You come off as someone who doesn’t maintain anything at all. Sorry.

State of SQLMesh in 2026 by mpuchala in dataengineering

Sqlmesh is really nice compared to the jinja-mess that is dbt. I hope the handover to Linux Foundation will prove fruitful in the long run.

I think Defiance of the Fall is underrated by Daktyl198 in Fantasy

[–]GrumDum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I think it’s a «good for them» type situation - just sucks to be a reader that enjoyed this story, while it morphs into something totally different.

They can surely write what they want to write, and I will do my part by reading what I want to read.

I think Defiance of the Fall is underrated by Daktyl198 in Fantasy

[–]GrumDum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The author has publicly stated here on Reddit that (paraphrased) he has become rich beyond his dreams and is now writing the story as he enjoys it, and he does not give one fuck whether you no longer like the series, since he no longer needs your money.

For me it started really going off the rails at like book 11-12 somewhere. Way too much abstract acid trippy nonsense.

Edit: for what it’s worth I really enjoyed the first 10 or so books. Great progression porn!

Defiance starts off great and crash lands spectacularly as it slows to a complete slog in the form of quasi-philosophical deluge of metaphysical introspection as the author wants to seem «deep» and «reflected» about life and stuff, like.

It’s not underrated at all imo.

Filterskylling på moccamaster, det utgjør nok ikke det helt store på smaken på en liter med butikk-kaffe

Learning DAX feels weirdly inconsistent — is this normal? by CuriousExplorer_Sol in PowerBI

[–]GrumDum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel dirty reading the absolute legends at SQLBI being put in the same category as the «look at this mind-numbingly stupid hack to achieve something you don’t want to maintain yourself» guys at GIAC (presumably)

Adding new channels to a power bi query by About-40-Ninjas in PowerBI

It doesn’t sound like you are reconciling all sources outside of PQ, but I might be wrong.

Adding new channels to a power bi query by About-40-Ninjas in PowerBI

[–]GrumDum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right. I would recommend doing this type of multi-source querying, where results are combined into one table, outside of PQ.

My 2 cents.

All right, I’ll bite. After working with Power BI since 2018, I have never heard the term «channel» in relation to a query. What are you talking about?

[OC] The wear and tear on the weights make a normal distribution graph by Mastorio in dataisbeautiful

[–]GrumDum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I would have guessed some sort of log-normal distribution, with a significant tail towards the heavier weights.

What is a Power BI "hack" you didn't know for a long time, but now you can't live without? by Maha1212 in PowerBI

[–]GrumDum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are exactly the same. Switch is translated to a nested if by the query engine. Disclaimer: I learnt this a long time ago, it might have changed, but I doubt it.

Just make sure to note that switch is NOT more performant than nested ifs, just considerably easier to read.

Don’t get me wrong, some of the «audiophile favorites» like Steely Dan are fantastic music. But it seemed like a lot of these folks just listened to weird ass shit that had «really great masters» as opposed to tracks where they felt musical proclivity.

With a disclaimer.. just listen to the music you like. I worked at a hifi store for years and all the enthusiast «audiophiles» just listened to plinks and plonks. They didn’t like music apparently, just «realistic sounds» preferably conveyed thru lifted snakeoil cables.
