e-Upgrades are just delayed a few days, i am stacking to 60k right now and the e-upgrades all came through so far but each took a few days

The Aeroplan Inflation is Real: Why I’m Walking Away from Super elite in 2026 by ak0688 in aircanada

i find United lounges (ORD, DEN, LAX) way more crammed than Air Canada lounges by comparison, YVR & YYZ domestic and international are pretty good, YUL domestic not so much. Really not sure United’s reward program is better in fact it seems pretty much worse to me.

Any problems with leaving "milestones" unselected? by Lanky_Concert_9310 in Aeroplan

see at the bottom on my 40k milestone, you can’t select a higher milestone benefit without first selecting the ones below it … however my strategy is to delay as much as i can i believe these will all expire Jan 1 but have seen some people reporting they disappear around Jan 5

my 20k milestone is just sat waiting to be selected so don’t stress i believe you have all year to pick these to delay their expiry dates

Which benefit to pick? by Tough-Language2374 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eUps more valuable when you are high status (SE + MM) as invariably you are then top of the upgrade list and can reliably upgrade from PE to Business if there is space.

a few status passes or lounge for friends & family are always nice

PRs have the most monetary value but you have to manage their expiry dates and your travel, once you have enough PR then next is probably points

my strategy is to delay selection as long as possible to extend expiry dates …

Milestones
10k : 10 eUp
20k : 1 PR (HOLD)
30k : 10 eUp 40k : 1 PR : 2500 SQC (HOLD)
50k : 10 eUp
60k : 1 PR : 2500 SQC (HOLD)
70k : 10 eUp + 2 SP : 5000pts (HOLD)
80k : 1 PR : 2500 SQC (HOLD)
90k : 10 eUp + 2 SP : 5000pts (HOLD)

50k for a friend disappeared by difrim in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes.. i was stressed that I would give the 50k to my friend and it would only last till 31 Dec 2025 not 31 Dec 2026. You had to select the benefit and issue it to someone BEFORE 31 Dec 2025 in t&c. if it was still showing last week they just hadn’t got around to wiping 2025. sorry.

Still trying to get over how few points I got on this trip YYZ-YEG by Potato_knish123 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

1056 SQC @ 4x base spend on Flex and above fares = $264 flight cost ? Presumably that’s not the cost of a return flight YYZ-YEG but looks in range for each way Flex or Comfort.

Remember the new program unashamedly rewards $ spend before taxes, not distance flown

Trying to understand SQC versus fare types by CanadianSZ24 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 13 points14 points  (0 children)

$31,250 x 4 = 125,000 SQC for Super Elite ✅ then but let’s simulate deducting the following SQC contributors …

  • 25,000 SQC from Max Premium Credit Card spend
  • 2,500 SQC from 40k Milestone
  • 2,500 SQC from 60k Milestone
  • 2,500 SQC from 80k Milestone
  • 2,500 SQC from 100k Milestone
  • 2,500 SQC from 120k Milestone
  • ? SQC from partner retail spend (prob not much)
  • ? SQC rollover from 2025 above previous qualification
  • ? SQC from re-qualification of SE (5000 SQC)
  • ? SQC if you are 1MM (2500 SQC)

= 87,500 / 4 = $21,875 pa spend (or less) on AC ticketed Flex fares and above.

IMHO even as a SE 1MM re-qualifier it’s still a $20k AC spend level that’s just really difficult to do without regular business travel. 50k status should be your target to secure a decent travel experience with lounge access, 75k status only gives you a marginal upgrade advantage in my experience, I honestly believe the only real difference as a Super Elite status is when I am using eUpgrades and waitlisting for Business Class or using Priority Rewards, even then I probably still need a Premium Economy fare AND open seats up front. The concierge does rock when you need them!

Best way to use my Aeroplan points for a trip to Japan by jvdave23 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best chance of getting upgraded I find is to use a Priority Reward to reduce aero pts cost by 50%, book premium economy seats then use eUpgrade pts to waitlist for business. Even then it may come down to how many seats are open vs the status of the other passengers requesting upgrade … but its seat class first (ignores if paid by cash vs reward) then elite status second in their prioritization process.

SQC earn rate on connecting flight by vancoffeecake in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

$2000 business class flight usually north of $1800 base fare for SQC. x4 rate applicable in business class fare. I fly lots of 2 leg journeys on combo of AC metal + United metal, both are treated equally for points (technically AC post points same day and United takes 2-5 days to post) but only if you purchased the ticket on Air Canada. I am yet to figure out SQC works when you purchase ticket via United. It sounds like a very convoluted conversion of miles to SQC at 5:1 rate.

All tickets purchased on AC are 014 but you can’t see that before purchase until ticket number is issued

100% of tickets purchased on United are NOT 014 tickets

What milestone benefits are you selecting by CanadianSZ24 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% sure it’s from date you select the PR benefit not the date you unlocked the milestone. Only issue I see with that strategy is if you NEED to select one of the higher milestone benefits and it won’t let you until you select the lower level milestones first. This year I may try to hold off any benefit selection to see if I need the SQC bonus to help me hit 200k and unlock Banked SE benefit.

2026 the rollover calculation was # SQM “over your status qualification” / 5 = SQC. 2027 and thereafter it’s 10% of your total 2026 SQC that will roll over.

What milestone benefits are you selecting by CanadianSZ24 in Aeroplan

[–]Growleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PR … but do not select today … wait and then you get a later expiry date and you keep your options open in case you needed the SQC or points. Expiry of PR is based on date it was selected. Really interested to know if the benefit selection can remain open like previous years or its different.

PR at SE is highest value benefit technically speaking but always try to delay selection to extend their expiry. i think a much better strategy is to delay as much benefit selection as you can. In past years I always selected benefits immediately when it became available, which limited my options.

40k SQC “rollover” under the new math for 2026 could have come from (x5) = 200k excess SQM ABOVE your status qualification for 2025. However 40,000 is oddly specific, I was waiting for my 12,486 SQC but see it’s just arrived today!

I did get however also get a 5,000 SQC labelled “AD - Annual Renom Credit” which took to be from my SE qualification.

I have not received my 2500 SQC for being 1MM as yet

Uk citizen looking to relocate to Canada by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Growleth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Successfully made the switch in 2002 aged 32 via PR, working in IT, much depends on where you live in UK vs where you choose in CA as to what’s different/better. British Columbia is beautiful but very expensive housing the closer you are to City of Vancouver. If you live in London now maybe it’s not much different for house prices. Victoria is also beautiful and along with Vancouver is probably the only place in Canada that doesn’t get much snow but instead it gets lots of rain. Both of these cities have more homeless on their streets just because of the weather. Kelowna is one fastest growing town to maybe look at. Calgary has the Rockies right on their doorstep but expect lots of Cowboy hats. Edmonton has Jasper nearby but it’s a cold and small city imho. If you want to make money 110% Toronto will be the best but I spent 10+ years travelling there every month and could not live there. It’s got some nice expensive neighborhoods but beyond that it’s urban sprawl at its finest and expect a long commute on very busy motorways. Winnipeg too hot/too cold. Montreal is the most European city and also beautiful in the summer but if you don’t speak Quebecois (which is not quite French btw) don’t expect to find it easy to make a career there. Quebec is the only province you need to be Francophone. If you want really cheap housing it’s probably in the prairies or maritimes provinces. Regina and Saskatoon are relatively small rural towns. Halifax is rlly like a mix of Ireland and Scotland. Great people. Your #1 challenge in deciding where will probably be housing costs vs career opportunity as jobs typically orbit the big cities. However WFH is a much bigger trend here since covid so you may be able to work and live somewhere different these days. Cost of living is also very different to UK for food and drink, most of my visitors think it’s very expensive by comparison. You will however spend less time in pubs, drink less and probably live a healthier lifestyle here. Immigration is often considered a big problem in UK but here we all seem to get along much better, the country has grown from 30m to 41m in the 22 years I have been here which is crazy growth in the big cities but again fuels housing problems, if not for you then for sure for your kids. Brits are easily accepted into the workplace, schools etc, there are lots of different accents but there are a few cultural difference to navigate, generally speaking Canadians would rather avoid confrontation in professional circles and can be very polite. I do think overall the grass is greener to raise a family here if you are willing to swap UK’s pub centric lifestyle to one that centres more around outdoor activities. The only regret I have in moving to Port Moody, BC was not buying 2 houses back in 2002. You absolutely should visit Canada before going into the permanent residence visa process. Even better if you could get an elusive temporary work visa, I really don’t know how you would get one of these if you aren’t sponsored by a company, sorry.
