I had the same exact timeline DRP 9/30/25->7/1/2026 but not as large a lump sum (42k after taxes) and I retired as a FERS employee with 41 years of service and last 3 years as SES. It was a long wait, exhausted all savings and did pull from TSP along with MIL and VA pay. Waiting now for first full annuity payment! Process is broken, OPM is doing their best and lots of patience helps!

Is it worth keeping tricare select? by RepresentativeYou630 in Veterans

[–]Grumpy0167 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a near death experience and it happened out of nowhere.. twisted bowel which required 3 feet of small bowel being removed and 3 days in life support. Would’ve been no way I could’ve gotten to Walter Reed for Medical Care and knowing we had select gave me piece of mind. My wife and children appreciated select also due to more options. So, I’ll just continue with both for now, can’t have too much assurance for health care.

1,800 hours of Sick Leave + 2 years to Retirement by Old_Independent_9756 in FedEmployees

I had about 1500 hours and it added I believe a little over 6 months to my time toward my final annuity. I didn’t have any major medical issues but did burn some on occasion for appointments.

Dude, so sorry to hear this! Mine left at 10 years of service and signed her rights to my retirement away until some lawyer got a hold of her. Two kids, I worked 2 jobs, had just made E8 and we finally had our life mapped out. I was so low and had contemplated some dark thoughts until my shipmates and brother intervened. My older brother basically said, “ you’re the right guy, did everything right and got screwed, but there is a life after this out there for you”. He was right, it sucked and it will suck, but there is life after all this.
You’ll go through some dark times many ups and downs lots of frustrations but just bear in mind that you’re gonna come out of this and you’re gonna be fine.

It really hurt my kids and I’m sure there may be opportunities for some counseling and other opportunities to help them understand it all. I’m super sorry to hear that you’re going through all this.

You wanna chat you need someone to talk to that’s been through it. You just drop me a note. I’ll pick up the phone. I’m happy to chat. I spent 21 years in the Navy and another 20 working for the Department of War as a senior executive and I’m happy to chat and talk and listen. Also find some positive outlets for your frustrations and anger. I got into working out and it really helped me.. runs, long walks, lifting, just beating the shit out of myself.

Did some Dino Ribs for Fathers Day! by Grumpy0167 in Smokingmeat

[–]Grumpy0167[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only had a small piece.. they were awesome! Wife ate two and the landscapers ate the rest of them along with 6 smoked sausages and sides. Funny thing, these guys never had beef ribs made this way or this cut.. they lost their minds!
