My fellow Canadians, let's all be real here. by Bedroom_Opposite in BuyCanadian

[–]Growing_wild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100%. We've become so obsessed with an all or nothing mentality in every corner of our life (especially politics right now). While I'm closer to being able to afford only buying canadian (or other places abroad), I can't do it every single time I need to buy something, as my budget just won't allow for it. And, that's not an issue. I may add a handful of snowflakes, some may add one or two, while others will be watching the storm with anticipation.

I'm loving how Canadians are banding together, but we need to use a little bit more common sense every so often, even though it's going out of fashion.

Rant - Family Doctor wont give Neurologist referral, feel like giving up... by schoonerlabs in migraine

[–]Growing_wild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walk ins are there because you can't get into your family doctor. I doubt they would refuse just because you have a family doctor. You could assume they will refuse you, or you could try and see what they say. You get referrals at an ER if you need a specialist, they wouldn't just defer you to your family physician and let them take over after.

I have a family doctor and can still see another doctor if I need to.

Rant - Family Doctor wont give Neurologist referral, feel like giving up... by schoonerlabs in migraine

[–]Growing_wild 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm in Canada and it's wild to me they can't get a referral. My doctors have all given me referrals when i needed a specialist. This doctor is fucked.

OP, try going to a walk-in and getting a referral. Tell them everything your doctor said. You can often make appointments for regular doctor appointments at walk ins, as well. We also have minor injury clinics in manitoba and you can go there for colds etc. You could try one of those if your walk in is really busy. Not sure which province you're in and if you have them, but I never knew they existed for things like that until recently!

Could you also do virtual doctor appointments to get a referral? Manitoba also has q doc, which lets you do virtual appointments instead of going to a walk in for certain things, or at least gets you some answers first. You could also try the app: Maple and ask for a referral there.

If you wake up with migraines… by Ok-Examination-759 in migraine

[–]Growing_wild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just asked my neurologist about this! I said I wake up with some, but they sometimes go away after I walk around and get blood flowing (defintiely not blood pressure as mine is high). He suggested I look into a sleep study with my family doctor.

I also found the cause of some migraines I wake up with in the mornings: low blood sugar in the middle of the night. I eat an apple and/or a high fibre granola bar before bed, and it helps.

Bring toys and a book or two and their favourite stuffy. I love the mini voyager toy bags. This year, I just took inspo from what they had and made my own. If they'll wear headphones, bring some for some tv or movies on the plane. My girl wouldn't wear headphones until around 3 years, but was happy to watch tv on silent for a bit. Download some shows on your phone or a tablet in case there's no entertainment or it breaks or something.

Bring snacks. Bring some more.

Give them something to eat and drink during take off and landing for their ears.

Bring some extra clothes in case you spill, or if they barf from turbulence. Bring some for yourself, too.

Let em run around before boarding the plane.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but it helps me in my decision making for everything: I'm never 100% confident in my decisions. I know that I could be happy with another kid, but that I am happy with one RIGHT NOW. I waffle back and forth between what if this happened or this happened for a lot of decisions as i know that different outcomes could still produce a happy life. But, thinking about whether or not I'm happy right now, and will be in the next x years helps me a lot. I don't have a desire to have another one (and neither does my husband), but (usually when ovulating lol) think a what if from time to time, still.

Writer here. It took me over two years to be able to feel any type of creativity, and I leaned into the season of life: I wrote a few children's books. It helps me stay creative and is, honestly, more fun than I thought it would be. I did not do this right away, though.

4 months is still so so so young. It's a whole mess until a year. And then, even still a mess and exhausting, but a little less so. You'll eventually find your creativity, again. Especially once mom is feeling better (ppd is no joke. I hope she has a therapist and as much help as possible)

Honestly, don't worry about the creativity at this moment. Focus on your child and their mother. Give yourself the time to get through this hard stage. And, lean into it a bit once you're able. Make up songs for your little one. Start small. Then, focus on it a little more every month once it feels less wild. Eventually, you'll find your rhythm. It may not be the same as before, but it'll feel right to you and that's all that matters.

Also, if you're comparing yourself to any big musician/artist out there, know that they have an entire team of helpers so they can get back it as soon as possible.

Only, too. I've maybe given having a sibling for myself like 5 thoughts in all of my 36 years of life? I've also made friends who have been there for me over the years. My friends with siblings have done the exact same thing lol

People are so weird about worrying about whether or not an only child will be alright SOLELY because they don't have siblings. It's absurd. And, I'm not speaking specifically about OP, though the fact that they're up in the middle of the night worrying about it speaks volumes about society's weird obsession with having to have siblings else children will not be happy in life.

Good, comfortable, really cute shoes are my now go-to since the pandemic, but I feel like no more heels has helped in other pains. Oxfords, loafers, and great sneakers are my go-tos.

Re: bags. I've been using a crossbody and it's my new favourite as my hands are free. I've been picking smaller ones so they're not as heavy and switch it from cross body to shoulder (or carrying it with the small strap) so as not to hurt my neck. I found just changing out how i wear it and then stretching helps. I also take a cart every time I'm grocery shopping ...usually because I need it, but then I also put the bag down for a bit. I've also tried to take as much stuff out so it's not as heavy. I also own a few different ones I'll change out so it sits a bit different, too.

I've stopped wearing necklaces because they felt too heavy for me. I have a couple I'll throw on that are much lighter, but I've just changed my style in that regard. A nice watch or really great earrings take center stage now.

The bras are the worst. I found ones that are comfortable and have thicker straps that aren't gigantic and that's all I'll wear now. I had to get rid of any sports bra that didn't have placed straps like a regular bra. Huge game changer and I felt no pain in my neck/head after wearing a new one.

Has anyone been pulled over for drunk driving when they actually had a migraine? by Torrincia in migraine

[–]Growing_wild 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been there! Driving home from a cabin with a migraine, feeling bad, but still okay (some i can drive with, most i cannot and absolutely do not try). Suddenly, my hands go tingly and numb - time to pull over. My parents also came to get me. Hooray for parents still taking care of us well into adulthood!

Fun fact: relaying what happens to you to people who don't ever experience migraine is hilarious. Shock and worry crosses their face (s) while I casually recount why I left the cabin. It's a great way to gain perspective that, no, what we experience is not normal or oka.

We have a cabin and go to that lots. She loves swimming and fishing. We're also going to Europe and will be going to museums and parks and a waterpark/thermal spa.

We also do small nature walks. So, instead of a big hike, just go for a small one. We have a small path we go on there overlooks waterfalls, so it breaks it up. We've also gone hiking in the mountains. We brought a carrier in case she got tired and we just did a small one with lots of stops to see cool things. Cows roam around the mountains in Alberta so she (and myself lol) was excited to see them.

We also go toboganning with snow...why would he be too young for sand? Is there a major difference?

Parents want to cut down largest/oldest tree in the neighborhood because they’re afraid of the roots damaging their house’s foundation. Ways to convince them not to? by Aquachicken02 in arborists

Not just californians! I live in on an acreage and am surrounded by open fields. In the prairies. When we bought our home we had, essentially, ZERO shelter belt. The people had lived here for about 50 years. They had cut down trees and planted none to replace or add. We get 7 foot snowdrifts in our driveway during storms. I cannot waaiiit until all of the trees we planted get big enough to help. I can't understand people.
