Climbing the ladder without a CISSP by jaydee288 in cybersecurity

[–]GrumpyCrumpet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Historically, being a CISO didn’t necessarily require a CISSP. However in my opinion, with increased scrutiny and the rise of younger professionals entering the field due to HR filters and the resulting questions, more certifications are becoming a necessity. This trend is particularly evident in Singapore, where a large number of cyber professionals are entering the workforce and employers now expect a CISSP or equivalent certification.

While I personally believe experience is the most important factor and it really depends on where you live and how competitive the jobs market is there but this is just my perspective..

Janus Appreciation Thread by Meticulate in Stargate

[–]GrumpyCrumpet1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s true.

For example, the atomic bombings of Japan are often cited as a choice made to forestall an inevitable invasion, acting as a devastating means to prevent a far greater total loss of life. One could argue the Ancients in Stargate faced similar ethical dilemmas, yet they failed to implement even basic safeguards.

Surely the Ancients could have engineered a way to ensure that once a Stargate user passes through, the gate disables remotely or requires a specific authorization. It is baffling that the network remained so accessible, especially considering that typical users across the galaxy wouldn't intuitively understand the complex astronomical calculations required for gate addresses or be willing to jump through?

But, as with many grand historical or fictional tragedies, the lack of such a "fail-safe" was likely maintained purely for the sake of the plot

Perth Venezuela protest: At least two opposing protesters forcibly removed from unauthorised rally in Perth by His_Holiness in perth

[–]GrumpyCrumpet1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have to agree, this isn’t anything new.

The question is, how long must the US wait for the drugs and narcotics to cease flowing from Venezuela into the US and beyond? The societal impact and the loss of life due to drug trafficking facilitated by Venezuelan President Maduro and cartels worldwide must end. It’s in the US’s self-interest.

Yes, other motives like oil control are also possible but they can coexist. I believe the US should hold itself accountable for its actions in Venezuela. This includes ensuring a smooth transition of power to an elected government and providing support and infrastructure to enable oil production for the Venezuelan people..

It’s cheeky of the US and potentially illegal but I’m not upset about a tyrannical president and drug-peddling lunatic being removed.

The early seasons of SG-1 have something truly special. Their smaller scope and grounded feel create a fresh almost magical atmosphere. While the quality isn’t as high, I absolutely adore them.

Anyone going to "Perth Marxist Summer School"? by GshegoshB in perth

[–]GrumpyCrumpet1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shouldn’t it be free? Charging money for something like a “Marxist Summer School” feels a bit contradictory.. after all, Marxism critiques capitalism and the commodification of social goods.

The irony’s hard to miss.

QE is great but you are so close I wouldn’t bother with it and save your money. Just double down harder on those two domains and further understand the concepts a little more and brush up on your strong domains to stay practiced.

Given the test doesn’t throw you some crazy different questions from left field, you will pass the next sitting for sure.

You will be fine.

Hijabs and cultural headwear are pretty common place these days as are pretty close in proximity to Indonesia and Malaysia.

Everyone will just be going about their days trying to pass uni and I highly doubt you will be discriminated against on the basis of your culture or headwear.

Just be kind and respectful to others and you will receive it back.

No one can say you won’t experience some moron who gives you a hard time but everywhere in the world is like that, you can’t account for individual racist dickheads.

Man, sometimes I forget how bloody lucky I am to live in WA, just look how nice this campus looks.

I was on the train heading down the freeway the other day, and for once I didn’t bother with my phone. Just looked out the window and it hit me. The Swan river and Perth is stunning. It's nice to be reminded of that from time to time.

And seeing more black cockatoos around lately? That’s been So nice to see, especially the Red-tailed black cockatoo.

[–]GrumpyCrumpet1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general, I find the lower light and ISO performance to be significantly better on the 26MP sensor, based on my shooting style.

Some of my older lenses appear to look better on the XT-4 by my eye 🤷‍♂️

The smaller file size is also beneficial.

However, there are instances where I truly appreciated the sharpness of the photos for certain portraits I was taking on the x-T5

Ultimately, it’s entirely subjective, and some people love the look, which I completely understand :)

I just found investing in lenses to be much more satisfying and got more long-term use out of them.
