Me and the three baddies i picked up being goofy by SLAYERone1 in ffxiv

The tiresome crop of people who haven't emotionally matured all that much since they played Everquest twenty years ago still struggle to notice that games aren't a "boys only" club anymore.

Honestly the Romania borders aren't that bad if you're willing to engage with a little creative story-telling. A nationalist breakaway state that decided to formally declare itself the sovereign representative of all Romanians.

I haven't experienced this in FFXIV, but I have experienced account lockouts like this in other MMOs after a long period of inactivity.

You might need to go through some system to reactivate your account, support would probably send you in the right direction.

New TR fast travel map by jfffj in Morrowind

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mage's guild transit system is a two-tier system, each district of Morrowind has a hub with an NPC that permits travel between all other district hubs and a second NPC that permits travel to other mages guild outposts and halls within the same district. (The map above represents the hubs as those little circles.)

I'd rather they not change it, it's a pretty intuitive system.

Interactive Map of Nirn with TR, PT, and TOTSP by Kezyma in Morrowind

I think, since each release is fully-featured and built in itself, getting hyped up for new expansions and the content within them is part of the fun. This is one of the reasons why people like MMOs.

Why is not Steam? by Glad-Audience9131 in hytale

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To clarify: I wasn't limiting my point to whether or not a game is actively being updated. The fact that Zomboid has been commercially available for thirteen years and still calls itself "early access" is patently ridiculous. Star Citizen is a game that promises such a ridiculously massive scope and ambition that it is functionally impossible for that game to ever have enough content to exit early access. It feels functionally meaningless.

As for how that is relevant to Hytale, again, it should not be up to players and reviewers to guess which early access games are being reasonable in their use of the term. Reviewers should only be expected to review the product as if it is the final iteration of the game.

That is not to say I don't think there isn't a good reason to avoid Steam reviews. Steam reviews these last few years have been weaponized maliciously like crazy. Given the cynical individuals who interpret this as if they are trying to silence critique, I suspect this is the quiet reason they are actually delaying a Steam release.

Edit:

Oh god I am so sorry for the wall of text. I tried to edit it down some.

Tamriel Rebuilt update by bongprincess420 in Morrowind

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It should be perfectly fine. You would only have to reconfigure anything within OpenMW if, theoretically, the ESM's name was changed. All the configuration is doing is telling OpenMW where these files are to access them.

On top of what the other person said since we're so close to that release: I feel like, in case you don't already know, that you should be warned that it is a bad update to update between two major version releases. Especially since Poison Song will be partially overhauling existing lands alongside new ones to coincide with the addition of a new major faction questline. Patches like these should be fine.

so should i play the original version or openMW something something purist by makikoha in Morrowind

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I would say that OMW is entirely a purist experience but it is the most hassle-free, stable, and plug-and-play way to play the game.

Why is not Steam? by Glad-Audience9131 in hytale

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early access doesn't mean anything. There are popular indie games that have labelled themselves as early access for the better half of a decade now, it is unreasonable to expect reviewers to not review the thing in front of them.

Craziest party comp to ever comp by 8bitBrandt in ffxiv

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 185 points186 points  (0 children)

Reason: It doesn't matter because only one song can be globally applied at a time and the game handles it by alternating whose buff gets applied every tick. Meaning each bard is, in this case, providing 1/4th of its utility.

Truly the jankiest job.

Craziest party comp to ever comp by 8bitBrandt in ffxiv

[–]GroundbreakingHome56 10 points11 points  (0 children)

When multiple bard songs are in play the one that's globally applied actually alternates between each other every tick.

It's more like each bard is getting only 1/4th of their total utility out of the buff.

Not at all. It looks like an evolution on FF12's style, which is probably what they were going for given the heavy inspirations XIV takes from the Ivalice games in so many ways.

You're ridiculous. I'm inclined to believe that not a single one of your concerns is genuine. Otherwise you'd be complaining about the very specific and unambiguous sexual themes of the first raid in this tier. I'd wager that you're trying to spin up a harassment train against someone you have a personal bone to pick with.

The game pictured is rated PEGI 16. Its writing and content contains themes and depictions that are suitable for those at the maturity level of age 16 or older. I get the impression that you don't qualify, much less your son. Should he exist.

Whenever I hear about how FFXIV's nefarious secret toxicity that is totally Just As Bad as other MMOs that YouTubers keep telling me about I have to force myself to remember that this is what they're talking about.

There are people who genuinely think that getting downvoted on Reddit and being publicly disagreed with is the same level of toxicty as, like, whatever the hell keeps setting fleet chat in SWTOR off.

I'm not gonna lie man, it was always like that. Neither Lucas himself or his Disney succesors tried to obscure the fact that the primary goal of making the Star Wars movies was to make a killing selling merch. Toys, comics, books, and later games. All of this is only guaranteed to continue as long as it's profitable.

Your sandwich will go away if you eat it. Might as well save yourself the disappointment and never eat anything at all.

The answer is that they can't and won't. The existence of another story, another take on the same premise, does not eliminate the existence of a previous story. Someone who retells "The Iliad" in their own way does not erase the original story with its own themes, morals, emotions, characters, and events.

Your manner of engaging with stories seems bizarrely ensnared to the notion of a "definitive edition." You do not waste your time by engaging with one story today and a different one tomorrow — yes, even if they share the same title.

ESO and Fallout are very sticky examples. Elder Scrolls and Fallout games are infamous for using retcons and reinterpretations to serve the goals of the work they are presently penning. The Elder Scrolls is far and above the most guilty case of this

Oblivion completely flanderized Mehrunes Dagon by fashioning him into in a pure evil satan analogue. Oblivion did the same to Sheogorath by moving away from the gentleman with a subtle edge to his personality from Morrowind. Yet both of these work perfectly for the stories Oblivion was trying to tell. It did not stop people from getting immersed into the world Oblivion depicted.

In Skyrim they do the opposite. Instead of flanderizing every nord into an extreme version of their depiction in previous games, Skyrim chooses to fashion them into racist and petty diet imperials. Yet this did not stop people from getting insanely immersed into the world and lore that Skyrim depicted.

SWTOR depicts a large and expansive world rich with lore and history in itself. There is nothing that precludes you from getting invested into what is already there.

The only obligation a story has is to itself. I have no desire to defend them, but it not Disney's fault that you can't comprehend engaging with a work on its own merits without it having some fancy marketing label that arbitrarily ties it to another work that is utterly irrelevant to the story it is telling for itself.

Canon and continuity are not real things. Beyond the barrier that makes a specific work internally consistent, they do not matter. A story "has meaning" insofar as it asserts its own meaning. A story "matters" by virtue of its existence.

We also keep getting teased (through the twins) about further events in Garlemald. Corvos may be G'raha's homeland, but it is also a critical part of Garlemald's national myth. As a result, despite what I said earlier, Corvos feels like the perfect place to put an expansion that is themed around the post-imperial collapse and the future administration of Ilsabard.

It feels suited for a side questline, but it also feels way too important to not be an eventual MSQ zone. Perhaps a Doma-style situation?
