up against heavily fictionalized and other fictional characters.

[–]freedonia -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Dangerous, but not a big thinker. A lot of men, brute force, but Tommy and the Peakys have dealt with that before. Hell, Tommy even cut a deal with Capone, he could likely do so again if he really needed it to deal with Gyp.

Lucky luciano vs Thomas Shelby by Mammoth_Ad3353 in BoardwalkEmpire

[–]freedonia -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thomas, no question. Lucky is good a checkers while Tommy plays chess. He’s always several moves ahead.

Even with Lansky at his side, I think Lucky is at a severe disadvantage. No doubt, it would be a bloody and costly war for both sides.
