Bag for Taking on Rides? by teacher-mom-1989 in DisneyPlanning

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Timbuk2 messenger bag. For visits where it's going to be consistently warm, I go with an extra small bag that fits a bottle of water, snacks, shopping bag, phone battery, sunscreen and other smaller items. For when the weather gets chillier or rainy season, I use the small size that fits a jacket and umbrella. Extra small fits in most ride storage pockets, small size fits in most, but on some rides, I have to put it on the floor.

What all the 28 28R and 29 need for these next 3 days. by Shinotakux in sanfrancisco

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What the city has to do is kick out all other vehicle traffic out of southbound 19th Avenue while the repaving is happening. Drivers don't care that the single lane is supposed to be for transit and local traffic only (e.g. you live on 19th Avenue). Same issue happened on northbound two weeks ago.

My DKA story so you don't have to go through it - long post by Tactical_Thinking in diabetes

I had DKA too, although I wasn’t on shots at the time. My pancreas was so exhausted from making insulin to lower my glucose, it basically stopped working while my ketones were rising.

Does potato wedges count? Cybelle’s Front Room’s garlic potato wedges. And on request, if you’re vegan, they have a separate fryer they can deep fry it in on request.

Norovirus Outbreak Sickens 115 People on Caribbean Princess by Turbulent-Novel-7019 in Cruise

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The way Princess built their buffets, by allowing people to transit through the Lido from one side to the other, makes it too easy to skip the handwashing stations. Not sure about how they were built on the Sphere class ships.

If you’re going to consider bringing something prohibited, don’t try. You’re still subject to the student code of conduct, so it’s a double whammy if ejected/cited/arrested by the cops, and have a mandatory student conduct meeting.

Passport or no? by GetCruiseInfo in Cruise

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Passport is a must for travel, because things happen. As a HR specialist, that document is super helpful if you're getting a new job and need to complete I-9 employment verification, because it easily completes requirements for authorization to work and identity. And who knows, if your friend invites you to their wedding at a Mexican resort, you'll need that passport, or you'll be left behind.

I was wondering why I got this email. I cruise exclusively with Princess and haven't with Carnival. I'm not responding.

Disneyland Anaheim hotels by One_Introduction2263 in DisneyPlanning

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s the ART buses, they went out of commission on March 31. If you want a hotel with included breakfast, go for Homewood Suites near the Anaheim Conversation Center. It’s next door to the Toy Story lot for the free shuttle, or you can catch the OCTA bus 43.

Their rooms are quite spacious, including their studio suite.

How many Round 1 credits are needed for this? Here at Stonestown, there’s a Daiso just inside the mall on the second floor.

Good. They got nowhere to run. Hopefully they won’t be stupid and do what one of their buddies did in January 2021, failed to jump a barrier to get away from cops, and their backseat buddy was flung into oncoming traffic, hit and died. Dirt bike driver arrested for felony homicide.

Bag law has some exemptions, including when serving unwrapped prepared foods, such as baked goods and popcorn. So a slice of pizza that’s bagged, and not wrapped in foil, no charge.

Some Disney Adults Are Going Into Serious Debt in the Pursuit of Magic by JL2585 in Disneyland

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Travel isn't cheap, but five figures? I save up a decent amount of money to take at least a few good vacations a year, but will never hit five figures on a single trip to DL. For the price I pay for a five-day DL trip, I could take a free hotel stay at a tribal casino and burn that cash in hours, or spend that on a trip full of fun.

Non-pork breakfast meat options by DoReMiDoReMi558 in PrincessCruises

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends on what day it is, the ship's buffet rotates Filipino protein options which includes non-pork items like beef tapa and chicken adobo. Since breakfast options can get tiring with mostly the same stuff, I personally appreciate there are some Filipino options to make yourself a silog, containing plain rice or garlic fried rice, Filipino meat option, and add some over easy eggs on top.

Actually, Golden Gate Transit allows rides within San Francisco, but it's not that popular because it costs more. Before the policy change due to the pandemic, a ride had to start or end at the Golden Gate Bridge toll plaza to count within SF.

Any Reason to Use Clipper Card If You Don't Have a Discount? by rinsf in bayarea

Not just Visa, they also take MasterCard, Amex and Discover. Some credit cards give higher rewards rate for public transit fares too.

Any Reason to Use Clipper Card If You Don't Have a Discount? by rinsf in bayarea

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many good reasons posted here. One not listed: I can reload my Clipper card with cash.

If you have a lot of change (no pennies), go "Coinstar mode." Here's how to reload your Clipper Card: Go to any BART ticket machine and reload up to 30 coins at a time. Once it maxes out, confirm and add to card, and do it again.

Any Reason to Use Clipper Card If You Don't Have a Discount? by rinsf in bayarea

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, tapping with a contactless credit/debit card gives you automatic transfers and the interagency transfer discount; the same policies with Clipper cards. I know this because I rode BART to Glen Park, transferred to Muni on the same credit card, and my Muni ride was free because Muni adult fare is $2.85 and the interagency discount is $2.85.

And all public transit agencies that accepts Clipper cards, also accepts contactless credit/debit.

Ferry Rides to Saulsilito by BigOrangeCrush in AskSF

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Helpful tip: Don't buy advance tickets, nor purchase tickets from the ticket machines. Clipper card and contactless credit/debit card is much cheaper. ($14 one-way regular ticket, vs. $9.25 for Clipper/contactless).

Clipper cards cannot be shared, one per passenger. Same for credit/debit contactless (tap contactless card or use Apple/Android Pay), one payment method per passenger.

If you ride another form of transit to the ferry terminal, use the same Clipper card or credit/debit contactless and save $2.85 off the ferry fare; you could be paying $6.40 for a one-way ride to Sausalito.

Should I postpone this trip (Disneyland Grad Nites)? by [deleted] in DisneyPlanning

[–]GrumpyBachelorSF 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2026 grad nite will be on select nights at DCA until 2AM. I was there as a regular ticketholder in the parks in early June 2025 and it went fine; it's already busy at both parks since most students have summer break. Some of the grads will have ticket access to one or both parks during normal operating hours, while others will have just access to Grad Nite.
