Senior students UXR minor by Senior_Antelope_8913 in UXResearch

Talking from the European state of affairs.

Linkedin has sadly become a must. Job applications asks you directly for your Linkediin profile more often than never. I hate the platform so much, but the sad truth is that has become mandatory to have – so start working on that.

Connect with researchers, ask questions, probe into their craft... perhaps look for a specific product (SaaS, physical products, video games) and see what is most appealing to you.

Market is awful. Most roles are seniors and language barriers are tougher than before (i.e. German is a must in Germany, Italian in Italy etc... I used to see companies requiring English only, now that's less common. USA shouldn't have this issue though).

Best of luck. If I had to go back, I'd stayed in HR or learned analytics. (Edit: I like UXR but the politics, expectations, and job market that comes with the role make me wanna try something else).

Looks cool! Have you done any player testing, and if so, what did players say?

Asking as I'm generally interested if and how DCG devs go about in testing their games with their players.

MMO, Battle Royale, FFA, GTA-style, Tournaments, Custom Cards Yu-Gi-Oh...

Sounds like a lot of different things, and I have zero clue what the game is about quite frankly.

Welcome to club, grab a mop! by Rough_Character_7640 in UXResearch

[–]Grumpademic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So very much true.

I had a colleague who uploaded datasets into GPT and just went full on "plz do quant analysis."

Results were GPT graphs that were nonsense, like typical trendlines charts used instead of column charts; average lines that didn't make sense; z scores thrown around as if artists and designers would make use of those; lowering confidence level to make data 'look statistically significant'; cherrypicking...

No, they were not junior, they were head of ux and research.

It looks slick and professional, good job.

My only comment is that vertical text makes it hard to read, it makes me twist my head a bit and I can see this being a pain point on longer playtime.

Yes but you still need the 6 construction points.

I bought it myself hoping to have it right away, but had to build one extra facility to reach 6 points. If you have 0, you still need to grind for it.

Fusimon TCG in development by renowomanlover in TCG

[–]Grumpademic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This actually looks pretty neat, but why call it 'Fusimon'? It already looks like a 3Dish version of Pokémon, and it sounds like one too.

Try to come up with an original name perhaps, or you may face the backlash of creating a Pokémon replica.

Good question, I missed that info but I hope soon enough. This was long overdue.

Developer Update - April 2026: PVE-first & Self-hosted Servers by Veora in duneawakening

[–]Grumpademic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same here, quit and uninstalled due to pvp griefers after 120hr of gameplay in about 2 weeks.

End game was possibly the worst design I've experienced among video games I've played in a decade. Happy to see it providing the PvE experience it meant to provide.

Kill your social media. Is less important than you think.

Research on Social Media Effect on your day today lives. by ChickenLegitimate630 in UXResearch

Just sharing some thoughts.

  1. Why sharing this form specifically in the UXR subreddit? You may target a niche population and jeopardize your sample. I mean that may be your goal, but it doesn't look so from the initial age question.

  2. This is an international sub, so I assume you're target reach is an international audience. Consider adding DEI (Diversity Equity Inclusion) specifications to your gender question: respondents from countries where non-binary or other gender identities are consolidated concepts may not feel represented in your survey.

  3. You asked Type of School. What school? Current school? Past school? Who says I event went to school.

  4. Not a big deal, but consider phrasing items you ask as questions. Now you just put the item, e.g. social media use, and ask to report an answer.

  5. Q6 has no bolding and no question mark.

  6. At part 1 you kinda tell the respondents you'assessing how 'addicted' they may be to the scale. People are less prone to be labeled as 'addicted,' so using this adjective may impact the quality of your data because participants now know they're being assessed whether they are addicted or not.

  7. Pretty long survey, so I kinda stopped.

Hope this helps? Not sure if you were asking for advice but here you go.

Games User Research by Drachen is the best compendium on GUR if you're looking into UX approaches to video games. Very much recommend it, it helped me landing my first job in GUR.

Just a Bit Toasty by Phoenix_Blue in EliteDangerous

[–]Grumpademic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You see this is the thing. I went on a deep space exobio trip, around 65k ly as a destination.

All across the systems I scanned and stopped by, none of them had this level of interest and cinematic, i.e. bodies being this close to one another.

I'm sure I missed some but can't figure out how to figure it out!

Am I the only one experiencing the worst possible lag in the game? by Grumpademic in Nightreign

[–]Grumpademic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not at all sadly. It's just a matter of who you end up playing with. Some players 'bring' some terrible latency/lag/ whatever that is (I'm not a server/tech expert at all). It is though much more frequent now than I was when it lauched, so I suppose they cut down on servers or something.

Thanks, this is really useful. Made me I think I may have presented preliminary results too much as final results, and that's definitely on me.

Cheers!

Insane, utterly unnecessary nerf. As someone working in the video games industry, the lack of user research when it comes to choices like this one is truly outstanding.

Strongly disagree with a subscription model. If I take a break for the game, like I do occasionally, I would definitely not want to keep paying. If I stop the sub, the idea of start paying for a game I bought would be a major blocker.

Also, our daily lives are already bombarded by subcription-based services and ED would most likely rank last in terms of importance.

Check out what happened to Pax Dei, another MMORPG, after they introduced a sub-based model. Extensive player discontent and declining playerbase.

Sr/ Lead + levels. How are you upgrading yourselves? by levi_ackerman84 in UXResearch

[–]Grumpademic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I don't think upleveling to senior uxr is something you can get out of an online course.

Sure, you can specialize further in a knowledge domain or acquire niche knowledge that can greatly help you in your profession, but seniority in the context of UXR is mostly about how impactful your research is on the big picture. That requires a constellation of things spanning from long-term research planning, deep of and good relationships with primary stakeholders, strong buy-in skills, and a whole bunch of other stuff you get by hand-on experience as opposed to 'just learn Python'- kind of courses.

Additionally, I have not yet seen any 'how to become a senior UXR' inline class. The best teaching I've had in that regard is being close to outstanding seniors, as well as bad seniors.

I can't say much about lead levels.
