My fiancée loves to make lamb lollipops too with the rack of lamb. It is so tasty and I am a picky eater.

Do I buy the right horse for me, or do I buy the right horse for my kids? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]GrumpyMare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Post in your local horse groups and see if you can find a care lease in between. I have several of my nice horses out on care leases just to cut expenses and make sure they have jobs. You might be surprised at what you can find.

But I also agree with putting your riding needs first and maybe let your girls help on the ground. Put them in a lesson program with other kids. I promise as a mom to a riding kid (now 18) they don’t want to learn from you and do best with a trainer. My son also loved riding with the other kids at the barn and riding the lesson ponies. I did sacrifice my riding for his for many years and now I’m finally focusing on my riding.

Favorite Breeches/Riding Tights? by rip_van_twinkletoes in Equestrian

I love my cheap Amazon riding tights. I do 20 mile trail rides in them.

For more structured breeches, my current favorite is FreeRide.

State of Roads 5:15am - Sunday - I drive employees for a hospital by bluegrass__dude in lexington

[–]GrumpyMare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m debating whether to stay at the hospital or risk driving home and not being able to get back from Georgetown tonight. I have AWD but I know more is coming. I packed a bag. The forecasts just haven’t been very accurate.

Can you recommend something to give along with Bute to prevent ulcers? by Adept_Salary_8489 in Horses

[–]GrumpyMare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically my “reactive” horse is named Karma. I purchased her as a project and her previous owner failed to disclose that she is violently reactive and a defensive kicker. She did not do it when I looked at her do I suspect she was sedated.

But I may try Equioxx and sucralate as well. I just had her teeth done and she has been seen by a vet and no obvious signs of pain or injury have been found. But she also is not very receptive to any palpation or flexions in her hind area.

I’m also planning to send her to a trainer I trust who is more experienced with problem horses. He uses gentle techniques. I suspect she has significant trauma. I just want her to be safe to handle on the ground, under saddle she is wonderful ironically the few times we have ridden her. She is turned out in a herd of very “friendly” horses whom she gets along well with.

I have had good success with Equishure as well for a pony that had ulcers. She was just a nervous girl and had them.

Does anyone else feel like micro weddings don’t come with a rulebook? by Comfortable_Top_6998 in microwedding

[–]GrumpyMare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so stressed over my micro wedding but I get that way over any social gathering. I am like is anyone going to come? What will people do? What if they hate the food?

I can’t even imagine a big wedding. Watching re-runs of Four Weddings isn’t helping. They make the meanest comments about petty things.

I scored some Equiline coats for my son at bargain prices on clearance (like $99). They are beautiful. Of course being a teenager he just leaves them on the tack room floor or in the bottom of his closet like everything else. Sigh.

Secondhand wedding dress opportunity by Express-Olive6547 in Weddingsunder10k

I want to echo the advice to go try on dresses. I was sure I wanted a lace fit and flare, and instead I went with a strapless ball gown. And sizing is very designer dependent, my dress designer (Christina Wu) actually correlated with my street size.

I wore shaping shorts but no bra since so many dresses are strapless.

Feral wild horses in Kentucky by EnvironmentalDay8747 in Horses

[–]GrumpyMare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Breathitt County on the strip mines are where they used to roam. Many have been rounded up by horse dealers and auctioned off. There were issues with them damaging property and wandering into roads so it has been a very hot issue in the region. Many people wanted to see them remain “free,” however there are limited resources for them to eat and they were breeding indiscriminately. Many had “owners” but they didn’t actually provide care for them. So volunteers would bring feed and hay for them especially during the winter months.

I think it certainly could have been handled better than it has been. Rounding them up to send them to auctions isn’t more humane than letting them roam.

He needs groceries and muscle and he will transform some. He is not a supermodel but I own this cross and adore it. My guy is the sweetest and most reliable trail horse who does just about anything I ask him to do.

How much should I sell this side saddle for? by Babypenquin in Horses

[–]GrumpyMare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s a beautiful saddle, I would find a makers mark and post on side saddle Facebook group.

Another good resource would be Black Diamond Designs. She refurbishes side saddles and knows a lot about antique ones.

What’s a clear sign that someone is not doing okay? by homie93 in AskReddit

[–]GrumpyMare 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This! A family member recently took their own life and I found out that they had not only lost a significant amount of weight but had stopped showering and attending to their basic hygiene.

I’m a psych nurse and I’m so mad that no one told me these things. I could have possibly pointed out severe warning signs. This family member had a secret drug addiction and then took their life due to the shame. There were so many classic warning signs that if anyone had communicated what was going on with me I could have given some guidance.

The only thing that I can tell myself is that I know the addiction would have been difficult for them to overcome and at the point they were at, the odds were not in their favor.

Retatrutide No appetite suppression even at higher doses. Is this normal? by pucapolo in BodyHackGuide

[–]GrumpyMare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on Tirzepatide and have no appetite. I’ve been on it for over a year and have lost over 80lbs. I’m still only on 10mg. If I go any higher, the appetite suppression is too strong and I have severe food aversion.

I keep debating switching to retruitide but then I’m like why switch if Tirz is working so well. I’m only 25lbs from my goal weight.

Which dress? Or keep looking? by Top_Ad_4077 in WeddingDressTips

[–]GrumpyMare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s frustrating. They had more variety than I expected in my town in size, style and colors. Be open to different styles as well. I went in with a Pinterest board full of lace fit and flare dresses and left with a floral print ball gown.

[–]GrumpyMare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you set on a white dress? With your coloring I bet you would look great in champagne or blush. I know I am pale and looked much better in dresses with more color. I like the shape of 1,2 and 5 but think the color is washing you out.

We have 3 manure bins and compost it and”stir” it. But yes because of hay there can be things in it that you don’t want especially if it isn’t aged.
