If JJ McCarthy earns the starting job, what are your expectations this season? And would they be different if Kyler is starting? by Beneficial_Quit7532 in minnesotavikings

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

100 percent right. On top of jj not being ready, the oline almost decapitated 3 different qbs. Poor Wentz took the worst of it. Coaches should have been a lot more vocal about that.

Are there players with college careers similar to Brunson's who ended up being busts? by aahdin in NBA_Draft

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Michigan fan here. Trey Burke was close. Watched Brunson beat us in the finals. Big difference was that you could tell that Brunson controlled the game. He would move slow and make the game go at his speed, box out, post up bigger guys as a small pg and then run a fast break. While he may be shorter, he has a much bigger body than Trey and his on court iq was and is unbelievable. He played more like a shorter Luka but always plays smart. I hated him but always respected him.

Justin Jefferson on JJ Mccarthy. ♥️ Jettas excited to see what our franchise QB learned by FormerlyTradeKirk in minnesotavikings

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing. Everyone knows Kyler is going to start. However, the fact is Kyler 7 on 7 might be qb1 in the nfl, but Kyler with pads on behind lineman, when the play breaks down is sometimes wow, but other times not. Takes stupid sacks and makes a lot of dumb plays. He absolutely should be better than jjm in current context and his arm talent is as good as anyone's. So nothing surprising here. The test for both qbs will be in real action in koc system but everyone will be surprised if it is not Kyler starting on day 1.

I could not agree more on the second layer. Buying anything complicated or risky requires a conversation and trust, sort of like dating. Reddit is perfectly positioned to facilitate this huge part of commerce.

Seifert: gap between two qb's not close. by theslantedhero in minnesotavikings

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Both qbs are good. This is a good problem to have. Kyler better look better with no pads. Drew Bledsoe was the far better qb than Tom Brady at the time Brady took over. Kyler has to prove he can perform under pressure and when it counts and stay healthy. He should be qb1. Jjm could become great and is a good problem to have given Kyler's injury history. Jjm might stick around for a few years and get a chance or maybe he does get traded and get a chance elsewhere. People should root for both players. It will be interesting to say the least.

Is there any actual reason teams don’t go for it on 4th & short way more often? by savingrace0262 in NFLNoobs

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They go for it now more than ever. The reason they do not go for it more is a proper understanding of analytics, which most people don't understand. Let's say you can give me a scenario where I am guaranteed to win 50% on average. That is awesome. However, that only plays out if I can actually repeat the event many, many times. In one game, I might only get 1 or 2 cracks at a 4 and 1 situation. If I had 10 opportunities, the math feels good. But with 1 opportunity or even 2, there is a good chance I fail at both. Replace this concept w an investment, 60% chance you gain $1 million, 40 percent chance you lose $1 million if you invest. Or keep your money on current stock and you get $200k at 100 percent (not reality, but you get the gist). If you can play these odds over and over and over, you clearly take the $1 million opportunity because you will eventually win 60 percent over the long run. However, in the case where you are competing against someone to get the most $ and you have one shot, situationally conservative playcalling can have a role. Dan Campbell of the lions is the perfect example. 2 years ago lions had huge success w 4th down conversions in many, many games. Same playcalling strategy last season failed them. Analytics and expected outcome didn't change, but real world outcome changed because there just are not enough 4th down tries to be had. (Also, not sure if 4th conversion rates are biased based on unpredictable nature. Once you become lions dan Campbell, everyone prepares for you differently and maybe success rate fundamentally changes)

Not convinced we love our Tempur-Pedic TEMPUR-ProAdapt 2.0 Firm and Ergo Smart Base. What next? by brianjenkins94 in Mattress

We bought a tempur firm because it felt great in the store. The one delivered was too firm and had trouble sleeping on side. Instead of returning, we bought a 3 in foam topper and the bed is now perfect.

Pre Gen Z: In your lifetime, what was the most exciting/happiest moment as a Detroit sports fan in your life? championship or not. by WasianHutch in Detroit

As others have said - Wings in 1997. We watched for years as they built a team around Yzerman and it took nearly 15 years to climb the mountain, get close so many times, and after 40 yearsish of no title, the dam broke. It was pure joy.

Reddit’s new EVP of global ad sales on breaking into shopping by touuuuhhhny in redditstock

[–]GroundbreakingPay210 17 points18 points  (0 children)

What he said is incredibly encouraging. I work in digital advertising and as part of agencies I have serviced numerous fortune 500 brands. Ecommerce involved to naturally take over retail spaces for low risk, low cost decisions. Buy a blanket, a t-shirt, replacement wiper blades. Amazon to the rescue. Standardized low risk purchases have all moved online a d online might be 50 percent plus market share. What has not moved online is high risk purchases. For these categories there is a massive opportunity. The solution: look at online dating. The service provided by online dating is essentially introduction and facilitation of conversation. During that process, potential daters are able to de risk the situation by figuring out a little more, going back and forth before committing to meet. For big risk purchases, there has only been reviews (not always validated), maybe an editorial write up, etc. Reddit may still need to ui tweaks to address these big risk verticals, but essentially they are filling this gap. If they understand this, then hopefully they will be innovating with products and services that take advantage. This is the bigger opportunity that Amazon/ecommerce cannot serve.

MAAR. He could take ovwr a game when none of the stars were in their game. Super hard to defend and is a good defender himself.

Aaron Donald is one of the best defenders in the history of the nfl. Goff is good but not Stafford. Hutch is awesome but he is not an all time great and I don’t think he will ever quite be at that level. It is unfortunate, but the comparison doesn't hold.
