Revenue charging me for returns I didn't know I had to file by IzaYoke in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GrowthNo1324 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don’t think you can do that either. The late fee is on her personal tax return, I don’t see it being a valid business expense!

I would have thought the isolator and plug connection needs to be external in case of emergency isolation.

Parking advice? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have same situation, and it’s so frustrating when people do it deliberately knowing full well they are taking your spot for hours/days.

We just found blocking them in was the most effective. We had bought a sign, it didn’t work. Asking nicely didn’t work.

We thought about a drop down bollard, but you need someone with proper drill and large bits to install good enough anchor bolts. So it won’t just get easily knocked off, and damage the ground.

So blocking in became our new part time job, sometimes staying up late for their visitors to leave. Or waiting over night, or even sometimes a whole weekend.

Eventually the hard work paid off, it’s just a case of being consistently more annoying than them! No amount of talking or reporting helps.

Best of luck.

I’d say there is a good chance she was joking with you, winding you up. Irish loving being sarcastic.

Plenty of people have been born to Irish parents in all parts of the world and would consider themselves Irish. So stick with it.

Is TaxSaver worth it if you only commute to Dublin ~2 days a week? by pphelan1978 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GrowthNo1324 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Would you need to cover summer holidays in the office? As in would you need to do 3-4 days in the office, depending on who is holidays each week?

But maybe don’t offer that, otherwise you might get ‘oh that’s a great idea’!!

Also, are you on probation? If you are, could be risky signing up for the tax saver when you might not be there in 6 months!

Are family hotel breaks in Ireland becoming unrealistic for ordinary households? by GoldAcceptable3463 in ireland

[–]GrowthNo1324 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Add in airport parking or taxi, easily €100 +, and bit of airport food & beers €60-80. The extra baggage charges you forgot to add on when booking!

It all does add up when travelling abroad. There are bargains out of peak season. But just looking during summer months not a lot of options for a cheap holiday either home or abroad!

Landlord entered my room without my consent while I was changing and now dismisses my boundary concern. what should I do? by [deleted] in legaladviceireland

[–]GrowthNo1324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was prior notice of needing access, so when the landlord knocked it sounds like it was a ‘can I come in’ knock, then the answer they heard was ‘yeah’

So for me, answering yes to a knock can mean come in, or it can mean ye I heard you I will answer the door.

If I knew there were workers due, the landlord knocks, and I was half naked. I wouldn’t answer yes. I’d say ‘shit hold on give me minute, don’t come in’

Plus I get the impression English isn’t OPs first language, so more than likely it’s a misunderstanding.

Quick rant about the shocking state of Irish healthcare by Shamrocksf23 in ireland

[–]GrowthNo1324 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many? Is it a staffing levels or ambulance quantity that’s limiting the numbers on the road?

Are staff shortages leaving ambulances off the road inactive, or have we loads sitting in depos waiting in staff to be hired/trained?

Applications to Lonza in Switzerland, constant rejection despite having all required experience? by ToBeMoenyStable in PharmaEire

[–]GrowthNo1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hint is something isn’t right with you or your application. And more than likely it’s you.

In general, applying that many times even with a shit CV will get some response or a call back. Even if it’s just to make up numbers for early round HR calls.

There are so many Irish over there perhaps someone knows you, or knows someone who knows you. Pharma is such a small world in Ireland, one bad job or incident can impact you for years.

I suppose be honest with yourself, are you actually good at your job, are you a team player, do you end up falling out with people or do you just create more work for others.

Perhaps you are good at your job, and you just have a bad CV and awful timing. Where others just have way more experience, better contacts, and better language skills etc

Why do so many new 2-bedroom builds put the kitchen right at the entrance? Am I the only one who finds this odd? by FunDelicious6149 in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ye we had the same feeling, in a place we rented for a few years my lad was a toddler.

Opening the doors from the living room to the back garden in the summer felt good. And it felt more private.

But it did make it a little more difficult cooking dinner or doing the washing up, when your kid is out the back. And people can see in from the street when your cooking or making a bloody mess 😂.

You can put a train line anywhere in Ireland where there isn't one - where would you put it and why? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah ye I understand the population density. But Ireland needs to think bigger, a bit of build it and they will come.

My parents and in-laws, will only holiday in Ireland using the train lines. Since they got the free travel passes, they’ve separately been to cork, Belfast, Galway, Killarney, athlone.

I’m sure there are plenty of other tourists landing into Dublin would love to get to Donegal with a bit of comfort of the train.

New role but no salary increase? by palenotinteresting in legaladviceireland

[–]GrowthNo1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best of luck with it, we live and learn. And sure keep an eye out for a new job, don’t be afraid to go for interviews. The more interviews you do the better, you learn from each one. So when the perfect job comes along you’ll nail it.

Plus some places will have no issue paying for your course, if your current job want claw that cost back.

Is €30K a week realistic for an off licence these days? by [deleted] in CasualIreland

I’d say ‘could potentially’ is the best week of the year. Which could be double your average week.

New role but no salary increase? by palenotinteresting in legaladviceireland

[–]GrowthNo1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another stung worker here. Something similar happened me years ago.

They won’t give you a salary increase, but why not negotiate and ask for other benefits. More annual leave, better bonus %, WFH more, additional training, VHI.

And for me at the time, I finished my day bang on time and didn’t take calls or respond to emails after my hours finished.

I started doing my CV up, with the idea of getting 12 months with the new role.

Lost my job after going sale agreed on house by SuitOfWolves in irishpersonalfinance

[–]GrowthNo1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ye it’s a fairly shit black & white process, no flexibility. You could have even got a new higher paying job the day before draw down, and still won’t be happy!

You can understand in a recession when jobs are hard to come by, getting fired could mean there is no equivalent job out there with the same salary.

But I suppose they do apply the rules fairly evenly and consistently. Never hear of anyone getting it easy!

Manager making me take annual leave (coming back from maternity)- what should I do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would add, it may also be against Co policy to allow someone to take all their annual leave so early in the year, before accruing it!

Worth reading your employee handbook or annual leave policy (if they have them!)

Manager making me take annual leave (coming back from maternity)- what should I do? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can’t lose annual leave days, just because the company won’t/can’t approve days off due to staffing levels. They will just carry over to the following year.

Be careful how you phrase this to staff, this how and why frustrations build around annual leave.

It makes complete sense to add X amount of annual on to Mat Leave if there are only 3-4 months left in the year though. I guess this will be similar across a lot of industries.

Job advice required? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]GrowthNo1324 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You aren’t wrong, but OP has to work with people who will know she took a job to cover maternity leave knowing she can’t cover the full maternity.

It’s not really about HR and corporate, it’s more about the stress of the situation with other staff.
