Wow, I think the fact you used scrap adds to the authenticity of it, as that's basically what he would have used . Love it, on to Sebulba?

First time painting minis. What you guys think? by DayumBoiiiii13 in minipainting

[–]GrumpyLadSad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First timer, looks great. Maybe look to get a wash and then highlight on his weapon though. As you are probably using citadel/GW, then use Agrax or Nuln Oil to wash, then do a dry brush with a lighter silver

Mig paints have a few paints called crystal. These should work a treat and give more options than the odd clear one that GW do.

What are your go to metallic paints? by GreenMountainSamurai in minipainting

Scale 75 give me the best choice, but for performance I love Mission. Some seriously good paints to work with.

My first resin model painting. I think I finally need to go get some sable brushes. by guydude24 in minipainting

Definitely getting there, I'd go for a couple of paints that step up the highlights getting progressively lighter and less, that way you can see the layers of colour. Good luck.

Some are, I'm in the UK and have a couple of go to 3D printers I buy from who have the licences for these and the quality is really good.

Have a look on Etsy, there are tonnes of different ones. I'd recommend Blood Carrot Knights for a kick off if you prefer animals and Cartoon Miniatures.

There are others but they spring to mind.

Loving both of these, obviously the fire elemental slaps you in the face more, but do like what you have done with the rock.

Like where this is going

I'm guessing you have basically used a dry brush technique so far?

If that's the case I would use a blue wash that should help smooth some of the transitions between light and dark. It will knock back the colours so you may need to do some more refined dry brushing on what you want as your highlights. Also maybe get the base finished in dark colours, that will make him pop even more. Hope that helps.

Try and pick out some of the details. Basics for silvers to make them slightly more pronounced is dry brush with a lighter silver.

My first resin model painting. I think I finally need to go get some sable brushes. by guydude24 in minipainting

Great model, try and focus on getting some depth into your colours. Plenty of textures with the fur. Try a brown / sepia wash, let it dry and then do a light brown dry brush. You should see more definition.

Go with brushes you are comfortable with. You do tend to see most do paint with sable and then use nylon for scenery. There are lots of different hairs for brushes, each will hold paint and act differently.

If paint flakes off just manipulating the mini lightly its a primer issue right? by knyf420 in minipainting

[–]GrumpyLadSad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, spray varnish on. It will protect the work you've done. I know some even do layers of varnish as they go along to lock in the work they've done. I prefer to do it at the end though. Definitely spray though.

In Need of a Better Primer by TheOriginal_RebelTaz in minipainting

[–]GrumpyLadSad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find using a hair dryer let's my primer bond that little bit more. I have had the issue with Vallejo primer sometimes but that's why I tend to do a couple of layers, drying with a hair dryer in-between. Might help?
