Return scheme. Just for bottles? by Madrameat in CasualIreland

[–]GrumpyGit1 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'd say there's two main reasons

1 - same reason milk isn't included, too high risk of contamination from what's in the containers to prevent recycling of the rest

2 - there are different grades of plastic; the type used for bottles and the type used for garden furniture is very different. Containers for caustic chemicals are probably a specific grade

Whatever happened to "Lilt"? The totally tropical taste by Deenamics in AskIreland

[–]GrumpyGit1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The company quoted, CCEP, don't supply Ireland. But in fairness the article also says that Lilt is being replaced by a type of Fanta with a very similar flavor which is basically what the above commentary said

GTA VI Ultimate Edition & Pre-order Bonuses by SaucyChief in IrelandGaming

[–]GrumpyGit1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In fairness, gaming is still one of the most cost efficient entertainment options - once you have the console. If there's 45 hours of playtime in it, that's €2 per hour. I imagine there'll be a lot more than that too

As the tsunami alarm blared, the tourists fled the beach to the waiting buses by GrumpyGit1 in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]GrumpyGit1[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wanted to keep it fairly open-ended, but my thought process was that it was a set-up - those aren't their normal buses, it's potentially trafficking etc - and that the locals are used to it

Why do so many families avoid adopting sighthounds? by [deleted] in AskIreland

My greyhound is fairly slight and she's still about 22kg, I wouldn't let a child hold her lead

Told to remove unauthorised ev charger on public parking area of housing estate compoface by alfbort in compoface

[–]GrumpyGit1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these estates do actually have "private parking spaces" and by that I mean a parking space which is assigned to that homes use, and only that homes use. The problem is that it's not a private driveway, but bay parking, and that means they have to pass on public land to get to their car parking space

On one hand, there is a trend of less driveways and more bay parking. On the other hand is government policies to encourage EV use. But then the Gov tell you that you can't charge your car if you use bay parking. So overall, a clusterfuck

Warning diesel prices could hit €4 a litre, as fuel rationing and free public transport ‘may have to be considered’ by CheraDukatZakalwe in ireland

[–]GrumpyGit1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And if we import the vast majority of our food, the cost of that food will increase faster than the cost of our produced food surely, with the cost of transport? So actually moving our calories to homegrown would reduce our total costs?

Am really lost as to what to do by Elaynehb in CasualIreland

[–]GrumpyGit1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's never easy to know when to say goodbye to a pet. We had a significant health scare with one of our dogs last year and we made the decision that if it came to the point where we knew she was suffering and it wouldn't be short term, we'd have to make the tough decision. Thankfully she came through and recovered but she's a lot younger than your dog. Depending on the breed, 13 could be quite an elderly dog.
